I custom ordered my 2005 GMC sierra 1500 hd through our local dealership. I opted for the 4.10 ratio rear gears and a 1 inch lift and some other performance components from higher grade heavy duty models. I was once towing a load over the capacity the truck has by two thousand pounds and the truck took it no problem.
@squealthewheels30904 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty for sure GM underrated the trucks in our years and models. I've only been close to Max load once that was with a 373s. Me and the truck is much happier with 410.

Mine is 2500 HD. Not use it for towing it all. But need to improve the performance in town and highway. Need to lower the RPM and fuel consumption. Will this works?
@themichaelholdren2 жыл бұрын
Dude, I have a 4x4 1500HD also (2003) and am doing the same swap to a 2500HD rear axle (I also have a 3500 rear axle, but will save that for another project). You're looking at the wrong towing capacity in your manual: you need to be looking at the 4wd ratings, not the 2wd ratings. The 4x4 trucks have more weight on the truck (on the front), so the CGVWR is lower. Also, you're ignoring the frame different between the 1500HD and the 2500HD trucks. The 2500HD is taller and stronger from the rear axle to the bumper. This makes a difference in towing capacity as well. You're not going to see 2500HD towing capability just by swapping the rear axle.

My exact model is not in the manual?I tried to match it up the best, wanted to show how the numbers change with the gear ratio.Im thinking the 1500hd frames are the same as 2500 none hd.l was prark next to one and they both have the neck down back half frame thing.my truck has lots of payload for my set up any way just wanted 4.10 for the hills.

@@squealthewheels3090 Yeah man, the 1500HD is identical to the 2500 non-HD. In the manual (2003 GMC Sierra, page 4-78) it's called the "K-2500 LD (4WD)" model.

Alot of work on a 4x4 going 3.73 - 4.10 with the tq and power engines in last 20 yrs produce gearing isnt really a issue with towing and racing these days Smaller tires would do the same but now look at my 03' F-350 psd has 3.73s with big 38''x13.5'' on 16s im at the limit for running tall 3.73s but if i did gear swap id go to 4.56 even though 4.30 would bring gearing back close to factory calibration and on my 99' ls1 6 speed camaro i ran several different gears on the track from 3.20 3,42 3.73 4.10 only difference was fuel economy, shifted slightly diff rpms and only gained 1/10th of a sec on my quarter mile times overall

If the truck is stock start with,intake headers exhaust or handheld computer tuner. Once you go past that you reach a point of diminishing returns. You'll have to put bigger injectors once you start making more horsepower than factory settings.

My son and I pulled the 373 out and put a 410 in rear and front just like you did on a 1500 Hd 6.0 liter . Ring gear was 9.5 “ . We installed front and rear 10.5” ring gear 410 FF . Performance improved but we are going to replace the Transfer case . Did you run into any issue with that?im wondering if we should install a different model transfer.

My truck is 1500hd to, we have the 246 transfer case I believe 4 button clutch pack Style. Mine has transfer case pump rub, it still works good. squeal the wheels yes have the 246 and that’s exactly what we had to have cut off at a drive shaft shop . The TC was having issues before the mod. It does pull better, you won't notice a difference around town until you put trailer on. going uphill and especially down hill is were you will understand the difference. Assuming you have the gas engine?
@alb123456724 жыл бұрын
I have an older explorer with the 4.0 OHV and stock 4.10s. I can say 4.10s maximize torque and off the line acceleration. Even though it it is only a 160hp v6 (but relatively high torque) it really pulls. Downside is it is going to rev high past 60Mph and waste gas. The engine must make 4.10 revs to spin the tires one time. About 10% more than the 3.73. It will not like to go fast, because you are going to rev out of the power curve.
@squealthewheels30904 жыл бұрын
Yeah sounds about what I've seen myself.I go a little slower on freeway to keep under 2200 rpm =around 70 mph.

@@squealthewheels3090 On the other hand I have a Grand Marquis Geared with 2.73's :lol:. If you go over 2000RPM on the highway you are likely driving recklessly :lol:. It can get high 20s MPG on flat roads because the engine is doing no work. That can contribute to longevity as well. However though, it Seems like it "works" hard to accelerate. Not that it its not powerful, but like turning a bolt with a small breaker bar. On the explorer I think I'm over 2500 at 70. It only has 16" tires (some came with 15"). As you can imagine not much passing power....

@squealthewheels30904 жыл бұрын
Gear ratios don't give horsepower,4.10 reduces The Strain on the drivetrain allowing higher payload numbers.4.10 accelerate faster 0-60 mph vs 3.73. If you like to go fast on the freeway 308 323 373s.now with 4.10s i keep under 70mph 2100rpm on freeway,373 would do 80-85mph 2000-2200rpm

I heard 4.10 gears are good if your going to turbo your truck/car. Am I right or wrong
@squealthewheels30904 жыл бұрын
Tire size and how many gears in transmission is going to play a big effect on what gear ratio is going to be best. Single or twin turbo matters as well. If it's not spooling up fast put a lower gear. If it's blowing the tires lose off the line put a taller gear.
