Cheers Kev! I mean we are all dreaming of multi purpose items I guess and the pillow is close to perfect as it gets for me personally! Highly water resistant (has even a waterproof zipper), light, warm and comfy 😉👍

Your also Stripy sock guy ! 😁 Ye you definitely can't scrimp on winter camps. Was up Dollar Law on Friday night and went out the tent at 6 to get some Aurora shots and my boots were frozen solid! Took like 3 mins to get them on and my feet were frozen after being outside for 30 mins. Had 2 hand warmers with me so put one in each boot a few hours before putting them on and definitely helped. Even used my ice axe to dig/scrape what was left in a grit bin to pit down on the road down into the Megget Resivoir car park so i could get my van back oit as it slid down into it the day before. 😖😀

Hahaha! Oh yeah I know the feeling of the frozen boots, when it is completely bad and I know I don’t move for a while I try to make both of my Nalgene warm to put them in/when it is only bad I use the hand warmers as well 😂 Your trip sounded like quite an adventure 😂💪👍

I think you need a vapor barrier in your boots to keep them dry so they dont freeze at night

@@bonpecheur4565 in an ‘extreme’ like a plastic bag? Imagine it like walking in your own juices 😂😂😂. Probably taking them with you in the sleeping bag would be an option but I wouldn’t like to do that either - did this for a we while with the soles that they are dry, made it better but not good enough that I continued it 😅 Edit: I do believe so that I saw this in a TV show back in Canada with the plastic bags which was like ‘living in the north’ where people were documented in the artic circle. Was a little bit trashy but still interesting

@@StripeyHatGuy you put the plastic liner between 2 pair of socks . So you got only the inner sock a little damp ( you feel it less with merino wool) and you put it in the sleeping bag at night to bring them dry again for the next day . Thats what I do here or I am not able to put my boots on the next morning

Its always great to see what gear people use for winter for me its all about being warm so weight takes a back seat.i was out in the lakes in the snow last week and was toasty but yes it weighs 15kg but that's with more food than normal and a litre of water.i dont think you can scrimp on gear in winter
@StripeyHatGuy
@StripeyHatGuy Жыл бұрын
I see it the same way by the end of the day you need to be warm to enjoy it - no need to safe here or there a few grams. I think the art is to pack not the fear but there is no difference with that between summer and winter imho

Lovely to see a nice concise load out there buddy. Two questions though, the camera gear at the end, the pole that you held up, I’m assuming it is some sort of tripod..? What was it..?😂 and secondly… your cone… how long until you do your Kickstarter..? Will you do a video letting us know it’s coming up..? I don’t want to miss it.
@StripeyHatGuy
@StripeyHatGuy 9 ай бұрын
Thank you very much! The tripod I am using is an Aoka carbon fibre tripod, the stick is just the extension part. Regarding the cone I will soon post an update - only a couple video clips are missing 😎👍

Awww man! That looks like it is the exact thing that I’ve been looking for for a long long time… I was going to ask if you’ve tried any of the attachments that clip on to your walking poles, but, as you use them for your tent poles, they may not always work out for you… but that extension pole with my platypod tripod could work really well. Thanks for getting back to me matey 👍🏻🍻

Thanks a lot Robert! Guess I can only repeat myself - make a list of things you take and tick all of the items you used on the trip - next time pack only the items you used the last trip (obviously considering the conditions). It will take some time and everyone needs different things for being comfortable outside but I am sure this way you can lighten you backpack a lot without spending any money 💪👍 Cheers Stripey

Nice sleeping system . I imagine that the -17 rating of your bag must be the extreme limit , wich you wont probably encounter in Scotland , or is it possible ? I usually carry my -40 bag for comfort , cause I am a very cold sleeper 🥶 . Its true that -15 to -20 are quite common around here in the heart of winter . I am very impressed by how minimalistic you are with your gear . I alway's need my pulka for 2 or 3 days outdoor 😬 . Thanks for the video Sylvain
@StripeyHatGuy
@StripeyHatGuy Жыл бұрын
Thanks Sylvain! According to the website they are talking about comfort rating but I think that is not applicable for me tbh. I mean I wasn’t cold so far in the bag but it was nowhere near those claimed temperatures and I will probably never encounter them in Scotland 😉. Not sure if I am a cold sleeper but I always laugh at other people who claim that the xlite is good down to -5C. I get cold on it at 0C. I don’t consider my setup minimalistic, just according my conditions - would probably pull a pulka in you part of the world as well 😉🙌

@StripeyHatGuy

Jesso, did you write during watching? The blue plastic things were just in the pillow. I use them for going out during night, but usually I use them only in my trail runners as my winter boots are waterproof. Thanks a lot! ATB Stripey

Do you still prefer a feathered sleeping bag instead of synthetic in the wet scottish climate?

Hi What was the pot and cook system you used?
@StripeyHatGuy
@StripeyHatGuy Жыл бұрын
Hi the pot I am using is toaks 700ml, the alcohol cone is a self built one (more info in my community posts/patreon) and the stove is also self built - made a video something like ‘ultralight and cheap DIY alcohol stove. Will hopefully be soon able to give an update on the alcohol cone 😉🤞👍 Edit: In my Gear video 2023 for 3 Seasons I show the cooking set up completely!

Not for a tour in the given conditions (clear sky, less than 5% chance of snow, temp. -2C - -8C). If weather would be uncertain I have a 3 layer gore-tex jacket with me but than I don’t need the thick winter jacket
