Yup, I love their trips between how entertaining they make them, how fun it is to listen to them, the beautiful cinematography and the scope of each trip. I actually wasn't expecting this trip, I was going through their videos and with how many projects they had going on I figured they would skip a road trip or even with how grand their have been maybe put them to rest. So happy they are continuing to do them, it's what hooked me in the first place followed by their fantastic grid life stuff.

We drove from South Carolina to Alaska and back for a car rally in a 1965 Ford Mustang back in 2016. Made it in two magazines, one the cover of Mustang Monthly. :) Project Road Warrior. The way up we went through Montana and Banff National Park and the Canadian Rockies and came back down the Cassiar Hwy where we had no service and saw a bunch of bears eating berries on the side of the road.

Most of the scenes in the opening minute were of Western Canada, immediately recognizable to anyone who knows it well. Cascade Mountain's southeast wall on the thumbnail, as seen from near Canmore Alberta, Mt Robson near Jasper at 0.03 seconds, entrance to the Rockies near Banff at the village of Exshaw at 0.31 seconds, google images will prove all of them, others such as the Icefield Parkway climbing Sunwapta Pass on the Banff-Jasper National Park boundary at 0:45 don't have specific pictures on-line, but anyone who knows every peak on that 150 mile long road can identify it in seconds, here taken above the cliffs of Cirrus Mtn by drone, the highway can be seen climbing the pass in the distance. That cowboy at 0:37 talking about his gun charges/criminal record looked and sounded Montana or Wyoming though.........

Honestly, I know you probably wouldn't be able to, but a 20-40 hour multiday roadtrip across the US is surprisingly really fun. Just get a cooler with some snacks and drinks, a somewhat roomy ish car and a bag of chips or whatever snacks you want, and just admire the change in scenery and possibly stop at some landmarks. I would love to go to Europe and do like a tour accross a few countries, sounds awesome just walking around and taking trains and crap to go places (excuse my absence of knowledge about European cross country public transportation, I'm american so all we have is amtrak which loses money and buses which are... strange to put it that way) Edit: you'll want at least one friend to go with you, 3 is probably to sweet spot

Yeah Stock for stock subarus are nice but when you start pushing for power they’re quite limited on stock components. Evos are the perfect 4 cylinder to build but issue is if you want to exceed 400hp and not have your rods bend you have to build the bottom end.
@matteugenio
@matteugenio 2 жыл бұрын
@@manhattanskyline4526 Agreed. I have friends that all built their Evos or STIs and they all didn’t end well. Not saying it’s impossible, just proving that Evos & STIs can be reliable if you don’t build the motor. Stock is always the most reliable. Hey, both Bens made it back home right? They proved that you can drive to Alaska & back with 500whp built motors 🙌🏽

@@manhattanskyline4526 Josh Bader is a great guy to go watch on KZbin. He shows you what you can do with a Subaru. His wife's Type RA was 700 whp for 2 years on the stock engine. He's shows it all. After seeing countless "builds" perform varying degrees of shitting the bed in my life, it's really a testament to how GOOD the OEMs really are at bringing a volume product to market. Sure, they have issues, recalls, etc. But it's pretty amazing that they're able to crank out tens of thousands of cars that generally don't have any major issue. Lots of owners put lots of hard track miles on high revving, 500 NA horsepower GT cars that don't break a sweat and only spend money on consumables like tires, brakes, bearings/bushings, etc. It's kind of incredible.

Loving this trip…..and the cars. One question many may be curious about: How do built engines need to be maintained that is different than standard, OEM, engines - rebuilding, wear, etc. Just curious on will they go for a long time like a stock engine is supposed to or do you need to plan on new say things every 50k miles. Have heard lots of stories on the latter end of things…. Thank you.
@codyhendrickson7735

The only maintenance change is using a different weight of oil. The stock Subaru Ej motor would use 5w-30. But with a built motor, lots of guys used a heavier weight of oil. Using the engine builder will let you know what oil to use depending of the tolerances of the engine build.
@RadBunny2269

Even w/ a stock motor you have to carry out major service around every 60k like apart from the timing kit.

Aero makes lot of difference in gas mileage. Roof rack definitely making a difference.

roof rack? man. done thousand of miles with and without roof rack and roof box. the difference can be marginal
@kiykim277
@kiykim277 2 жыл бұрын
@@edmunek maybe if the cars dumped like these cars are I would understand it being marginal. But with higher cars roof rack and the weight you put on will definitely make a difference. mine made about 1.2 mpg on my 3 inch lift 4runner. And the noise and whistling is definitely noticeable. But nothing beats the mud terrain tires I put on. After that I stopped counting mpgs. =P

Imagine having enough gas money for this trip 😭😭😭 But seriously tho, both cars get around 20 mpg, assuming they have to drive ~3000 miles(Idk accurately) that's like 300 gallons of gas, or $1500 in gas money alone.

That's a crazy amount of mileage! I did a road trip with a friend of mine and we went from New Jersey to Maine over the summer and that was the longest distance I've driven so far. We split it up over a couple days and visited a lot of coastal towns along the way so it wasn't that bad. I couldn't imagine making this journey though, but kudos for taking this once-in-a-lifetime journey!

Dude you need to get out and drive more. I’ve done the drive from NY to Florida and back a number of times, to North Carolina and back, Maine and back, and even Florida to NY in a rickety 15ft uhaul. All were super enjoyable and cathartic
@colechapman6976

@@shadesofgold24 For me driving is not really a whole lot of fun. I don't really care for really long-distance stuff and only did the Maine trip because I was able to cut it down to 3-4 hours of driving each day. I got to see all the quaint towns that I wanted to see and I think if I were to do a big trip, it wouldn't be done by driving. It's such a hassle. I would much prefer to stay in the northeast or fly and rent a car, which is what I always end up doing if it's a really far drive. I would maybe do a trip to Quebec or Montreal next, that could be fun
