greeat review Logan, thnx! blade rup is not only a damage on the blade it is also a damage on the backspring. i am a big fan of GEC knives, the best serial knives for the money imo, but i am far away from being a fanboy, i will always talk about obvious and typical flaws or imperfections of patterns/ runs and i will always be critical. with the intention to make great knives better, we should let GEC know what experiances we make with their knives.

I have the 2018 model in the red linen micarta and agree, it is a beautiful shade of red very lustery, smooth yet stays put in-hand. I have not yet experienced rap in a Case knife in 30 tries or so and only one GEC in about the same. I've been lucky so far. On the other hand I have several Case that have blade rub as well as a couple GEC's. Let's not even get started about old Queens. Blade rub is almost as frustrating.

They were ~$65 from KSF and CollectorKnives, but other places had them around $80, then some in the $120-$140 range (which I wouldn’t pay).

You can go to ebay right now and get a number 15 for over 500 dollars. I believe the gec thing is a racket for the anointed few with the time and money to get one. If something is almost always sold out before being released to the general public something shadey is going on.

2018 is more of a burgundy than red a better shade than the 2021 release IMO,I have both and prefer the 2018 knife.

Couldn't agree more about blade rap (although blade wobble annoys me more) - it's just shoddy finishing. My 2018 #71 has blade rap, but I live with it. I'm hoping on a green #71 from the current release, and your example is giving me cause to hope! But for a man with an aversion to proud tips, what say you about the sharp exposed edges on the pivot which is a feature on this pattern? I honestly thought my #71 was flawed until I found out it's supposed to be like that.

Obviously i dont "like" blade rap but if i get a knife with it the only time its a huge problem imo is when it actually dents your blade, if it just rolls a small spot im "ok" with it but when it dents the blade and i have to remove a ton of material to get it out thats a no no

I can’t imagine how frustrating it would be if you can’t be on your phone. My work allows me to be on my phone (a reasonable amount) when needed for much of the day, though when I teach I don’t check my phone and have missed knives that way.

Carbon steel is very bad for cut fruit and food. Why don't replace it by stainless steel ?

I’d rather have the taller blade with a touch of blade rap that I can sharpen out myself than a dwarf blade like Case.

If the secondary market weren't so outrageous blade rap would be completely forgivable. GECs need to be absolutely flawless though because the mark-up is often 500% and I've seen it go as high as 1600%. "you can't blame GEC for that" I hear you say, well I blame them 100%. They have been instigating this awful secondary market for more than a decade now and they could easily fix it in a number of ways, but they don't. GEC blade rap is completely unforgiveable. Disgusting.

I don’t know, but I’d imagine they’d be pretty irritated if they bought a knife, used it once, closed it as it’s meant to be closed, and realized the edge had damage and it would need significant resharpening to work as intended.

No i think they had some real life problems and blade rap anf f&f is not one of them. I'm sure they just used the knife as it was.

@@אלכסס-ח5ג My point exactly. I collect vintage pocket knives from the early 1940's. and 50's. It's extremely hard to find one never used, but on occasion I do. These are the type of knives that Bill Howard at GEC creates his patterns after. They were tough as nails knives, most have some blade rap ever so slightly, that were beautifully made but intended to be working tools for men who were tough as hell bastards that I'm certain gave blade rap not a seconds thought. They were to damn busy building this country. They definitely didn't take the time to care if their knife could cut a piece of white paper cleanly.

@@KnifeThoughts Case sod buster is still around 30 bucks. For you that gec is 62 dollars, but for us mere mortals its over 100 on the secondary market.
