I noticed the same quirks when looking at one in store so I purchased the style with the expanding drop down side panniers and regular non roll top opening. Fingers crossed .

Hi Dean, Thank you for the review. I currently use the Bontrager MIK Utility Truck bag with the rain cover and it works very well. On my TREK 1120 I recently changed out the rear rack for the Bontrager Backrack Deluxe and it works so well. Thank you for posting these reviews on the equipment, these are so helpful.

Thanks for watching Dennis. It's good to hear you are happy with the rack. Mine has served me well for many miles! I looked at the Utility Trunk bag as well, It does look like a very functional bag. Safe Travels!

Good summary Dean, zippers seem to be a real issue with anything that needs waterproofing. As much as roll down tops can be a little fiddly (For me) I always feel more confident in their ability to keep the water out. I do like the idea of a trunk bag like these though. Would be ideal for a day ride.

Hi Bob. Yes I agree the roll down bags inspire more confidence for me as well. Thanks for watching. See you soon!

Thanks Dean, appreciated! Waterproofing is a key feature for me. Otherwise it looks pretty good.

Hi Ted. If waterproofing is key tan I have to say it's hard to beat Ortlieb. Thanks for watching!

Hey Bob I also need to stop by the shop and talk to you about a good point and shoot camera. What days are you there? Thanks

Is the flap not enough to keep the water out? Why do you need that internal system anyway? I'd get rid of it tbh, to not get into my way.

I agree 100% but I'm not a fan of the bag at all. The zippers are cheap and will definitely fail in no time. I'm going to remove the MIK mounting mechanism and attach it to a different bag. The MIK works great as for the rest of the bag, not so much. Thanks for watching! Cheers

@@WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures Thanks for the answer. My problem is that this bag is just ideally fitting my bike coloristicaly and it has the right size too (bigger compartment than most bags have), so I'll give it a chance anyway. I'm not a heavy user, so hopefully it will be fine. :)

Thanks JP. Unfortunately the quality is just not up to my standards. However the MIK attachment system is very nice. I hope all is well with you. Cheers

It is essentially the same bag so I don't see why not. Cheers

I used the Bontrager Commuter Trunk Bag with no issues. Exact same bag. $99 USD

Hello Michael! I hope you have been doing well. It's good to hear your experience was more positive. How long have you been using the bag? The reason I ask is I don't see the zipper holding in the long run. Thanks for watching Michael and stay safe out on the trails! Cheers

Great insight into the good and bad of the Basil bag Dean. I do agree about the zippers, and generally that IS why I find Ortlieb so great for all-weather bags - no zippers just roll-tops, cap-lids and buckle clasps. I do prefer a handlebar bag for around town use and my Ortlieb Ultimate Six 8.5 is 8.5 litre capacity. It has a magnetic-clasped lid for excellent water protection from rain (not at all waterproof in cases of submersion though). The other bag that I use for tours and local rides is a Carradice Camper Longflap saddle-bag - classic British bag in highly rainproof proofed canvas. I use that one with their special bag extender - the Saddlebag Rack Classic - which gives a quick-release mount on the saddle bag loops. It works like this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ioOam398eLekhac www.omafiets.com.au/carradice-saddlebag-rack-classic.html
