@@beepboopthemyth Exactly. He just have to make sure to have generous amount of space to let the console breath and also clean its surroundings often, so that the console would breath clean air all the time. I bought a PS4 Pro white edition from a Japanese guy, and the console is super silent, even though it has been used and there are no sings of thermal paste reapplying. I think most cases could stem from people not having enough open space. You want to make sure that nothing is blocking the back of the PS5. You want to have heat moving away much as possible so that cool air can intake. If you live in a hot room, maybe move your system into a living room with better room temps overall.

Given that all of Sony's marketing material for the PS5 has the console standing vertically (even the image on the front of the box has it vertical) it would be a really bad look for them if it turned out that having the PS5 vertical for a long period of time caused major issues. They couldn't just turn around and say "the console ideally should be placed horizontally" as in no way have they ever specified that. I replaced the thermal paste on my ps4 pro it runs so much smoother and quieter. I use my ps5 horizontally and put ventilated side plates on. Also have a fan for the back. I did research and realized it was the biggest hoax because all of the people claiming this led to the same thing. A guy flipping off sony claiming they had a "major hardware failure". The hype around it was because people had spent a ridiculous amount of money on this and the internet just seemed to make it more of a problem than it actually is. I still had my concerns though but this video helped put the nail in the coffin on my opinion.

Every fat PS5 is doomed to have this problem. I fix at least 10 PS5s every week with the same problem, im a qualified tech and I've been doing this for 27 years. When I tell you it's a problem trust me, sony won't admit anything because they want your money. Many parents pay for their kids PS5s and a company like sony would love for them to break it and buy a new one. It's just business to them, sony hasn't cared about its customers since the late 80s. According to Mark Cerny (architect of PS5) the PS5 won't downclock based on temperature to ensure parity across all PS5 systems. As far as I understood the PS5 is entirely power-limited, although I'd be curious how they can have deterministic clocks even in a powerlimited scenario, because a better sample should consume less power and be able to clock higher anyway. In any case from what I've understood from Mark's presentation the PS5 shouldn't downclock based on temperature so I wouldn't expect to see performance issues based on thermal throttling.

What I want to know is whether or not there is any evidence to suggest that dry spots on the cpu are more likely to occur in the vertical position (due to the potential that gravity is pulling the liquid metal to the bottom of the chip) or if the position is just entirely irrelevant. I understand that people shouldn’t be worried about it running down out of the seal but I’ve seen a ton of repair videos with a dry spot so I’ve been curious about the exact causes.

How about you do the research and find out because I've watched videos of a repair guy who showed multiple consoles still sealed and almost every one had dry spots from the PS5 being sat vertically. @@Games.Gadgets.Sports These are the same videos I'm referring to but do any of them specifically state that their customer informed them that they kept the console in a vertical position? If they did, I don't recall. Nonetheless I wish people would be more clear about the dry spot issue and finding out if the consoles being used vertically is indeed the primary cause of this problem. Ultimately, we can't just assume that based on these repair videos simply because there have been over 30 million PS5's sold at this point so it's hard to gauge exactly how prevalent the issue is or the exact cause. Everyone was far too focused on the liquid metal leaking when that was never really an issue but it seems like the dry spot issue really isn't being addressed all that much and until I have a solid answer I'll keep mine horizontal even though I prefer how it looks vertically.

I put it on it’s side and played for 4 hours on a game I know shuts down the console after a hour in the vertical position. I still need to clean it. And was ready to take the whole thing apart to get to the power supply. But now that can wait until the weekend.

The odd thing about people saying that it being vertical is an issue is that in most cases where you use it on a CPU it is in a vertical position. I used liquid metal between my 8700K and the IHS years ago and its been nice and cool under its water block ever since. If the application is correct, and the mounting pressure is correct, then its going to be fine. Liquid metal is dangerous if applied poorly but if it is done properly its not really as dangerous as people make it out to be.

A CPU heatsink on a PC has much stronger clamps holding it down, even then I won't use liquid metal in a PC. Maybe in a flat desk PC, but definitely not a tower. It's not needed anyway and liquid metal runs, it's conductive. One drop gets out the board is fried

@EatMe420 what you just said. I'm not saying every model is affected but if sony is so adamant that only a few models are affected they should be replacing those models regardless of warranty. It's a manufacturing defect that was doomed from the start, I've had washer machines that were years out of warranty and they got replaced for an issue that was going to happen regardless of warranty. If the problem is as small as sony says, they should have no issue replacing affected models.

Liquid metal is superior to thermal paste. You gotta be using your PS5 inside an oven to actually get so hot enough to have a messy melted liquid metal inside your system. This is what these so called “professional” failed to address. My PS5 is being used minumum of 10 hours straight with a lot of people using it and still works like it was brand new and it’s always been in Vertical position. And I got the launch PS5.

ive been using LM ever since it first beccame available for purchase about 10-15 years ago, on CPUs and GPUs(mostly with water cooling loops) and i am suprised itss still not well known how to apply it properly. If you are using it on a flat surfaces(most chips are with few exceptions of curved or damaged ones) you have to paint it on both surfaces of contact. This means you would not be able to see any pools but literraly use a tiny amount to simply cover 100% of both contact surfaces - sort of like painting a house. it takes patience but this way nothing will leak out no matter how you store or use it. Most people(including Sony PS5) use waaay too much of LM. I have done LM on few PS4s and PS4 Pros and it still looks the same if checked years after.

@pesokpesok 6 ай бұрын
@@thelionszen3352exactly, with LM less is always more- whatever you think is little enough - apply quater of that and again the goal is to "paint" both contact points with as little of LM as humanly possible. If you see reflective pools gathering - youve done too much. Perfect LM application looks like a perfect mirror without any bumps or gaps on close up, you have to be patient and just keep "painting" with something like a qtip(make sure its the one where little hairs dont fall out). If you put too much - use dropper or syringe to suck it back up(quality LM is not cheap) and you can use it on something else later since it doesnt seem to have an expiration date(still have a tube of my first LM from at least 15 years ago and it still works as it was new). I dont use anything else for heat transfer(and havent used tape or foam insulators(although its a good idea) to catch run off in a decade - not a single problem with hundreds of applications)- only LM since when its applied properly(read above) there is 0% risk of it leaking and shorting components simply because there isnt enough of it to leak but more than enough to cover all the microfractures on the contact surfaces(always do both sides)

Good having videos addressing this Just one thing I'll add about it shifting and hot/dry spots since I haven't seen people mentioning this in detail: Many people has expressed when opening the PS5 about it having seemingly "excessive" amount of liquid metal And I think that's by design, to basically fill the whole space inside the gasket so there's no empty space for the liquid metal to shift Unless after some time or due to external environmental conditions such as climate that it gets "burned off" through slow evaporation Then the hot/dry spots might start happen, so generally no need to worry for a a long time if it's in good conditions; or keep it horizontal if you have the space left (which I don't have with the other systems that were there already so I stood them all up now; I've just always preferred horizontal but it's not something that worries me, just to take into account since gravity is a thing

As someone whose had a ps5 since the very first day it released and has played games almost daily for hours on it or has left it on to download pretty often I can confidently tell you it's a lie.

My Movies stopped skipping as soon as I laid my PS5 down, so that tells me there is some truth in it.

Common sense shows that the liquid slowly seeps to the bottom of the pad and leaves a dry spot. It's just a shame it looks terrible placed horizontally.

The big problem with liquid metal is its ability to pretty much infiltrate and ruin the cohesiveness of most metal substances, a tiny speck can do a whole lot of damage and no one has ever thought of the Gallium element when heated, becomes an oxide which is pretty destructive to your components. Some are also beginning to suspect Sony did this to install planned obscelescence, that from the time at factory to time in use, its a ticking timer that will always fail regardless of upright or flat because the stuff just attacks everything inside the PS5 over time. Most of us old overclockers we soon gave up on the stuff simply as it was machine death if it got out and it was so unpredictable, it could escape with relative ease migrating against dialectic greases, shrouds, it was better practice to just lap your cooler and lid faces up to about 8000 grit finish and use a decent ceramic TIM. Often we would take a new cooler and have it surface ground to true before lapping, the last one I had done was my Coolermaster V8 and the thermal exchange on that was amazing due to me polishing it to a very high mirror on the copper side and Arctic Silver Ceramic between CPU and cooler base.

The ps4 had planned obelescence and once it got pointed out Sony "patched" it. So I wouldn't be surprised if that's what the liquid metal is

I hadnt cleaned my ps5 in a while and I noticed performance drops, so I cleaned it thoroughly and now no issues.....clean ur consoles out. Take the panels off and check the fan and air channels

Vertical I noticed it stayed dust free but pulled in less air so this liquid metal myth scared me into laying her down she stayed cooler but she was packed with dust in a few days.

Pulling more air = pulling more dust. So that makes sense. Just wonder why would it pull more air lying down.

I had the same problem I had it horizontal since I’ve bought it in November but it accumulated a lot of dust, yesterday I just put it vertical and honestly it’s not even getting as hot as it was when I had it horizontal.

Definitely a lie I’ve had mine standing vertically over 2 years now, no issues. I’m willing to bet they removed the little black seal around the chip and didn’t place it back properly. Also it could have been placed wrong from the factory. I suspect some dishonesty on the person who originally reported this. My ps5 is still virtually silent as the day I got it.
