It's funny you commented because I was actually going to contact you and see what your thoughts were. My snap on rep tells us that tap and dies are not under warranty... a few others have said the same as well. I could not find anything on the website about tap and dies about if they are under warranty or not. I will mention my findings in y next video on how so far it seems to be a dealer to dealer type of thing... my channel is not to throw shade at different tool brands as I feel that every tool brand has a tool 5hat has its place. Like to me theres one thing that no one could ever possibly change my mind on and that is that snap on has the best hane tools hands down... such as wrenches... sockets and ratchets... with snap on my gripe is the price of rebranded products...BUT!!! the hand tools are worth their weight in gold... sure you can get by with others but theres just something about the way a snap on wrench feels in the hand... theres so many people that want to argue about the flank drive and say it's a waste but I have personally semi rounded a fastener with one wrench and have put a flank drive on it and wass able to remove it... not on one or two occasions but multiple. Anyways, can you direct me to somewhere or something that states the warranty on your taps and dies... lol because once again if I'm wrong then I'm wrong.. I just figured that if I heard it from the horses mouth them it was true... the horses mouth being my dealer.

I just had a bunch of snap on taps and dies replaced under warranty, I called the 800 number for snap on gave them the part numbers and just like that brand new taps and dies. The funny thing is they don’t want the old ones back; when I had to warranty some picks and screwdrivers etc. they wanted me to return those before they sent new ones. So, ALOT of tools don’t necessarily need to be snap on but, there taps and dies are worth it. Also, if your route guy won’t warranty tools for you, which sometimes they won’t!! Call snap on, they will.

I tried to warranty a brand new thrx72, I went hard on a fsi exhaust bolt resulting in the locking mechanism not locking, just flopping. The rep said I had to prove original ownership for them to warranty it. With my Matco bfr158lfg I can unlock the ratchet to prevent what occured with the snap on but yeah I can unlock the snap on but will it stay unlocked(inferior design)? I took picture you could see the ratchet was new, I took video and offered to mail it to them. If the ratchet said Pittsburgh on it harbor freight would warranty it but I couldn't take that nice snap on ratchet to harbor freight to get it warranted for a Pittsburgh ratchet of I wanted to, let alone have Snap on warranty it. I wouldn't be so quick to praise snap on warranty, but to each his own.

Man I love gearwrench but that little "Lifetime warranty" has gotten me before. I love their chrome sockets and ratchets and ratchet wrenches but why stick that lifetime warranty label on something that is excluded from that warranty? For example this kit of the tap and dies. My personal bad experience with gearwrench, their torx bits or any bit sockets. I bought their torx and allen key sockets set and broke a torx on first use. Maybe it was it a defect? I wasn't too worried about it till I went to contact gearwrench and they told me the bits aren't parts of the warranty. The socket/driver that holds the bit is covered under warranty... how often have we had the socket/driver brake on a torx or allen key? Ive personally never have. I bought that set because I was confident it was "lifetime warranty"... now I see how shaddy they were at that instance. I want to by more gearwrench but the fear of them having more loop holes and shaddy warranties is why I have to keep sticking by the tool truck(snap on)

But it's my go to ratchet. I've loosened lug nuts with the 3/8ths 11inch ratchet. I like the quick release button, switch has a definite click in fwd and reverse. Only thing I think can be improved on it, is a slip resistant grip. You know what happens when oil and chrome or oil and antifreeze get together. Now I do like the 120xp 1/4in ratchet but that's only because it's a long handle 1/4in ratchet and tekton doesn't make a long handle 1/4in ratchet. At least when I looked I couldn't find one.

I was walking through Lowes the other day and noticed their crappy import files. No different than the junk metal cutting tools that most people buy, including Gearwrench. Ask me how I know. The Kobalt packaging said the files had a lifetime warranty. Obviously the warranty covered manufacturing defects, not the tool wearing out or being misused. I checked with the store. That's how it is with any metal cutting tool, especially one sold on a retail level. This isn't GW misleading the costumer; it's Bruce being too dim and inexperienced to understand the warranty.

I do some research on every tool I purchase, and gearwrench always makes it into my top cuts, even at their full Sears retail. I should also point out though that I've shopped around and gotten really good deals on their products- way below the prices Sears wants. Just today I found out that my advance auto parts store is closing out the brand and got 50% off their metric and sae 7 piece stubby ratchet wrench sets. Love the brand, but pour research into every tool purchase and you'll never have buyers' remorse over a little marketing stunt like that (not that you should over a gearwrench product- in this case, your warranty meets industry standards and you can replace your taps elsewhere if you're not happy with the quality in your non-warranty pieces)

Snap off still warranties their taps and dies. I broke two of those brittle blue point taps and my Snap on guy replaced them. If Snap on doesn't warranty those pieces of rebranded Irwin garbage, no one would buy them. Apparently Snap on stopped warrantying drill bits and then later changed their mind. I've turned in two broken blue point bits in the last year or so. In both cases you just have to break them. If Snap off don't warranty these kinds of consumables, I'm not going to pay double for an index of rebranded thunderbits. As for Gearwrench, I do make an effort to avoid buying from them. Given the assholes (Bain Capital) who currently own Apex tool group, I see a lot of cost cutting and quality going downhill with their brands.

I had the smaller Gearwrench 7pc MM and SAE reversible ratchet combination sets made in Taiwan that I absolutely loved and used for almost 2 decades. I touted these things, but gave them to the son n law as I purchased, through the Home Depot site, the 16 and 13Pc complete sets for myself last Christmas. The new sets are China made, missing the o ring on ratchet side that keep wrench on fastener, have a clunkier feel to ratchet motion and are inconsistent to the 15 degree offset throughout both sets. They came filthy, scratched and dinged up. Disappointing but as long as they work I figure. The kicker is both sets had two wrenches with bent beams in them. So I call HD but they are sold out but are happy to refund if I choose. Im thinking, but I have a lifetime warranty and this has to fall under factory defects as they got through their quality control for whatever reason. I call Gearwrench to see what hoops are necessary to warranty out and am informed since I did not buy from them directly, it's the retailers warranty policy that takes over? WTF? Long story short, HD stepped up as I don't think they wanted this mess back, discounted the price so drastically for me to keep them that I felt bad to keep them. That is until I tried to use one and it failed to ratchet. The sets reside in the 'bucket of shame' as this is where I keep tools that I am willing to lend. Since talking to GWs customer service rep, I've gone the route of using company brands that actually stand behind their tools and not just look for loop holes to trick people out of their money. I've replaced my own personal sets with another brand. Through these I've added more tools from this new brand. If you have Gearwrench and like them, good on you and I hope they continue to serve you well. They will never see another dime from me and maybe the future generations who have borrowed from the bucket. I've lost many tools from the bucket, but the GW always come back, lol. I love tools, they can make a job easier for sure. But I always lecture and show that it's the knowledge and skill of the user more so than the brand of the tool in his hand that gets the job done correctly. Stay safe.

Even people who haven’t seen your video have probably been fooled. It’s on GW to make it more clear. They’re the ones who’re causing their own problems and pissing people off. I don’t understand why they would intentionally try to bait someone with that tag, then piss them off when they try to get a tap replaced. Is selling a single tool more important than building trust and making lifetime fans?

haha when i make a mistake... lol Like i told the other guys Ive been seeing these sets going around on the internet, even at 180 way over priced and the ratchet well who needs a ratchet tap n die lol okay for a DIY guy i guess but for professional usage the build quality isn't up to par.... snapage! the set is probably worth 100 bucks, THANKS MAN

Well. I was becoming a gear wrench fan. Now. I change my mind. I gotta make my move to tekton
@craigjorgensen46375 жыл бұрын
Miguel Garcia why? If you break a tap, die or drill bit be a big boy and pay for a replacement . They shouldn’t be warranties in the First place!

Honest mistake, we forgive you sir. Here I was taking all kinds of heat on the last video for being critical of GW. Apparently they deserve it

Are the tap set popping on KZbin legit, or bs? Because the price is cheap as hell. Anyone purchase tools from Letzor? Are they legit?
