That exhaust sits right behind the driver and ecu, which tends to cook the components in the ecu. That's probably why the exhaust was wrapped. There is an ecu harness extension that moves it away from the heat, just don't remember the site... also, honda jazz calipers make a good front break upgrade.

3:18 learned something new after all these years, had no idea a 75W-90 gear oil was roughly the same viscosity as 10W-40 engine oil. Awesome refresh, that was a lot of wrenching time condensed in 16 minutes.
@jamesbutler401710 ай бұрын
I’m a Honda guy and watching him put in 75w90 Just hurts my soul. Short term everything should be fine. However, you were going to develop shifting issues. The synchro are going to work correctly because of the thick oil. This is going to lead to grinding of gears. I hope you read this before you guys drive this thing.

If that's GL-5 gear oil (I'm 90% certain it is), I hope his synchros are able to withstand the additives. I literally just replaced my transmission after running this oil not knowing it was specifically meant for differentials, not transmissions.

As with most period Hondas, distributor bearings are a major failure point on the E07A, so you should probably check it. It's not too hard to change. The E07Z variant was available with both a turbo and COP ignition. I always thought it'd be fun to swap one in with a MS (particularly because ECU failure is also a period Honda failure point), especially if I could keep the ITB setup as well.

Honda valvetrains tend to be clackity when cold. But it’s also easy to miss the clearance on a valve even after thinking you double checked everything. I’ve definitely done it a time or three. But also the rocker arms are supposed to be loose like that, due to the cold valve lash clearance.

Something I've learned about synthetic oil after making an old engine run again.... flush that oil at 2000mi or earlier the first time... it will flush a ton of garbage out, especially if the engine had a lot of varnish or carbon in the rings and stuff.

First thing to do with a used engine is to check the cleanliness inside because that shows if it had been maintained. And since it's out also the main and big end bearings, because knowing their condition just brings confidence in the engine. Assuming they're good or, if bad, and you replaced them. Also for a used engine i highly recommend running it with diesel engine oil for the first oil change. Diesel oils have higher detergent content and help clean sludge from the engine, especially if you have noisy hydraulic lifters.
