Hi Devon, I just wanted to say that I really enjoy watching your videos and appreciate all the hard work and effort that must go into producing these videos. I will be retiring from the Canadian Armed Forces soon after 20+ years of service and hope to get into the greenhouse hydroponics business in Ontario just north of you folks. I have recently discovered a passion for horticulture and the science behind it. I am learning a lot from your videos and wanted to say thank you. You're videos are amazing, very informational, and clever. lol.

I know I'm here in Michigan but thank you for your long long service to your country. Hugs from a southern neighbor. Some of our stores here buy hydroponically grown tomatoes and cucumbers from Canada so I know they can do it there.. I've just started dabbling in hydroponics and 3 heads of lettuce and some basil and celery started and I have to admit. Its kind of addictive. At least I have some found things to start me off okay, I have only had to buy net cups, rockwool and nutrients. So far I've spent less than $45. Kitty litter buckets are doing great as kratky buckets. I have several 6 foot sections of pvc and several rescued down pipes from my daughters old rain gutters as they are replacing them. Hubs even had a hole bit for cutting the holes. I also have several pumps and hoses for my little ponds to make NFT channels. Well I've rattled on long enough 🤣 have a great week and enjoy following your dreams into retirement. 🥰

Thanks, Ryan! I really appreciate that. It's a great industry, and we have seen a good amount of growth, even with the pandemic. Katy can testify that it's a full time job, but it's not strenuous and the work environment is very nice. Sounds like you know what hard work is, that is awesome and congrats on your retirement!

Hi Ryan, just noticed your posting and wanted to say thank you for your service!!🥰 Sounds like your retirement will be a very busy and interesting time for you! I’m in Toronto and am curious where you are looking to setup north of the city? I’m so envious Id love to be able to setup a business like that with growing on a much larger scale, I’ve been growing indoors on a very small scale as I’ve gone about learning all I can about hydroponics. There are a lot of methods and a lot of ways to succeed and even more ways in which to fail. Lol! But through my failures it has always been enlightening. Sometimes even when you do everything right you can still have failures and thats probably the most difficult. Hopefully you will also start a KZbin channel to show your progress as you start your business, I enjoy watching fellow Canadians succeed. 🥰🙏🏻🇨🇦

Wow I didn’t know there was a self-pollinating cucumber! Here I’ve been trying to hand pollinate all the female cucumber flowers with the male flowers that I’ve peeled down exposing just the Center portion and pressing it in to the Center of the female blossom. I suppose I’ll have to do some more investigation on the type of cucumber plants that I’m growing and perhaps I’ve been doing all of this for no reason at all?! Time will tell. I love watching all your little experiments and seeing how you actually do the things you do! I find it extremely helpful to watch you and learn from the things that you try to do. Thank you for all the detailed content, I’m really looking forward to watching as you continue forward with your growing space. I think it’s an excellent idea that you have utilizing your basement area in your home to set it up as a kind of nursery. You are extremely fortunate to have an awesome mother and father who are both still so young and able to do so much! I love the family aspect to your business and I know it’s not always easy to try to create content twice a week with all the other things you have to do. Just wanted to let you know from one completely new hydroponic hobbyist that’s just trying to grow some healthy and fresh produce. So far so good, I’m sure there is always a better way to do it but I’m trying to do it the most economical and reusable. Loved seeing you reuse the plastic cups for the fourth time I think you said. That’s what I’ve been using as well and sometimes I use two cups one with the plant and holes in it and the other that holds the liquid in it. It’s a bit of a chore especially as the plants grow larger because they need additional liquid almost every day. I’m looking forward to watching as your strawberries grow and how you plan to handle the offshoots that are produced. Strawberries are something that I’ve always wanted to grow indoors. Thanks again for all that you share I love learning from you and your mother. You all have such lovely smiles and calm and gentle ways when handling the plants and transplanting.🙏🏻🥰🇨🇦

I just need to get the supplies and make it this fall. We are busy with the greenhouse and the garden this time of year. Summers get crazy too with the farm markets every weekend, but it's fun. Thank you for the compliment about my parents. They have taught me so much and they enjoy doing things themselves. I will do plenty of updates on the strawberries and everything else. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

@m.b.boyack22283 жыл бұрын
Long-day onions produce bulbs when the days are long; short-day when the days are short and day-neutral tend to have less of a photoperiodic response. Day-neutral onions will form bulbs with 12 to 14 hours of daylight. Cheers.

I'm a tad bit jealous of your warm weather. Its been very cool and dry here. But I do have potatoes just peeking through the soil. I have frost cloth on them out back. I just bought a sample 10 pack of those blocks you had. I think they were called root riot. So far the seeds in those and the ones in the rock wool are neck and neck. I think we still have almost 3 week before last frost so , sigh, no cucumbers or zucchini yet. But soon. Right now my grow light banks are all in the dining room and hubby and I discussed using our basement too. I just have to talk him into dragging a 45 year old weight bench out to the curb lol. But instead of investing in a grow tent to reflect the lights I was looking at stuff at menards this past weekend and I might line the walls with something called radiant or reflective barriers its like silver bubble wrap. Its about $45 for a 25 foot roll thats 4 foot wide. I'm thinking that would work well as a home made growing tent in the basement. I use an emergency silver blanket right now taped to the shelving unit on back and front. But they are very delicate and tear easily (especially with a naughty cat helping). You have a wonderful day/night/week. Along with your whole family. Thanks for sharing with us.

Consider using LED grow lights in place of the HID. The initial cash outlay is a little higher but you can save 30-40% on electricity and produce significantly less heat. Be careful reading the specs, wattage at the wall and PAR are good for comparison.

Community supported agriculture. Its a business plan where a person give a designated amount of money, to a reputable farmer, the first of the year to support the farmers operation in return for a designated box once a week during production months. Usually 7 unique items in a box once a week. It’s a good situation for both parties.
