I think it should be noted that when Rob lucci brings up Gear 2 eating away at his lifespan, it was when Luffy was overusing it. So it could be simply 'dude, abusing this ability is gonna get you killed' at a time where Luffy was pushing himself way beyond what was expected. Though, then again, given that we know Luffy's a Zoan, he probably had less to worry about than we thought, given that they tend to have high stamina. _Probably_

Gear fifth is the whole point of one piece. Oda wants us all to have this romantic, adventurous outlook on life… life in our real world is actually quite absurd. The one piece world is not really any more weird and crazy than ours. We’re just used to the rules and norms of our world. so in our real world, people have all these limitations and they plot and scheme how to simply survive and they worry about everything not working out despite knowing it’s a weird world that makes no sense and we have a short time to be here… often times we don’t do anything because we get too worried it won’t work, but Luffy is the cure for that. he’s the solution: jump in headfirst have fun and go for your biggest stupidest dream. We only have 2 choices in life 1)Die not trying to go for your dreams or 2)die trying to go for your dreams… a small percentage of people will achieve their dream and be legendary in history while many others will die unknown… but Oda wants to say if people don’t give up dreaming then one day another will inherit your dream and finish it for you … the dreams for mankind as One Piece mankind is one Nakama and if your a dreamer you can get onto luffy’s crew… you are a D… you live for dreams and not just to survive till you die a mediocre death… you can die smiling if you have no regrets. So it’s perfect that kaido is Uber serious and dark and does not believe things can be better… and what beats him is ridiculousness incarnate laughing at him because life is an absurd romantic adventure and most people spend their lives pretending they will live forever so long as they don’t stand out… this is especially true in Japanese culture and why Oda has driven a spike into this lack of freedom and tapped into the desires of Japan and all of humanity

I'll try to put in a few words why this is the greatest. Plain and simple it's fitting to what luffy's powers have been from the start, not just attaching something cool new form to what wasn't there already but expanding on what was already there. That's why it is so far my favorite. Outside of that it brought one piece back to oda's earlier writing style of fight humor when things were getting so serious in terms of fights that he couldn't do his older fight humor.

@@jaydenc367 There's no shounen except for hunter x hunter who have had a fitting powerup since gon used the starting system to make basically a death vow to age himself. I would also give world trigger a shoutout but that's not so much powerup made them stronger but changing their strategies and tactics. Technically bobobo as well but since that's moreso a comedy series lets not mention it. Jujutsu has a power system that's simple similar to hunter x hunter so I could see good powerups there too later hopefully. I barely give ssj a pass because does continue building on them not being human but truthfully it has nothing to do with sayain tails or their great ape form and ssj 4 isn't even cannon. Outside of those 3 named the rest always have to use something they weren't using for a powerup.

But it has to do with the Saiyan god legend and Saiyan lore and legend itself, the tail and ape form was never everything, Saiayans were all about being blood thirsty savage warriors and a almighty insanely powerful form of legend fits them perfectly. You sure? Cuz I doubt it tbh.

KCM was at first fitting because kyuubi been with naruto from the start then they screwed it up with ninja jesus six path garbage in the same arc invalidating kcm because kcm was not remotely enough. I don't really care much about something that's a fitting powerup being replaced immediately out of nowhere. SSJ's issue is dragon ball z was already a SEQUEL and you don't learn any of this until you're already past an arc. Only thing that been with goku from the start was his ki, tail, and great ape. I still give SSJ a pass cause at least it's just a ki enhancment aside from the hair change, builds upon being alien, and obviously iconic. However it has nothing to do with a saiyan tail nor great ape.

The juxtaposition of Gear 5 and Super Saiyan was absolutely amazing. The goofy sounds and zany atmosphere was intentional. A lotta people (DBZ fans primarily) we’re scaling it as if it would be just as serious as the Super Saiyan moment. The Super Saiyan moment was derived off a long legend of the now dead Saiyan race. Goku himself had been beaten and backshotted relentlessly by Frieza, and Frieza killed multiple main characters merely out of spite. The transformation was following a very tragic and grim turn in the Namek saga, and it was fittingly a very serious transformation to put an end to basically space Hitler. Luffy himself has always creatively used his fruit. One of his most famous attacks is literally inflating his fist like Tom & Jerry. So Gear 5 being an accentuation of his goofy wacky demeanor really fits. One moment he’s larger than EDP and the next he’s thinner than Kevin Durant, as is the property of his power. Personally, I loved that Oda didn’t try to make Gear 5 a suddenly serious and grim moment. It just doesn’t fit Luffy, nor the Gum Gum fruit, nor One Piece as a whole. 99% of transformations in anime are just “OHHH HE GONNA BEAT YOUR ASS NOW!”, but One Piece transformations (ESPECIALLY LUFFY) don’t fit that formula. Instead of the new form overtaking his personality, it multiplied it. Amped it up to the point of it being his own unique strength. Rather than just changing flying faster and punching harder, he’s altering the environment to take advantage of Kaido’s lack of knowledge of the Gear 5. Comparing Gear 5’s cartoony and ridiculous nature with Super Saiyan’s embodiment of pure unfiltered rage is impossible, but I’m still gonna compare it and say Gear 5 is so much more enjoyable

When the 1st chapter of G5 being used came out I said: "No way... G5 is literally toonforce?" A damn lot of people go harass me for "diminish" G5. And more people got pissed that "looked like that" in next chapters. But the thing is, for me, toonforce is wonderfull. When I was a kid (and to this day) one of my favorite movies and cartoon is The Mask. He's goofyness and freedom is what make me love it. And seeing Luffy become something that fully representant that just like The Mask made me shed tears of joy and hapiness while having a scandalous laugh. Just like Roger, when he finally saw what is in Laugh Tale. Also, great video. A great edit and great script trying to convey your point. Keep the good work.

Wow! What absolutely spectacular editing! I would give anything for a full version of the manga edited like you have it here. A version that would read it to me like Im a child watching the magna on tv. Imagine One Piece in audiobook format with the manga being a video/slide show synced with the audio. Or if audio is too much to ask, at least the automatically playing slide show/video of the manga, that would focus in on individual panels and dialog boxes one or two at a time so it isn't so taxing to make sense of everything on the pages. Id imagine it'd play like you were watching the storyboard of the anime, a slideshow of sorts that would focus in on a single panels at a time, that would transition from panel to panel on its own, each timed appropriately according to the amount of content to be read/taken in from any given panel, zooming in and out, transitioning from panel to character to dialog box to other character to dialog box back to panel again and so on, pausing on more impactful/detailed panels, transitioning through simpler panels and dialog boxes at an appropriately faster pace, timed in a way as to maximize the original comedic timing intended behind the jokes. I imagine video format would be the best way to go about doing this and I would kill for this to come to fruition. Tbh, as much as people hate the anime at times, I can't imagine why something like this doesn't already exist somewhere out there in the Esther, but for the live of all thats holy I cant find anything that even resembles what Im imagining. The closest things Ive seen come to what Im thinking are manga chapter reviews but those are always hevily cut up and lacking in detail. I get that YT wouldnt allow this kind of thing but how has nobody done this somewhere else yet? Fan/DIY projects a kin to this are all that existed on the internet before the golden era of monitizations rigged the algorithm and search results on yt, and any other prominent platform, to only recommend a few relevant search results before shoveling highly curated monitizable content by professional content creators down the publics throat. Hell, I bet if someone was sufficiently skilled with the editing software, they could even take the superb voice acting from the Anime, then splice, dice, and cut in individual lines that sufficiently match the magna dialog. I know it wouldnt be perfect but any of the original Japanese va's delivering significant lines would be awsome, if it was only the major bars like "noth...nothing...happened..." I'm sure there are plenty of lines, laughs, character intricacies, ect... that could be used over and over again, even sometimes in places that dont perfectly match... Even If editing the voice acting from the anime into this version of the story is too much work, it would at least be awsome if the anime ost's/scores were played at appropriate times in the background, increasing and decreasing in sound as the scenes call for. You could maybe even add in ambient noises in the background to fill dead space, like the sound of the ocean slapping the boat, wind in air, or big impacts/explosion/sword cutting sounds, fist whacking sounds, ect... I can imagine a very minimalist way about doing the sound boarding that would still enhance the story a 100x fold, like only playing one of the many appropriate ost's in the background according to the mood of the section. I would love to be the one to undertake such a creative endeavor, however, I cant even figure out what software you people use to edit something like this video, or where you people access and download all of the images and stock footage you use in videos.

SSJ is THE iconic anime transformation, but Gear 5 has found a place in my heart as my favourite form in any anime. Dont get me wrong, animated Gear 5 DID live up to the hype it needed, but it didnt really blow up like animated Ultra Instinct did cus the real shit was just getting started. UI Sign got the the same treatment Gear 5 got till MASTERED Ultra Instinct came into the mix. THAT was the peak for the DBS anime at the time. Give Gear 5 a couple episodes. The peak will come when it's ready.

I mean, Gear 5 is cool but like, the greatest transformation since SS1? No way. Super Saiyan carries a lot of narrative significance, and importance to not just DB but the entirety of manga/anime, and even the general populous. Like, the only thing that I can think of that's more recognizable/iconic off the top of my head is Pikachu or Poke Balls. Again, Gear 5 is really cool, but I really can't see how it's the greatest transformation since Super Saiyan. Like, let's get it over Ultra Instinct first, people. (Plus, Gear 5 is literally a retcon, but yall ain't ready for that conversation.)

it's great because narratively good and it's perfect with mc, it's build up pretty well unlike other series who usually just power up and become strong but lack of narrative. is gear 5 retcon? yes, it's retcon since early post time-skip. but is retcon always bad? no, if you are writer, retcon is unavoidable, and it's not always bad.
