My go to coffee maker is the Aero Press. You do need to boil water but it is a clean and tidying way to make a good cup of coffee

We use a 1.5 gallon pumper pot like convenience stores have for coffee. Every time we have the stove out for cooking, we boil water and add it to the pumper pot. This gives us on demand hot water for washing up dishes, ourselves, and for making tea for my very British husband, and pour-over coffee for me. We've never seen anyone else with a pumper pot, but we'd hate to live without it.

We used to have one, and it was an excellent thermos! My daughter would not tolerate formula that was less than piping hot, even as a newborn. Her first tent-camping trip was at 4 months old, and we made a hotpot-full of hot water before bed, so I could easily make her bottle for that middle-of-the-night feeding. Sadly, it had a glass liner and eventually broke.

Boil water on stove/Aeropress/a milk frother(plugin) that does hot/cold QUICKLY. The *bonus* of heating water on stove is I have 3qt Stanley Camp Crock to pour boiling water into. With this setup, I make my coffee & oatmeal in morn. Wash my face. Hike/bike all day. Come back & take a shower (Geyser Portable Shower)all with same water. The hot water lasts about 3 days with showers, etc. I’m in a Subaru Crosstrek full time. Space limitations &multi use products are vital. My "best life@60" means great sleep, great showers& being outdoors. I use Exped pad for sleeping. I have Goal Zero 1500& ARB fridge. Thule storage on top. Attached to passenger side is ARB Awning & in a rack on back is ARB Awning room. The awning room CHANGED my life! I can stand up in private to dress in morning!! It’s a pain, but so worth it. This took 4 years to put together, get rid of the spouse & the house. Trade offs are important & I have no problem going potty in a yogurt cup😂Enjoy your journey & prioritize what’s important to you. Things that scare you won’t be as scary. Things that you never thought about will happen. You will have more friendships than ever & the ability to move "house" when you need peace. Take Care

Bigger is for fridge & I also have a separate cheaper freezer now. Can go 7-10 days with both fridge’s charging without solar. I do stay about every 15-20 days at CG with power. I hit up Costco & I cook tons of food/freeze, clean & organize, do laundry at CG. Works well. Out since 2018 all over West. It’s great to see so many Women travelers on YT. I rarely run into women on the road though. Great choice in rig. Enjoy!

Re: coffee... My goal was to be able to wake up, roll over, flip a switch, and have at least two LARGE cups of coffee ready to go, ideally with as little cleanup as possible. Since I have a Jackery Explorer 1000, powering a 5-cup Mr. Coffee is my solution, though there is still the problem of cleanup. Wet coffee grounds are a pain in the butt - it's usually the only "wet" garbage I produce. My dream would be to use those hockey puck looking sealed filters you find in hotel rooms. I don't know if they make ones that you could fill yourself. But I think I'll definitely switch to paper filters rather than the re-usable filter, which is a royal pain to clean. I think the coffee-filled teabags are definitely the way to go for backpacking - they're perfect for that application. You can make the coffee, throw the used bag on a rock to dry out while you're packing up camp, and then not get your garbage bag all gross. But I am NOT going through the hassle of setting up a stove and boiling water and waiting an eternity for it to drip if I can just flip a switch! I used to do Starbucks instant (I still do when backpacking) but I got hooked on Africafe when I was in Tanzania. You can get it on Amazon and it's by far my favorite instant! I love Eric's channel and your bed is a great upgrade to his design. Hopefully going to Home Despot tomorrow to get the materials! Great channel! P.S. I'm in a 2003 Odyssey EX-L.

Or a cheaper version to boil water almost as fast as the Jetboil is the remote canister stoves by Bulin that come with heat exchanger pot. See Mark Young, Paleohiker’s reviews for more info. Fits stove and canister inside mine for a quick grab/fast boil option for morning coffee. We’ve tried aeropress, GSI collapsible pour over with lid, and stainless double-walled bodums. I think bodums will continue to be used for family camps and pour over for quick one cups - flyncamp/backpack, etc…

Got this from Odessey Camper. A 110 hot coil ($10) for heating a cup of soup or coffee (old college staple 45 years ago) plugged into my Schumacher jump pack does the job quite nicely for me. Your battery jump starter has a 110 outlet. Odessey Camper uses a Pyrex measure cup to heat his water. I use a stainless pour over coffee cup with built in steel filter for no paper filters to deal with. (under$15). I also use a stainless ceramic hand grinder for the freshest coffee. Again under $15. I rigged a double male plug extension cord to plug into my van power outlet to recharge my Jump pack while driving by plugging into a 12V outlet on the pack. Both ends of the cord will be 12V powered or hot so i use care when unplugging it so as to not short out the fuse. Another caution is not to plug in the hot coil until it is in water and to unplug it before removing it. A dry coil will burn out fast. Best part is no flames inside the van. John

We like steeped coffee, at home we use clever drippers. I thought the GSI Outdoors Collapsible Java Drip was going to be perfect for our camper. The coffee water just drips right out. I had a Primula Brew Buddy that I brought backpacking, that worked but was messy to clean. I added a #2 filter and folded it up inside the brew buddy, they way we throw out the coffee grinds and then we can just rinse the brew buddy and it dries fast. We use the stanley adventure pot for boiling water for coffee or oatmeal.

Hi Kevin! Yep, we carry 2 bikes on a swing-arm bike rack I installed about a year ago. We run a cable and padlock through them when they're on the rack. Probably not gonna stop someone with some badass bolt cutters and malice in their heart, but it makes them less of a target. Do you travel with bikes, too?

@@TheVanThatGotAway I have an e-gravel bile I want to take. Would love to carry on rack outside but worried about theft - it is an expensive bike. Think I may have to snuggle up to it inside :)

I wanted a bike too but didn't want to carry it on the outside. I bought a scooter with a seat (detachable), because I can carry it inside.

Yeah, for you fancy people with expensive bikes 😉 I understand why you would store 'em inside. I would do the same! But our bikes aren't worth worrying about.

We travel with 2 expensive bikes . We have 3 heavy duty u type lock plus a motion sensor alarm thing that will blow your ear off. Put it in a place where the alarm would go off if the bikes are moved apart. Those are the purse kind of alarm that go off if they are pulled apart . But honestly when we park we back it up so it is hard to steal . No choice but we just make it harder for thieves.

How many watts does your Mr coffee draw?
@TheVanThatGotAway Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure because we always plug it in to shore power. I don't think our little DieHard has enough juice to do hot water.

COFFEE SOLUTION - Stop drinking that DRINK THIS INSTEAD V8 Energy - 1 can is more caffeine etc than 1 cup of coffee. You can drink it in 10 seconds if you want or sip it slow. Each can is 1 daily serving of Fruit and Vegetables (so better nutrition than coffee) It is flavored Green Tea and Black Tea. Best served Cold but room temperature is OK too. Longer lasting than coffee without having to pee constantly (because you drink less liquid) No coffee grounds to spill everywhere. No mug to clean. No prep time. I prefer the Orange Pineapple or the Peach Mango best but there are 3 to 5 other flavors I think they have it in the old V8 flavor too, but idk. I used to drink a pot of coffee a day. Now most days I just have 1 of these and that is it. 2 on the rough days.

Hi Bruce, That's an idea I hadn't thought of. Creative approach. But probably not gonna happen, to be honest 😆

@@TheVanThatGotAway 100% first thing I do in the morning, make my wife and myself a cup of coffee. When I’m in the van, French press, yes, you have to boil water, stove or electric pot are my options. Appreciate the content, picked up a few ideas.
