What's the best thing you've bought for your video business this year?
@ZacharyWillFilmsКүн бұрын
Probably one of those Sabrent 2 SATA ports. Now I can buy internal drives rather than external ones for backup. I have an entire draw full of externals and never thought about how much space they take up after 8 years in. Also got a new case for my lights that's kept me more organized om shoots.

The 50mm F1.4 S Pro Lens I think. And a second good Tripod

Tiny as it may sound, I got the Osmo Mobile 6. Waiting to upgrade my systems next, I do need to get a second or better cam, still on the Lumix S1 and waiting for a good used deal on the S5IIX. And probably the 14 inch M4 Pro MacBook Pro (or Mac mini) instead of my current M1 MacBook Air

The tool box is really inspired. I’ve got a standing desk with so much underutilized space beneath. After replacing my gaming PC laptop for an M4 Mac Mini a week ago (and adding a thunderbolt enclosure with NVME SSD) I finally understand the joys of working off of faster connections. Life changing. Your RAID system could be next.

Instead of buying a local enclosure, I did a similar thing but with a Synology NAS. Greatest business decision ever. I have 48tb of archival space, a remote backup, access to my files from everywhere, local SSD's with active projects synced to both office and home computer + the NAS, the ability to share files with clients without having to pay for storage subscriptions, etc.. oh my God, literally my favorite thing!
@JoshCameronКүн бұрын
That sounds ideal! I've tried to get on board with the NAS thing but my small brain found the setup too complicated, and realistically the need to access all of my data on the go has never really been there. Synology are definitely leading the game with this workflow though, and their products would be the first place I looked if I did need a NAS in the future :)

Great video. Buying cameras is over mentioned. But buying office equipment or lights can be so much more important. Great tip on that tool chest.
@JoshCameronКүн бұрын
Thank you! Appreciate you watching :) I love the tool chest, defo worth it and it’s not that expensive to transform into a proper storage solution for your gear :)

Mean video bro, always love seeing a bit of Studio BTS type content and all these "less exciting" gear is soooo important. For me this year, I would say the best thing I purchased is a simple box, yeah boring right BUT it actually saves me so much time - on multi day shoots I always need to pack a lot of chargers for the different kinds of batteries I use (NPF, Lumix cam batteries, Vmounts, Follow Focus batteries, DJI Ronin, wireless headsets, mic's... and the list goes on) - Instead of always plugging all those into separate sockets when needed, I have built my portable power station with all the chargers and cables inside of that box. It has a side door, I just plug it in and the whole power station is ready to go in seconds. Bit of a boring one.. just a box - but man its such a time saver for location shoots and I wish I made it sooner!

oh I feel shamed... When you talked about piles of drives I looked at my desk, and again when you talked about cameras and lenses on the desk I looked at my desk again... A great video and definitely all things worthy of investment.

I’m glad I’m not the only one! These solutions are great though, it’s made everything so much easier :)

Joshy - great vid - I'm sure I've asked you this multiple before but where is the desk from?!
@JoshCameronКүн бұрын
Thanks mate! Hahaha the desk is actually a kitchen counter top from IKEA, transformed into an ultra long desk with my imagination 🤣

Going to order the same Mac Mini once my monitor is back from repair - should be a nice bump from M2 MacBook Air. Do you have any UK affiliate links I can use so you get a kick back? Great vid as always 🔥
@JoshCameronКүн бұрын
Awesome! I think you’ll like it, I much prefer working with a designated desktop machine as opposed to adapting a laptop for that kinda thing. Unfortunately no affiliate links as they don’t sell it on Amazon! Appreciate you though for asking:)

What keyboard do you have? I see the integrated volume knob and it looks nice. Thanks!
@JoshCameronКүн бұрын
It’s the Logitech Craft keyboard :) the Control Wheel can be programmed to do multiple things, like change tabs, volume, adjust settings in Lightroom etc :)

How do you connect this monitor to your camera please

What a great video! Youre so right, i always spend money on "fun" stuff and then bsve an SSD graveyard on my desk 🫠 am also very envious of how efficient your A roll setup is!

Hey Josh, just wondering what what monitor are you using with the Mac mini?

1:32 You are not "fully backed up if one drive fails", you are 1 drive fault tolerant. You can recover your data IF during the rebuild, you are not losing another drive.

RAID IS NOT A BACKUP: The 3-2-1 Backup Rule 1. 3 Copies of Your Data: • Keep the original data and at least two backups. 2. 2 Different Storage Mediums: • Store backups on at least two different types of media (e.g., external drives, cloud storage). 3. 1 Offsite Copy: • Ensure at least one backup is stored offsite (e.g., cloud storage or a secure location). Love your channel but what you said isn't technically correct. As Raid is never a backup. Don't rely on it.
@JoshCameron18 сағат бұрын
Hey! Thanks for your input, I'm still learning about these methods of storage so forgive me if my phrasing isn't 100% accurate. All I know is that one hard drive can fail within my enclosure and the data can be restored, but if multiple fail simultaneously then I'm screwed... I use DropBox Enterprise too with a few TB's of storage so I also have a lot of my data in the cloud, and I still do use other external drives to archive media that doesn't need to be accessed that often :)

@@JoshCameron Great to see you respond on my comment. Your setup actually sounds really good now, with offline backups and online backups. Its just that i've seen people mistake backup and raid in the past and got ******* to say the least. Just wanted to mention it. Again great, underrated channel. Just wanted share my knowledge so we can all learn💪
