Gear Review and Cook: Trangia Mini 28-series cooking vegan cheese burger

I unbox my brand new trangia mini and explore it for you cooking a yummy vegan cheese burger. A great little piece of kit that I expect to use a lot over the coming months.

I’ve been using my mini trangia 28, for over 15 years, on countless hiking and motorcycle adventures. I’ve tried lots of other cooking options and systems, but I always come back to the Mini. Simple, robust, reliable, lightweight, versatile, cheap and compact piece of kit. The only advice I’d give is definitely get/make a small foil windshield - makes a big difference.

own several of the TRANGIAS, 25T STORMCOOKER, 27T STORMCOOKER, 28T Mini. Love them all. The 28T is especially nice for kayaking stopovers. I literally cook everything on it that I need for hot full-on meals. I use a leather glove when cooking, and ALWAYS hold the fry pan with the clip handle firmly attached so it doesn't dump and spill over . The kit pot can be used as a windbreaker with the kit potstand and burner placed directly inside the pot. Great for high winds uses doing it that way. I do carry a second bowl and small 7 inch cast iron skillet also at times. The cast iron works great for more even heating and for high wind conditions. That said, the basic kit, as is serves most needs. It looks like a child's toy but it's a real powerhouse piece of kit. If it got lost or damaged I would replace it immediately with the same one. Depending slightly on the fuel - mostly you dont wanna put the pan on top of the pot underside down, because there will be soot residue which is absolutely awful and also usually if you’re in nature various debris is likely to be sticking to the underside depending where you put it down last … even if you clean it all the time - the steam is likely to dissolve a bit more of the black coating that more or less inevitably builds. So - if it sticks every time you put it on the other way - thats a pretty key operational issue.

Your measuring container was a 32 oz or 1 liter which is 1000 mls. The Trangia contains that measure, NOT 500 mls that you stated.

Morning Squirrel Covers. The measuring jug is used was a 500ml container. It looks like the standard 1000ml one but is smaller.

@@bushcraftdavetrangia Thank for the reply I got my mini from go outdoors and the trangia website is the only place I have found to order the bag from but with £17 delivery for a £3 bag so maybe that was the way to go

Come on...... I love the kit but my wife sometimes makes me eat those same burgers and their not that good. . did you know that you can cut about a1/2 inch long piece or silicon tubing and slide it on the pot grabber so it will stay closed on the fry pan . It makes it so you can hold on to it better when turning over food. And it also will keep it closed inside the closed kit.also you know what they say about men with small hands.................they need small gloves 😮
