Awesome video! My bass teacher uses one of these and when I become decent I want one too. You've really helped me see the difference between the different types.

Thanks for sharing. I totally agree with you. I have Japan and MIM versions and both are great basses. A big surprise to me, when you show that red one version. I knew about the USA black one, but not that red beauty. I'm jealous of you. Haha. Grretings from Puerto Rico.

Awesome video dude. Really wanted one of the red ones. Had the opportunity but the wofe intervened.I have a Japanese one but not crazy on the thin neck. The pickups on the American were designed to replicate Geddys. The pickups on Geddys 72 were found to be defective, or so I read. All the best.

Hello, very nice presentation ! One thing that I'm wondering about : does US and Mex headstock have the same thickness ? (as on usual STD models, US headstocks are thicker)

Good comparison dude just found a slightly used Mexican for 1100 they are asking for used Japanese at 1200 I am no pro but the difference in works man ship should be the same it’s all about quality control like you mentioned about having bad basses form all 3 countries.

9:04 - 9:14 when you see Geddy playing the model with the pearl pickguard and the white/pearl neck, that's still the original 1972 "number one" Jazz. He just changed the pickguard and neck on it.

Im not sure that bass youre talking about was ALWAYS his 72. He has fender custom shop basses that look just like that one, complete with the relic’d wear on them. I know bc i saw multiple ones that look exactly like it on his bass rack. On tour generally had 4-5 black ones, the red one which he rarely played, the green one from the yes hall of fame show, and a couple other random ones. I don’t think you can really tell for sure live which one is actually the original 72.

Did you ever do the GED 2112?
@trenken Жыл бұрын
That red one i barely associate with geddy. He very rarely played it with that pickguard, then he had it removed and also rarely played that one. All i can think of was circumstances on the snakes and arrows tour. Also, i could be wrong but im not sure he ever played one of his factory made basses live. I know he played fender custom shop basses so theres a chance he just stuck to those. Hes name dropped the custom shop in interviews before. Those are much more expensive than the production basses.

why are people always so reluctant to play the damn things?

Right. They are built to be played. And they sound so good

The American one is better... but is it a thousand dollars better?
@2002nkpB6 жыл бұрын
Dave Garry yes.
@bacicinvatteneaca4 жыл бұрын
Generally kind of yes, but exclusively because the Mexican ones are kept intentionally low quality to push people to buy the more expensive ones. Otherwise, you could easily get comparable quality out of that lower price.
@nberrios7773 жыл бұрын
The American has a cleaner sound and has higher quality parts. It is worth the extra $.
@charlie-obrien8 ай бұрын
Geddy Lee paid 200 dollars for his at a pawn shop. Extra money doesn't always mean a better instrument. Get both the USA and Mexican in your hands and you might see they aren't all that different.
