On my grandparents farm, corn was also harvested on the cob. It was then stored in a corn crib. Then later the ears were out through a sheller one at a time to separate the corn from the ear. The sheller was powered by a tractor using a long belt. That was many years ago, and quite labor intensive too. This is one of the reasons why farmers had such big families. More hands to work the farm. 🚜😊

You are adorable! It always lifts my spirits when I watch your videos. Being an engineer, I wonder if you have ever cataloged the events that cause downtime/repair on the farm? I'm sure that you have a good idea but it seems that with a formal list someone could/should start working on solutions to prevent recurrence. From the videos, I assume that most problems are with the pivot movement system - tires, mud holes & etc. If so, these are solvable problems.

Laura, when you fence in the cornfield and put the cattle in there - do you also give them a salt block and or mineral block to lick to keep their mineral intake a peek performance. The reason I ask is because we have a few cows and give them mineral and salt blocks to lick at the end of summer - and once they do that they'll want to go out and eat palmetto leaves just like eating grass

Hi Laura, i was just wondering why you don't do checks & maintenance on the the machinery at the end of their job, rather than put it off until they are needed again. Maybe you could explain how these pivots actually work. Are they motor is the drive the wheels controlled individually or all at one time? Emission voltage is this three phase AC single phase or DC controlling his motors. Can you tell how much load is on each motor.?
@42base13
@42base13 2 жыл бұрын
It's 480v three phase power. The motors start and stop individually, controlled by position switches on each tower. Her comment about unstable voltage sounds like something is wrong somewhere in the system.

She set the pivot for an inch and a half? That might explain part of why their pivots get stuck so often. It's very unlikely that their ground can take the water in that fast, so the extra runs off and runs together in the low areas. No one I know runs over an inch at a time, and most run slightly less than that. We don't have time to mess with stuck pivots all the time.
