If you own one and haven't discovered the flaw in the machine yet you better soon before you are looking at a big repair. Pull the lint filter out and look in the opening of the machine with a flashlight... to the right. Look at the build up of lint on the evaporator that's happened in a matter of weeks. You'll likely see 4 big spots of built up lint. If you look you'll find that they line up with the clips on the pull out lint tray. Good news is I've experimented with the clips to try to stop the lint from bypassing the filter and I think I solved it. I've found if you block fronts of the clip you can stop the problem. To test it out for yourself, you'll first have to remove the lint lumps that have already embedded themselves in the evaporator. I used a toothbrush on a stick to tease it out of the coils and pull it out. Don't bend the metal! Now, you can either try drying something again after you clean it out and you will see the lint reappear exactly where it was just after one cycle... or to just cut to the chase you can place strips of the electrical tape over the clips on the lint pull-out trap closing the slits, the top and bottom. Wash and dry your lintiest rug and you will see that NO lint makes it through. I'm going to put flexible silicone caulk in the front of the clips as a permanent fix.. that front opening seems to be the issue.

Great tips! One thing I have found after 15 years of front loader washers, is to leave the front door completely open for a full 24 hours and then in the partially latched position (LG washers) until the next load to prevent mold/mildew build ups.
@nataliegraham9552 Жыл бұрын
I have a front-load Samsung - it's 5 yrs old. Besides leaving the door open, I learned to also remove the slide-out dispenser drawer completely when I'm done doing laundry - I dump out accumulated water and sit it on top of the washer until the next time I wash a load. I was amazed how much water just sits in the drawer after a cycle - bad design of that drawer I guess. I was dealing with awful mold issues inside the compartment as well as on the drawer until I figured that out. I still need to spray the interior drawer compartment with a bleach water solution every so often.
@sammarmon3965 Жыл бұрын
I'm guessing that wouldn't be so critical with this machine as the drying cycle should remove any water that we'd be concerned about with a traditional front load washer.

You can close the door with this one! Any blue material you see on the UltraFast is Microban, which helps prevent mildew and bacteria build up. Also, the dry cycle keep things nice and dry inside, so water will not be sitting around like your typical front load washer!

Nice video but this applies to any washer dryer to clean the lint trap and the water pump filter. I've had one about 3 weeks and it the greatest thing ever. For anyone reading the comments, I just tore the heat pump housing apart to document the lint/ect. 46 screws later, here's the verdict: Lint did in fact get into the condenser just past the foam mesh filter. However, the condenser fins are VERY robust and strong. You definitely want to use a vaccum cleaner to clean the fins out, or use a very, very light brush (if an attachment exists for a vaccum?) that should be enough. Also, there was way more wet lint at the very rear of the housing that got crammed into there via the filter. I'd make sure to try to clean all the way back if you can. Do that, and I think this condenser lasts a long time because the system, IMHO is VERY robust when compared to say, a refrigerator.

I have been using a dryer brush and it gets all the way back there. Picks off the lint really easily. None of my vacuum attachments are long enough to get all the way back there. GE calls out using one of their appliance brushes to do the same thing and I had a few laying around.

@@bensappliancesandjunk I've had a look at the service manual of the Electrolux/AEG 24" heat pump washer dryer available my way across the pond. In my layman view, it looks like an absolute nightmare, with a lot of components squished in, and the heat exchanger is offset on a 45 degree angle at the top of the cabinet. At least the Haier/GE equivalent has a bigger cabinet, as well as extra height to accommodate a beefier heat pump assembly.
@bensappliancesandjunk Жыл бұрын
@@solsburian FWIW I've finished the documentation on the heat pump disassembly (videos to come soon). Took it apart and put it back together with zero issues and no fault codes after a full run, which was harrowing as the documentation from GE was good, but not perfect as you can tell they changed a few things since they wrote the initial documents. IMHO, its the most logically built system you could hope for in a heat pump. 6 screws remove the entire assembly from the cabinet once the control boards are off/ect. 15 screws hold the clamshell of the heat pump on, but once thats removed, its all serviceable. Like you, my biggest worry was that this HPD arrangement would be a nightmare. I've seen how Europeans design theirs, and it frightens me. I can say that this is easily built for servicing. I do not like the added complexity of the system, but its the best arrangement you could hope for I think.

Thanks so much for these helpful videos! We've had this machine since September and have done all the required cleaning and maintenance faithfully, but last night-during the self-clean cycle, no less-it suddenly turned off with 4+ gallons of water in the drum. We got a code 18 and cleaned the drain pump filter, which had a tiny bit of lint inside and nothing more. I powered the washer back on and tried to run the self-clean cycle again, thinking it would empty the water, and got the same result. Once I bailed out the water and cleaned/replaced the drain pump filter again, I then ran a 90-minute timed dry cycle with some wet fabric to dry out the drum. The unit dripped steadily from the front right corner, near the filter access door, for about 45 minutes. Have you ever seen error 18 with nothing in the drain pump filter? The unit is under warranty but I'm hesitant to call a technician if this is actually a simple fix.

As with most heat pump dryers unfortunately the fine lint and fine dust sneak by the mesh/sponge filter building up on the condenser coils. As they build up around the coils after each use the drying process is impaired. 50 loads to clean sponge filter? 5 dries and clean out the mesh filter? A pipe dream.

I started using my old washer and dryer again. Thankfully I kept my old washer and dryer. I'm going to try blocking the clips as you've suggested to help mitigate lint bypassing the filter.

Two concerns: 1) No filter is 100% effective, so how do you go about doing a more in depth cleaning? 2) How can this (top mounted?) compressor handle vibrations due to high spin speeds (something a fridge or AC compressor never has to deal with)?

A regular dryer also needs the filter cleaned every time, most people not realizing drying time increases as fabric softener builds up and restricts air flow unless you clean it regularly. And the vent cleaned on a schedule that depends on knowing how often your vent gets clogged (mine is 24 feet vertical and has to be done twice a year and is next to bedrooms upstairs). All of this maintenance is what I currently have to do on my traditional side by side. I will never have to have my vent cleaned again, though! The only new thing for me is the pump filter cleaning since I’m changing from a top loader that doesn’t have that.
@One-Day-After-Another Жыл бұрын
My setup is similar to yours...I ran across a blog where a lady and her husband posted their issue and their solution... they lived in a condo and got tired of having to clean the vent run...First, they had their vent run cleaned..but then, their idea was to find a gallon nylon paint strainer and sort of line the paint strainer, like a trash bag into the tube that connects the dryer to the wall so any lint that would escape the dryer gets captured by this second filter... About every 4 loads (this is where most people wouldn't be able to do this) get back take it out, vacuum it, put it back. I've done this for YEARS and it's kept my entire vent run clean. Dryer never overheats and clothes dry fast...Thank goodness my dryer is easy for me to get behind and do this and it takes me about 5 mins start to finish. I'm the only one who does laundry so I never forget to do this and it works great...but this wouldn't be for everybody.. I think venting through a roof of the stupidest design!! All dryers should vent straight out the wall

Got one being delivered on Thursday. We have an extremely high potential of Evergy switching our billing to time based billing (meaning higher $ per kWh based on the time of day) we currently run a Maytag set from 2003 that we bought at an estate sale for $300. While I have done my absolute best to maintain these beasts, they are showing their age. Not to mention the strain they are putting on the circuit. It’s just my wife and I and we do get busy with work to where we forget to move our laundry over to the dryer. Also the washing machine builds up gunk every load and it just become a pain to maintain. I have to deep clean it every 6 months. What’s great is, I won’t waste as much water or electricity having to run one load of laundry multiple times for forgetting it’s in there or for the slip ups that my current washer and dryer have. This will also allow me to seal up the dryer vent a lot more since it won’t be in use and that will help in preventing the heat creep coming from my laundry room which will keep the AC from running as much. I paid the $2600 with 0% interest of 30 months at nfm for the GE Profile 2 in 1. I’m excited! The maintenance required for this seems so much more pleasant than what I currently have. One thing to note is that this is an IoT device, IoT devices should be on a separate network from your main network. For compatibility and safety sake. You can still configure your main network to communicate with devices on your IoT network but also configure it so the devices on the IoT network can’t reach out to your main network. I have tested TP link smart home stuff where the root user on the device doesn’t have a password set which is a big no no.

The two build up areas are about the size of a half dollar and are located primarily in the top right and bottom left corners of the coil face. So I guess my question is whether this is normal and if there is a safe way to remove that lint from inside the filter housing (eg. and special vacuum or brush designed to protect the coil fins)?
@bensappliancesandjunk Жыл бұрын
You'd want to use a vacuum with a soft brush attachment. I am unsure what's on the market / available at this time. I have taken apart the heat pump package to inspect the coils for a future video, and I can tell you they are quite rigid, so I think that some abrasion on the front with a vacuum will be fine, assuming it was a soft silicone or plastic.

Anecdotal experience here so take it with a grain of salt. I live in a higher end area with people who have cash to burn. I've noticed people buying this and putting it in master bedroom closets or linen closets. The lack of an exhaust vent makes placing it a little more flexible.
@RedErin Жыл бұрын
I’ll raise my hand and answer. Number one reason is my dryer vent is 24 feet vertical and a professional clean in my area is $425+ (if I can find someone who will go on a steep roof), and my laundry closet design means the dryer has to be pulled out into the hall to access the vent. I really don’t want a dryer fire next to the upstairs bedrooms. No transferring laundry. I’ll never have wet laundry forgotten in the washer. I have physical problems that make lifting wet laundry hard, sometimes impossible. This will ease my life. Also looking forward to putting a load in at night and putting it in the closet in the morning.

The benefit of this unit really is 3 fold; no venting requirement, no extra electrical requirement, this runs on 120v normal amperage circuit, energy efficiency (smallest reason IMO). A machine like this would allow me to put a washer/dryer in my upstairs master walk in closet. It shares the wall with the bathroom so water supply and drain are already in that wall and since there's no additional venting or electrical requirements I could easily add one there.
@spinnymathingy3149 Жыл бұрын
@@Agent22817 hi, could I make a few comments regarding the practically of this unit. firstly if it’s going to an upstairs location (unless there’s a lift) it’ll be unlikely delivery will be available as the weight of this unit is over 300 pounds. Same goes for when it needs to be repaired or stripped down to be internally cleaned (a regular occurrence for condenser dryers) due to its size it’ll require to be taken to the workshop for this situation, you won’t find a washing machine repair guy who will do that for you, not saying he’s lazy, but for the time and effort required, that’s a 2 man job just to move it then a truck with a lifter on the back to load it 🤷🏻♂️that’s just to get it to the workshop, (Keep the cost of this unit in mind) because the option is a separate washer, with a separate (ventless) condenser dryer, the benefits are many, easily moved, far cheaper, you can wash and dry at the same time, when one appliance wears out and needs replacing (most likely the washing machine, ) you only have to purchase that one. Then there’s maintenance and servicing, this machine will be an absolute nightmare to dismantle-repair. Anyhow, sorry for my ramblings, 37 years in the washing machine repair business makes me cringe when I saw this new GE here.

Since this is a heat pump there's no venting out of the machine. If there was a way for them to make one that vented out and dried how they typically do, I think it would be a great product and would eliminate the damp clothes issue. We just bought one of these 2nd hand and I've done 7 loads of laundry so far and I absolutely LOVE this thing!!! @bensappliancesandjunk I was cleaning the inside filter area with a swiffer duster and it came off the wand and fell in that hole to the left side of the filter. Where does that hole lead too? Can that start a fire? It would seem like it would be light enough to blow itself out up against the filter, but it hasn't yet. I have a tech coming out in next few days and I dread when he will need to take the whole thing apart. I wonder if a hose attachment to a vacuum could suck it out of there?

Any help would be appreciated. Definitely going to vacuum now after a total of 80 loads on the new unit (1 year in time). But I fear there may be more lint clung to the walls of the vent cavity to the left of the filter hole that I can't clear out. If anyone has a walkthrough on how to get at that, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Cleaning main plastic mesh filter is pretty much what I have to do with our current gas dryer, so I don't really mind that. However, I can see the black foam filter cleaning becoming annoying after a while, especially the whole "unclip its housing from main filter's housing" part, plus the foam filter will deform and shrink over time and the clipping/unclipping process might also break the black foam filter housing after few months. Plus there might be extra maintenance needed when the mold (mixed with small dust/lint particles which won't be filtered by those coarse filters) will start to form on the evaporator coil part of heat pump. Overall it's probably not something I'd buy, just based on the annoying maintenance processes.

Being able to set a timer and waking up to completed laundry is the best feature. (and taking advantage of lower elec. $$ rates). I would recommend cleaning the filter and chamber after EVERY use. I just saw another video where, after 9 months, the owner got Error Code 353, otherwise known as a critical compressor overheating. The repair man told her she would have to wait SIX WEEKS for parts to come in to repair the machine. I've had my machine for 7 months and hope it lasts years.

I've heard there are cycles going to 30 hours or more, just to dry a load. How's that electrically saving!?! That's absurd in this day & age!!! May as well pin your clothes on an outside line!!! Quicker and it's Free! Even hanging inside and running a tiny space heater is more efficient than a 30 plus hour drying cycle. Unbelievable!!! What a lie being spun about being more environmentally conscious. All this junk ends up in landfills after very short time. Stuff should last forever if we've REALLY improved from years past, since that stuff used to last years and decades. THAT was monetarily smart and environmentally conserving!!! Replacing appliances shouldn't be an every few years thing. All the shipping is bad for the planet too. An id never do maintenance after EVERY cycle, you're not practical!!! Most working people don't have energy or time for that nor should have to. You spend thousands on something it should not require so much more out of you.
@stephendudley22Ай бұрын
I've done all of these steps religiously since purchasing. However, 9/10 loads come out smelling like mildew. Doesn't matter if I remove immediately upon the dryer cycle finishing. They smell horrible!
@rjsmith09 ай бұрын
While its a really great concept, I would avoid this model like the plague! I bought one in September 2023 from Costco and it was amazing to start a load and wake up to dry clothes. I also love the energy saving aspects to reduce costs. Unfortunately 3 months after getting mine, it stopped heating and I am now entering my 4th month of it not working after 4 visits from techs that aren't familiar with the machine (and we live near Atlanta so you wouldn't think that would be an issue), waiting for weeks on backordered parts, and now they are saying I need to have the entire heat pump module replaced. All I get is the runaround and no resolution from anyone. This morning she indicated that it isn't even spinning all the water out and they come out dripping and there isn't a way to run just a spin cycle like you can with other units so we can then move them into our old dryer to dry them like we have been doing for the past 4 months. And yes, we have checked the drain filter isn't clogged, enough clearance, etc as well as have the 4 techs. I regrettably recommend you avoid this model and if I could get a refund I would.

I have a few questions... I have many different vacuums but none of them seem to have an attachment thin enough to fit inside the lint trap housing and I'm not sure I'm comfortable using one so close to the coils but I have a big wad of lint stuck in the very back, any idea how to reach it? I have 4 hairy pets and 3 hairy males so the rubber gasket on the front gets covered in hairs and I can't get them off without spending half an hour I don't have. I've used my vacuums, water and cleaning wipes and a dust towel. Anyone know of a way to clean the hair without it being time consuming? When my load is finished and I open the door the left over water runs out getting the gasket wet and some of the laundry I'm pulling out. Is this normal?
