Fun fact: The Berserkers were originally going to have animations where they would knock the player to the ground and then tear them to pieces like they did to Gyules, but, the game developers thought that they were too brutal (Even for Gears of War) and they were cut from the game. There were even stories about the animation team having to take breaks between creating the animations because they were so jarring.

One little thing that sold the relationship between the Gears was at the last bit of interaction, after the berserker died. When Baird calls Marcus a jackass, Dom's instant reaction is to angrily step towards Baird, and Cole's own reaction is to stop him, immediately diverting the conversation away from confrontation. Also, Marcus was also clearly stepping in to stop Dom, showing he had already assumed command and was heading off an argument in the unit that was now his. A lot shown in only a few seconds. Great scene.

I like the original cutscene from GoW better maybe because after the guy was ripped to shreds the way they all walk back and dom was like "oh shit" it looked like they had more fear for the berserker.

But the actual massacre is more graphical, even showing the shadow of the berserker tearing him to shreds, and the screaming is pretty much the icing on the cake imo.

In the original the berserker just swings it's arms in a circle over and over. Even back in 2006 I though that cutscene was really badly done.

That Berserker was really frightening . My heart throbs so fast when I play this part. Not only you fight one Berserker, but you fight 3 of 'em in the game.

I love the remaster of this scene, but I think the original is kinda more frightening because in the original the COG gear's screams sound more agonizing and painful and it looks like it's just folding him over and over again

I think you need to go back to the og and listen to it. It's just grunts and a few quiet squeals. There is a video on here where you can here grasping and painful grunts as he gets ripped apart.

The first time I played Gears was also the first time I encountered the Berserker… in 2007 when I was nine, my dad was at work so I asked my mom if I could play his Xbox; she said yes and took a nap with my baby brother. I booted it up beyond excited to play it, and decided to play the part where the second berserker encounter happens in the greenhouse, which I had no idea would happen. The description has always stuck with me: “Enjoy the local flora and fauna.” Needless to say I was scared as shit and after dying several times I just played another part lol. 14 years later I’m still playing Gears!!
