All that money we pay out for a ps5, and if we can't lay it down , then we have to do a flip/ flop, game ,and hope its on time, that what ever is in side ,melting and running down, that we flip it over befor it goes to far and we turn it over, so it runs back the other way, thats a no for me , i will be selling this ps5 and getting a ps pro., its much better, all the way around, like it don't leak and its gut more room for games and its just as powerfull.

I switched to horizontal because my system was always clicking at start up. No issues since switching from vertical. I also realized that dust was falling into the intake vents easier in the vertical position rather than the horizontal position. Thanks for the upload!

I don't understand why this isn't obvious. Vertical = vents exposed from the top. Horizontal = vents covered from the top. Not to say it still won't get dirty, but a lot less.

I have owned my disc version PS5 since November 2022 and I’ve loved having it this past year. It’s been very reliable for me with no major problems and I’ve had mine placed vertically as well. I have a dust cover on mine that goes over the middle of it that costs $30 off of Amazon and it’s designed to not block any airflow either, it’s one of those that have a lot of little holes in it. Every once in a while I’ll clean the dust cover and that’s it, so getting the proper one can help with reducing dust that reaches inside of your console. I have mine in my living room and on an organizing cart that’s right next to my TV.

I agree 100% with you. For over 30 years I was a TV engineer and when I started TV's with electronic valves/tubes were still common place. Over the years solid state came to be the normal, but the game changer came when the Japanese started selling TV's here in the UK. Suddenly reliability improved beyond belief. One of the main reasons for this was that the Japenese TV sets mounted their chassis/PCB's horizontally so that any heat didn't travel up the board so eliminating overheating issues on other components. It took the UK manufacturers a while to twig-on, by which time the Japanese had a stranglehold on the market. History is a great teacher.

I’ve had one from day one, and have it upright on the stand and never had an issue with it. The Liquid Metal myth has been busted by everyone including Sony, the only consoles suffering from this tends to be ones that have been dismantled by tech reviewers wanting to look inside and then reassembling them.

I had my PS5 vertical for 2 years, and all of a sudden it started saying "Your PS5 is overheating, turn off console" right in the middle of my games. I was freaking out over it. I thought my PS5 was about to die. The minute I switched it horizontal I never received that notification again. Also from an I.T perspective I highly encourage PS5 owners to invest in an external cooling fan. They aren't too expensive.

External fans do nothing to keep the PlayStation cool because they are nowhere near the processor. All they do is blow air and dust through the system. I've tested them myself with thermal guages and there was no difference in temperature. They are just scams to get people who don't understand how any of that stuff works to buy them.

I have a launch PS5 disc version. Been vertical entire time, zero issues, fans never spin at full speed. Always playing AAA titles and VR2. It's well ventilated and I clean 1x/yr and find almost nothing. I flipped it over upside down like the video says, it immediately maxed fans, heat warning on screen. Flipped back over and runs perfect as ever. Just my experience

Instead of juggling your PS5, try using a charging dock that exhausts air from the bottom AND also a triple fan attached to the exhaust vent on the back. I have my PS5 verticle using the above-mentioned and have had no frame stutter since then. The additional fan on the rear helps blow out a tremendous amount of heat, so much so that your room will get warm. Don't place the PS5 in a shelf either. I have mine on top of the TV stand next to the TV/monitor 6 inches away from the wall.

Sometimes i have my ps4 and ps5 running together and in the winter my room will be 10 degrees warmer😂 i have a small room tho. Its only 16x24. The reason their overheating is after the first model CF1000 Sony reduced the size of heat sink down by 50%. That's why the first model is selling for double the price of the later models that will overheat sooner or later no matter what you do

This video is garbage. Nothing here is true. I’m pretty sure a company who invested millions into a product would test its heating capabilities in every way possible before telling people they can position it either way. Secondly yes the newer models have smaller heat sinks but they also have a smaller SOC. The original designed used 7NM iirc and the revisions and new slim uses a 6NM. So it doesn’t require as big of a heatsink because it doesn’t put out as much heat. You all should really use trusted sources that do actual scientific correct testing with correct equipment like GamersNexus instead of ramblings like this and BS statements in comment sections. Just to clarify I have an original day 1 PS5. I keep mine horizontal, well ventilated, and clean it once a month. Don’t be an idiot with your electronics and you won’t have any issues. PCs have been using Liquid Metal vertically for YEARs without issue. I use my PS5 only for exclusive games otherwise I play on my PC which also uses LM. Thermal Grizzly to be exact. Video is total BS for views and OP is either ignorant or knows it.

I had my PS5 for several months, only thing my PS5 is doing after turning it on, it'll make a loud noise sound like a electric pencil sharpener, it doesn't happen all the time, to make it stop making the sound is to restart it manually, by turning it off and wait at least maybe a minute or less before turning it back on, I guess that it depends on how concerning you're feeling, or anyone else feels. If it makes the sound again after turning it back on, try again if you have too. That's what I've been doing for my PS5. It might be depending on what games we're all playing.

If you have a disc drive version that probably the culprit, try removing the disc and restart your system as it tends to spin up loudly when you boot your pa5 for about 20-30 secs.

Wall mounted about 4ft from the floor is perfect. Best ventilation all round and had no problems with mine. Took it out of the vertical bracket after over a year to clean it and had almost zero dust inside, literally a tiny couple of specs that wiped away with my finger. Never gets hot and runs completely silent. I have the gen2 fan version, there's 3 different models. Launch ones are the most unreliable.

I have heard only of first dual sense controllers and left stick drift issue. I have one since may 2020. In vertical position. Never any problem. USB melting started with gen 3., not gen 1.

I got some aftermarket side panels for mine that has screen filters right over where the fans are, and after about a year or so, the dust inside was fairly less than expected given the state of the vents themselves, didn't do a full teardown, but the fan blades still look fine and i very rarely hear them spin up to full while playing

I've been using a dust cover for my system since I've bought it. I've also had it vertical since I've bought it. Though I don't play it that much. It's also important to give your ps5 space for air flow. I'm a plumber, and for many things that I do appliance wise, you need air gaps so your object has room for breathing.

My vertical stand has the fan blowing up and charges two controlers, i always thought allowing more air flow would not be a bad thing. Ever since i got my ps5 i've never seen a horizontal stand for the ps5 that included a fan let alone a controler station, so that was my answer to the best way to keep it. 🎉 never had any issues. 2tb loaded with space waiting on spider man 2 oh! Boy!.

Most gaming rigs are built in vertical standing pc cases. This also means the heat sink, or AIO pump is mounted to a processor that’s not in a horizontal orientation I.e table top with the cooling method resting on top. This has been my case for years with various thermal paste and going on two years with a test rig using Liquid Metal. Not once has there been an issue with hot spots on the processor from dissipating compound. It’s the removal of the heatsink from the processor and not reapplying fresh compound or Liquid Metal that’s the issue, in combination with people not cleaning their system. In the case of computers, it’s a much simpler task and one that should be done minimum every other year (cleaning inside the computer case). Liquid Metal isn’t new and Sony wouldn’t advertise a vertical orientation if they discovered their console would run into issues going on 4 years with their console in this position.

Main reason consoles get hot is poor ventilation & lack of general cleaning the dust out periodically. Cooling mats will help providing you power them with a separate 5v dc adapter NOT the console, giving the psu less work will help keep it running normal.

Having it horizontal is like having the console against a wall. The heat radiates back inside and makes one side hotter than the other. I have a little fan blowing in front of the system and out the back. The hot air comming out the back is about twice as much than before.

Those fans are a scam. I've done tests of my own with thermal meters and I've seen others do them as well. The system gets no cooler from having those extra fans because they aren't anywhere near the processor. All they do is blow more air and dust through the system.

On my PS5 that developed a hot spot due to Liquid Metal settling from standing vertical the fan got SO much louder that it was instantly noticeable. It would ramp up MASSIVELY and then back down between scenes. I mean, so much louder you could hear the difference on the other side of the house. It would eventually warn of overheating and/or shut off. This PS5 was impeccably clean and maintained, this was not a dirty PS5 issue.

By logic, though, it should be sitting horizontally, and this is to avoid most kinds of failure with liquid metal. Over time, a seal can go bad and eventually leak due to gravity if standing vertically. My only criticism here would be that the system should be designed with the disc drive on top of the console instead of it being underneath. My second criticism, although due to design, should have the expanded SSD topside instead of on the bottom. Heat rises as a basic principle of thermal dynamics, so I am confused why the PS5 was designed with the SSD facing the optimal position. This might have something to do with cooling, but an engineer should be the one to answer this question

I think a lot of the heating issue with these system has to do with people putting them in their T.V stand boxed in on shelf. I know a few people who had over heating issues and each one of them had it jammed in a shelf surround other electronics and even some having the door closed all because it looked "to cluttered" if it sat out on top of the tv stand.

I kept my PS5 in Vertical for 4 years. I decided to put it horizontally, and I noticed it has more air flow for some reason. It doesn't get as hot. I clean my PS5 every 2 months. I take care of it.

Personal opinion I preferably choose vertical as that’s how the console was revealed and how sony wanted them to be shown also they wouldn’t have included a stand if they weren’t meant to be vertical you would’ve had to buy a 3rd party stand but then again it’s you opinion because it’s your ps5 in your house so you should choose the way you want it

I have digital PS5 and I say keep the machine clean at all cost if you smoke cigarettes not around the machine I don't smoke I say clean about 2-3 times a week and have a air spray can but for the most part I have no issues not one just cleaned it earlier 😊

Ive been building PCs for 20 yrs, so Ive always used my ps5 in horizontal well ventilated position since unboxing.. and its still silent with minor air flow noise in- game, and in my experience with fan blades, air flow, heated liquid metal and enclosed devices.. Ive never understood Sonys logic for promoting vertical standing, other than the ps5 will die quicker, so they'll sell more... but the secret is.. Dont use it on a carpet.. and... Keep it Clean every 3 months.. Its simple...

I play my ps5 system about 14 hours straight when I jump on. Since day one when they first came out. I have had mine standing up. Never once have I had a crash because it's hot or overheating. But also at the same time we don't smoke. Our dogs don't shed. And at least once or twice a year I will take my panels off and blow my system clean. Whether it needs it or not.

I already touched on them not including a vertical stand with the slim. Guarantee part of that is warranty related. If you buy a separate vertical stand and your console winds up overheating and having a problem they can have a stronger case to disclaim the warranty because you didn't use the stand that came with the console.

Honestly I highly doubt a console as expensive and high tech as a ps5 wasn’t designed to be viable horizontally or vertically, doesn’t make sense that it would be one or the other they wouldn’t make clips to keep it stored horizontally if it wasn’t intended. The biggest reason ps5 overheat is dust build up I have a cleaning kit & a mini vacuum/air compressor & clean mine at least once a month & I’ve never had even the slightest issue with overheating.

Got a ps5 a month or so after launch. Camped out at GameStop for Black Friday and I’ve had it vertical the whole time I clean it every 6 months give or take I’ve stayed up for hours playing cod on it after I had my daughter I’ll just leave my ps5 on and wait for it to go into rest mode never got a over heating prompt before I don’t notice much frame drop and I don’t hear my fan often sometimes my ps5 cranks up a bit when I turn it on but after it’s on it’s quiet my ps5 seems solid as far as I know

Honestly I think it depends on what system release you received. The ones made pre covid were definitely better quality. During covid and post covid they just arent. I was one of the first ones to get it, and I have had zero issues. Its quiet, runs smooth, and never over heats. I play it hard as well. I do keep it horizontal so I cant tell you if that makes a difference. If you check the comments there are day 1 players that keep it vertical with no problems though. I think if you are going to keep it vertical, get the digital version, because I CAN tell you I kept my PS2 vertical and the discs would get stuck and eventually the disc player broke. Either way Sony should be held accountable, because they got greedy during the shutdowns, they knew people had to stay home, rushed production to supply the huge increase in demand, and didnt care about QA.

I had mines for 2 years just got the overheating problem a few months ago and I usually clean it every 3-4 months I put it vertical to see if that helps like ppl said but I still had this problem and it’s only with ps5 games so I can’t enjoy my Spider-Man 2 game cause it randomly shuts off so tomorrow I’m doing a deep clean once my tools to clean it comes in hopefully this fixes the problem and I guess get a fan for the back as well

If you keep that fan clean an keep a dust cover on it when you go to sleep at night you won’t have heat problems like that i got dust covers for my PS5 an Xbox Series X an I keep my room cool to that helps alot i think some of these peoples just don’t take the time to clean there consoles an they just stay on them all day an night so they start over heating an plus they don’t keep there room or living room at a cool temperature either to me it helps keep the console from over heating cool air helps alot
