I bought a 3/8 GearWrench socket set with one of the new 90 tooth ratchets. New out of the box it slipped in both directions even using your fingers. With your video, I was able to find out that the large gear was correct, but had a 72 tooth pawl installed in it. I even checked the GearWrench website and they used the same stock picture for the rebuild kits for the 84 tooth & 90 tooth ratchets. Next time I order some tools from Amazon, I will enter through your link. I know you get a small portion of the total when people do this and it doesn't cost me anything. Thanks for the in depth and informative video! I subscribed also. 😀

I do have some of the 120xp, but in the Box-end spline flex head with breaker fixed spline... Also the open end wrench with box-end fixed spline. These are in metric and great so far! I however; recently, picked up the 3 piece set of the 90t comfort grip in orange and locking flex heads. I'm very impressed with Gearwrench's new lineup of tools. They've been awesome and inspire to take on bigger jobs with confidence and sometimes ease! 👍

Great video coverage on a Gearwrench subject that no one else has made, in this detail! New subscriber after seeing how in depth this feature was. I just ordered the 90T set with all the 3 common drive sizes. I've never owned any comfort grip ratchets, so I'm excite for that and especially the locking flex head feature! I just got a nice deal at Ohio Power Tools; online, with a nice promo deal that gives you a free Crescent/Lufkin tools measuring tape, that retails for like 28$ . Promo ends till the end of January of 2021! It's like a great start to a new year! Thank you, and take care! 👍

I have a snap on 3/8 extended flex head ratchet. My favorite ratchet. I also have the snap on 1/4 comfort grip flex head. Havent used it enough to say how i really feel about it. So far i like it but need to use it more. I also have craftsman 1/4 and 1/2 74tooth that are very smooth, the ones with no button for socket release. Also have the husky 1/4-1/2 84t set that also came with the 3/8 and 1/2 extended flex head. All really good ratchets. When i first got the snap on one it was the locking flex and i didnt like the locking aspect so i switched it for non-locking. I have the husky metric locking flex head ratchet wrenches and again the locking part i dont like. All the locking stuff seems to lock when i dont want it to. When i first used any flex head i hated them, but when i got my snap on i fell in love with flex heads and use them more than fixed heads.

The only other thing I can think about as with the 180 position is that as the teeth on the pawls are bigger for the 60t it may not engage every position
@Fedwrench
@Fedwrench 3 жыл бұрын
Is the number of teeth on the pawl gear engaged with the drive gear the same on the both 84/90 tooth series? The redesigned gear cover on the 90 tooth series is a twin for the gear covers found on SATA ratchets. Makes me think the 90 tooth ratchet are assembled in Taiwan using parts from the SATA factory in China. I don't understand why the Gearwrench locking flex head design has so much forward and aft head movement when the Armstrong version locks much more securely (same type locking mechanism). Thanks for sharing.
@TonyTheTechnician
@TonyTheTechnician 3 жыл бұрын
I would have to disassemble the ratchets again to look at the pawls to see the tooth engagement for sure. And ya there is some movement in the head with it locked but it definitely is able to hold a strong position. I just don't think the tolerances are as tight and the helps in preventing binding as well trying to lock and unlock the head.

I like a rachet to ratchet. I own about 4 srag roller designs that have no backlash whatsoever. I don't really like them. It is reasuring to have a good click. The fine double pawl designs don't give me that. High tooth count is not important as long as they work like they do. I have no backlash sprag ratchets for that. A reassuring click lets me count down the threads, making sure no studs are pulling or nuts stripping out.
