Kiwi Gooner Jeff rarely gushes over a game. That's why when he does, I tend to give that game a hard look.

It might be the way he speaks but he comes off like a zoloft commercial with how down on everything his neutral voice sounds. Doesnt help that he uses adjectives that are always introducing some mechanic as not good. which in reality just means it's not great for him but could still be fine. When most of his nitpicks sound like they REEaly hamper his enjoyment then it never registers when he sneaks in a ok i guess thats cool moment.

Make sure you play it on either a PC or Xbox One X, as playing it on a standard XBO only runs at 30 fps and dips below that sometimes (this is coming from someone playing on a standard Xbox One in online co-op with a friend, who is playing on an X).

JD's gentle slide into heel in Act 1 is followed by a transition into a new, Kratos from the other GoW style look for ultimate bad (Future?) dad resepect mode. It's awesome. This game wears it's influences on it's sleeves. These open world bits remind me of a less cool Uncharted 4. You know what? I think it works super well. Gears 6 is now on my radar in a way that this game wasn't. Trash mobs in the world to slow you down are not fun unless Destiny, and even then not always, though a few more secrets and easter eggs for the observant would have been fun.

Disappointing. I was blown away when I watched Act 1, sad to see that not even that seemed to have impressed Jeff at all. He sounds more down on this than Gears 4, which he at least called a good game lol. Which is surprising, since from everything I see, this looks to be a better game all around. Still, enough to check out for myself on Game Pass, especially with the glowing reviews from some outlets (game just seems divisive.. maybe as expected). Hope Act 2 and 3 don't end up dragging, but I'm still looking forward to exploring the world and I'm legitimately interested in the story. I might skip the towers and try to find as much as I can organically first.

Not sure why Jeff is so down on the "open world" stuff - if it's just a hub you get to windsurf around in to get to objectives, that seems... fine? They could absolutely have done more with it, but it doesn't strike me as something that would actually detract from the experience, as long as there's enough Gears action in there too?

The situation is: I want to play a shooter, not a walking/traveling simulator. With gears, you expect that consistent action flow. Here though, it's like: can I please get to shooting yet? If we wanted this experience, we would play Metro Exodus or something like that.

Have you played gears 5 yet? Pretty much where Jeff is in this vid and the skiff sections are such a drag. The best parts are when you discover something ala botw or any other open world experience, but everything in between is literally just snow and ice. The game would be better off omitting this entirely

Sometimes I just look at people playing the game.... sometimes they are bad. Like I understand brain farts but going on blaming the game or developers for things you misread or interpreted.... that’s you. Use jacks ability for the machine turret. And you pick your favorite character to display on the home screen

Wanted to watch this, but the opening minutes with Jeff just going around in a circle made me really motion sick. I used to think Quick Looks where they spent the first 4 minutes staring at menus were bad, but now I see there is actually a much worse option.

How was 4 atrocious..? Serious question. I get that some people were not impressed, but I can't think of many ways it was actually bad. And it's not like you HAVE to do the abilities in this game. They're there and deep enough to be used in passing like powers. It's like playing Control and saying "nah fuck this game and all the mechanics, I JUST WANNA RUN AROUND AND SHOOT SHIT." Like. Ok. Then go be you, my man. The level design is still there, the gameplay looks as tight and satisfying as ever, and the story seems like it'll be worth giving a damn this time. If you actually played Gears 4, then maybe drop $1 and try this on Game Pass. If you haven't, then you haven't and you can just say you're never gonna give it a chance.

Once you've played every genre of game 100 times across 30 years new ones have to do something to stand out. I feel that way and at least I can skip any release I want. These poor bastards have to play them to get paid.
