These seem like decent ratchets and the price is okay, they seem well made and do not seem to want to lock up or jam, and the steel handle go all the way through the comfort grip and does not stop short like some other brands. The anvils are not super tight and the bottom plate is thin but overall they seem reasonable for what they are charging.

My problem with pawn shops closest to me, is the majority of time they charge more than brand new

I've had the 1/4 & 3/8" 90 tooth for about 2 years and they have been good ratchets...definitely a great quality for the price, especially if you got a deal on them....

I have the 3/8th bought it after watching Project Farm’s Ratchet showdown, gotta say it’s a really good ratchet and I love how little back drag they have.

I watched the ratchet comparison Project Farm did. I have looked at the Gearwrench ratchets at Tractor Suppy, I just haven’t bought one yet. I do like my older Gearwrench swivel head ratchet.

I have the 84 ratchet set and it's been a great set. I also have the 120 which are excellent but they have a larger head. Gearwrench is an excellent brand.

I've got the set, been happy with them. The 1/4" has become one of my favorite. I've just found that I hardly ever reach for a standard length ratchet wrench anymore. I always end up using the long pattern, extra long or the stubby.

Anvil wobble can be minimized with brass shim stock. Disassemble the ratchet, clean thoroughly, apply a thin layer of mineral oil in the cavity, add a piece of .002" shim cut to fit securely, lube as normal, & re-assemble. I use 3-in-One oil. If you experiment with shim thicknesses you can customize how tight/loose you want the anvil. If I remember correctly, the pawl has an up side that you need to make sure is oriented right when re-assembling. I've shimmed all my GW ratchets including my locking flex. Direct quote from Apex Tool Group tech support: "As for maintenance there really isn’t any. However, you can use light coat of grease on the gears, or if you prefer oil, you can use air tool oil, mineral oil even 30w non-detergent oil to lubricant occasionally if you like."

My work we make washers snd spacers from many various steel and sizes. I had issue with a Capri ratchet that was stopping while ratcheting. I found it had too much clearance machined under the anvil. So I did just what you said. Grabbed an assortment of very thin stainless washers from work parts barrel. Fixed the problem. I even contacted Capri tools at that time I was experimenting checking out their tools. They appreciated me contacting them and told me that indeed they did have quality issue the bottom ratchet cavity was milled a bit too deep. Very nice people at Capri you can actually talk to.

There was a pawn shop in my town that had "We buy broken gold" on the sign. Someone changed it to "We buy broken dreams". It was gone by lunchtime, should have snapped that pic.

I like my 3/8, the head was a bit wider than I imagined it to be, but I really like the ratchet. The handle is kinda funky, but I got it in a set with a bunch of other stuff. I know it's a small thing, but I really appreciate the "On" and "Off" for the selector switch. I have a ton of different brand ratchets with different On and Off positions, and im always fiddling with them trying to figure out which direction is which My 3/8 came with 2 impact screwdrivers, a 8 piece "Bolt Biter" extractor socket set, and two of their Pitbull tongue and groove pliers for I think $70. Everywhere I've seen that ratchet it usually retails for $40-$50 alone, so I thought it was a good deal

I have looked at hand tools at some pawn shops around my area. I never find the deals you do, Cat. I have gotten along fine with my 72-tooth ratchets. The Tekton comfort grip version I bought is a 90 tooth, but I don’t use it much.

Catus Maximus thanks for giving your opinion on the gearwrench ratchets I've been debating on buying all gearwrench ratchets and getting rid of my other name brands because I've been hearing a lot of good things on KZbin from other channels as well talking about gearwrench ratchets.😀👍👍

As a tech I've been using that exact 3\8 ratchet daily and beat the hell out of it.Oil, break ckeaner, gas, throttle body cleaner water If you really bang some thing to tear part of the grip it doesn't spread and it's pretty dang hard to tear the grip. My matco comfort grip, grip doesn't hold up as long.

I have a couple of gearwrench ratchets that are 42 and 45 teeth that came with the basic set I bought at a parts store and I like them a lot. The 1/4 inch is my favorite and I'll grab it over the 3/8 inch every time.

I was under the impression that Gearwrench tools were made by Apex Tool Group, along with SATA, Halfords Advanced (UK), and a bunch of other brands, hence the similarities. I have a couple of those GW ratchets with the older red and black handles, and they've held up well. The handles are so similar to Snap-On comfort grips, though, that I wouldn't be surprised if GW got a cease-and-desist from Snappy, leading to the change of colour scheme.

The 84 tooth was replaced by 90 tooth. I believe the 72 tooth was replaced by the 84 tooth before that. Hence the different color as well when they changed design.

They still sell the 84 tooth ratchet, it was not replaced. They still have the roto ratchets as 72 tooth.

@@twinwankel they do not make the 84 tooth ratchets anymore, though there are still places that have stock of them still. I forgot about the roto ratchets.

I bought a 1/2 90t set from Amazon. The rachet has a completely different anvil, then my other 90t rachet. Very sloppy, you can spin the c clip with your finger. SMH
