This is a testament to how much of an expert Herman Li is at his craft- he chose to explain everything in detail instead of dumbing it down. A lot of musicians don't know how half of their equipment actually works like he does.

EZ Assegai and I bet you shred perfectly live in front of a sold out crowd, even John Petrucci misses a note from time to time they just want to release the music they love to write and not be limited to easier playing just to make playing live more simple no one is perfect 100% of the time

Its his demeanor towards his skill that dumbed his status. If you watch his early materials, demos, and interviews the band including himself was hyped too much it cant compete with their actual skill at the time and they play drunk af during live performances so pretty much they suck.
@DeathBringer7695 жыл бұрын
@@jonjoni5282 I saw them live awhile back, and maybe they just took it easy on the drinking that night, but they were actually playing cleaner than I thought they'd be judging from watching their previous instructional/live videos which were sloppier, and I've played metal and "shred" type guitar for almost 20 years at this point. There's some ancient videos from around 10 years ago on my channel of my skinny ass playing a Dean RC7G Xenocide, Rusty Cooley's signature. I'm not claiming I'm the best shredder but I'm not the worst :) Also the drummer can totally back up consistently what they recorded on their albums. He was probably the most impressive guy to see live among the band, to be honest. So I wouldn't say the entire band was all overhyped and can't compete with their actual skill. The drummer most certainly can, and like I said, Sam and Herman even surprised me that night a bit. The drummer I've rarely hear have a problem though, not only when I saw them, but across any live video of theirs as well, even in videos where Sam or Herman are flubbing it a bit or goofing around too much, the drummer seems to almost never falter. He's the band's rock solid foundation even when the other guys haven't always been so great. Hell, when I saw them live it was the keyboardist who screwed up and goofed around the most, pounding beers on stage and flubbing parts, lol.

The guitar is custom made with a grip for herman's hands because of how often he grabs that part of the guitar while playing. He puts it on almost all of his guitars, along with a cutout near the higher frets that allows playing the 20th through 24th a lot easier during solos.

Good god, FINALLY a keyboard rig rundown!! I love guitar rigs, don't get me wrong, but they're becoming less and less interesting... Most guitarists use gear that seems to be in a pool of 'essential' professional gear...and beyond that, whether it's common gear or not, it's pretty easily to understand how they're used. Universal, almost... but keys are so interesting! The hardware/software, sound design, patches, and how they use them in performance! It's always insightful to see how a player may store, recall, and switch their patches live.

what I really want to know is how Herman got his hair back. It is back to looking great these days, but was looking really rough during the period that this video was shot. It was to the point where he would have had to give up on it. I guess that a transplant is the most obvious answer to the question. But I don't recall a period where he was wearing a hat or anything..as transplants take many months to 'kick in'. Plus, when the person getting the transplant has long hair, the new hairs are going to be much shorter after they enter the growth phase and start to grow in. Some of you might think that this is a weird question, but I am very interested in these things. Hair transplants fascinate me.
