Gear Your Tank FAST! Prot Warrior Phase 1 Gearing Guide

Hey dudes. In our race towards August 27th, I thought I should finally tackle one of the most important guides - gearing your tank at 60. So since warriors are the undisputed champions of tanking in vanilla, here we are!
In this guide, I'll tell you the main 4 steps to gearing your warrior tank as fast as possible upon reaching level 60. Also, there's a few bonus tips and reasons given for each step, so make sure to pay close attention.

Mained a warrior from vanilla to Cata. I wasn’t 60 long enough before BC launched. There is much I didn’t understand back then, the second play through is going to be great!

This guide is 300 IQ, you will never die using that gear. How could you if the mob isn‘t hitting you because you cant hold aggro from an auto attacking melee?

I'm glad you simplified the list and places we need to visit.... My homeboy and i going to min max 2x tanks and 2x healers ....we definitely needed both your gearing list and farming gold guild.... Our plan is quickly get to 47 to 60 with tanks and healers so we can carry the rest of Guild thats level 35+ so we can get them thier mounts and help them with BIS for their classes and play style. If Riphook had the Diablo item stats it'd be totally awesome and very OP. At least for Hunters :) (22-25) - (61-70) Dmg +180-220% Enhanced Damage Slows Target By 30% 30% Chance of Open Wounds (Works like Rend) 30% Increased Attack Speed 7-10% Life Stolen Per Hit +35 To Mana Lots of Diablo items has made it into WoW, namewise at least.

Do not forget there is an easy to get and early Trinket you can get in Desolace called Mark of The Choosen...it is completely OP

That's got to be the single best preBiS trinket for any tank, or any melee DPS that is solo questing, etc.

Yes, Mark of Chosen is BiS forever. You will never find a trinket that has the values this trinket keeps up on you at a near 100% uptime. Threat, block str(better ss), dodge, armor, crit, and hp

Use caution when following this guide, there is some bad advice included. For example, the onyxia quest reward trinket choice: mark of tyranny is shown for the trinket slot at one point, but blackhand's breadth is a better tanking trinket. OP's knowledge of tank gearing is surface level.

@@SilviteSoltis No sweat man, you can't know everything about everything. I think this is an important example to call out because if you pick the wrong quest reward you're stuck with it. Other than that, this is a helpful resource for new players to get familiar with some items that might be useful, and where they can find them.

You can also get Verek's collar in BRD for 7 stam, 6 strength, and 2 dodge. It's a good neck that wasn't on the list

Bit what about your rotation as a prot warrior? I never see videos for rotation Im pretty new to tanking classic so I'll give my rotation and would appreciate feedback. Charge, bloodrage, thunderclap, tab all targets applying sunder. Am I doing this right or what?

Doesn't Rivenspike overwrite Sunder armor debuff so it shouldn't be really used by anyone in the raid?

Nah, just putting different debuff. But still some1 can complain bout it due to limited debuff slots in raid.

Gauntlets from Ras Frostwhisper are what you wanna target, and the leggings from rend with 2% dodge. Ornate adamantium breastplate from western plaguelands quest is also easy to solo.

2:18 that’s where your wrong. I don’t use fight paths, I kill every mob in sight, always sell gear I don’t or use, and I mine veins of all kinds to sell the stone and ores. I know it’s not the richest way to live, but hey at least I’m never low on funds.

Facts. I'm in Tbc rn lvl 49 with over 500g already. Sure I haven't sunk it all into consumes and BOEs yet but I'm making a fortune off of mining/blacksmithing. Not to mention the occasional 100g death roll that I never lose

What about Scholomance for the Deathbone pieces? Or is that just going overkill

The problem with that set (and the others that drop there) is the low drop chance for each particular item. There are 6 mini bosses that more or less share the loot table for four 5-item sets, plus some other items. Considering how lucrative other dungeons can be, I'd say it's PROBABLY not worth it to try grinding for that set.

Yeah I definitely didn't know as much as I do now back when I started making these guides. My basic idea was to get people geared quick, but I didn't fully realize how valuable crit could be for tanks. I thought about making an updated version of this, but at this point I'm thinking of focusing toward TBC guides for that eventual release, since most people that are going to cap have capped by now.

I’ve heared rumors from podcasts who cover classic beta and forum posts. Maybe blizzard will make all classes raid viable. Even feral spec. Maybe bear tank guides will be a thing in a couple months. We’ll have to wait and see.

demonfork is bullshit and horrible, as a tank you want a fast wep now slow to generate more threat, moreover demonfork has no stats and the effect uses a debuff slot.... do ur research dude, that wep is just pure shit for a tank
