Dive Rite is a top notch organization as is Divers Ready. I have been using dive Rite kits since 2015 and personally own 5 BP/W setups and a plethora of regs & odds & ends. Nothing flashy, only what you need.

James, I love your Videos, you do them short and simple. 99.9% I agree and fully support your statements. Not spitting in the mask. I do spit in my mask in over 25 years of diving. I will never buy such defog solution. I clean my mask frequently. (2 - 3 times a Year) and never had anything growing inside. I love your videos, keep ongoing please Regards from Switzerland.

Spitting just works the best. I am a Microbiologist and there are various reasons why this will not be an issue. Probably the most obvious... What will the microorganisms grow on? What will their source of sustenance be? Sometimes fungi will grow, but that is not from your mouth... If it is, go see a doctor!!!
@leemoore81544 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I spit in my mask, although I wouldn't then rinse it in the bucket on a dive boat. I've never had a problem either reaching over the side or waiting until I'm in the water to rinse it. There are plenty of things growing in the water, and I don't worry about the microorganisms from the water setting up camp in my mask, so why worry about my spit?

James, never thought soap and water would work so well. After watching your tip on cleaning your mask I finally really cleaned mine. What I thought was age and sunlight causing the silicon to look foggy was just grease and dirt build up. Now it looks like a new mask!! Thx

Human Bi Degradable Spit Is the only way to go, protect a Reef. I also never use the Boats Mask Rinse. I dip in the ocean or clear it once I jump in. NOW......I agree with James, it can get nasty if you do not clean. Which is why I clean my mask every Sunday night. Bacteria is Gone.... All better.

James! Great video as always and I have to admit they help keep me going during these dark dark very hard to dive times that the COVID crisis has blessed us with. With water temps plunging to the 10 degree mark, the diving season is coming to an end here in Germany (at least with my 7mm wetsuit) and as a fairly new diver do you have any tips for what to do during the off season? A dry suit is still too big of an investment for me (I just finished getting kited out for warmer waters) so I'll probably be confined to pool diving for the next six months. Beyond practicing my buoyancy in a local pool what does northern hemisphere diver do when the water gets to cold to dive?
@JamesThomas-hd4me4 жыл бұрын
Dive Rite masks are great! My only criticism is that they are very hard to prep when you first buy them. I used toothpaste several times and Dawn dishwashing liquid...didn’t work. I used soft scrub a few times and that eventually did the trick but it was a bear.

Don't spit in your mask, use a commercial defog - maybe, but when the defog immediately fails while you're in the sea, you've no other option. Never met a defog that works, be it spit or commercial. I just partially flood my mask and use the water to clear it from time to time.
@undisclosedperson38714 жыл бұрын
I’ve never had spit work, but had a few commercial defogs work wellFor the one I use (which I’m fairly sure is just baby shampoo) you’re meant to apply and let it set ( not rinse it out) and I have never had a fog issue.
@jamesbuckle60774 жыл бұрын
@@undisclosedperson3871 I've tried application a week before, the same day, you name it. I do dive in water that's 12C which obviously means the lens is a lot colder than any water on my face and nothing seems to help. I wonder what ice divers use.

Hi Triton's Realm, yes! Keep the mask in the box again for protection and store out of direct sunlight and preferably at room temperature... i.e. not in a hot garage. Thanks for watching!

Hello James I have a question , do we need any special training to use long hose regulator configuration in our recreational dive ? Thank you
@shuntao34754 жыл бұрын
Not really, if you spend the time practicing on your own. I was on a boat with a young lady in July and she was on Doubles and long hose for the first time. After the first Dip, she started asking questions, and was in great shape after the second dip. Put all your gear on, and walk around the house for 5-15 minutes. Donate Primary to the Dog, and put second into your mouth. Rinse and Repeat. That said, the Intro to Tech Course is short sweet and covers this... Though I teach it in all my OW. AOW, Rescue and Master Courses as well, their are lots of other instructor that do this too, and I am sure you could get some value added from them.

Informative videos. But then you go and tell your audience (8.45) that you spearfish on scuba. I honestly do not know how any truly ocean loving diver could swim up to fish or any other marine animal and unleash a spear into it. Shameful.
