I hear your point, but artists make art, that's why they live. Tony Iommi lost fingertips and still created Black Sabbath with some friends. Don't fault ones pain if they NEED to make something epic in honoring a friend. Honestly, I would expect nothing less from them. Make your music Canadians, I'll throw my money at you!

Even in retiring, Neil Peart is awesome. Can't play to his own high standard? Well that's it, then, done. No talking him out of it. That is why Rush, unlike other older bands, never sucked, because Neil and his bandmates never slacked off or phoned it in, always gave a hundred percent. There was nothing like a Rush show for those of us fortunate enough to see them live.

Oh the history......marking my own life since 1978. That's when I herd 2112 and decided the KISS I'd been fascinated with was child's play. Lyrics that inspired me to think more deeply. Music that moved my soul, and concerts that became a reunion with old friends for 35 years. Loosing Niel Peart was my John Lennon, or Elvis. God bless those guys. RUSH. You have enriched my life. Musically, philosophically, and intellectually.

Interesting how they were able to hide from the public ..... Neil's fight with cancer. Obviously at the time of this interview he knew Neil's condition and you can see and hear in his voice the reluctance to stay on that subject for very long, out of respect for his band-mate. Just really sad ......

Geddy knew that Neil had cancer and he kept it to himself, respected his bandmate and handled it in a very classy manner. I mean he already knew that Rush as the trio was done by that point and he kept a straight face. I think that we will see Geddy and Alex play together, but not as Rush. The greatest rock band of all time. No one comes near their total combined musicianship, which includes lyrical composition. No one sounded better live. No one put more thought and care into their live performances. No one knew..........I would personally LOVE to see Geddy and Alex get Taylor Hawkins or Portnoy or even Grohl to man the drum kit and play small venues playing both new music and selected Rush tunes. B Sides.........Hats off to Neil, , he deserves to go out the way he wants to go out. They were completely blown off by the masses and critics until those people woke up and realized what the devout followers of this band had been saying all along. Now Rush is revered globally and cited as main influences by most named musicians out there. All I want for Christmas is to see them play shows again.

Man, Geddy Lee has done a ton of press lately. i know that he is promoting and pitching his new book. But we have seen and heard him on like every radio and internet platform in the last week. Ultimately, the discussion always goes in the direction of status of Rush, Neil Peart and his relationship/future work with Alex. So we get a lot of repeat questions and similar answers. I've got to say though that if you want an interview that is totally different and kind of independent from these standard interviews, check out the one he did a few days about with Canada's 'CBC' network. The radio show is called, 'Q'. Check it out. The interviewer really knows his stuff. Plus, he doesn't ask the usual, standard questions posed at every aging musician that is wrapping up his working career. Check it out. .Geddy Lee of CBC's, 'Q', radio show. The video is on KZbin if you want to watch the video that goes along with the radio show.

Geddy makes a fantastic point when talking about the union of player and instrument. You can have your mind set on getting a particular bass but end up disappointed because it feels horrible in your hands. But then you pick up a different brand of bass that you haven't even considered and it completely synergizes with you as if it was made only for you, and it had been waiting for you since the moment of its creation. It's just a magic moment.

As a major and serious Rush fan, my hats off to Neil making such a huge and personal decision. If I can project my hope, Getty and Alex would make some beautiful noise with a completely different sound than their history. Maybe adding in other great musicians who would contribute to a different sound. maybe something more bluesy or more acoustic in their music. I can see (hear) drummers like Stewart Copeland, Jason Bonham, or even a number of jazz percussionist etc... That is my hope and they succeed in their history of music.

I only saw RUSH once way back in Feb. of 1975 in Indianapolis right after the release of Fly by Night, in fact I can still remember Geddy introducing the song Fly by Night and saying we were the first in the USA to hear it live, they actually opened for Rod Stewart back then and I remember we got there late and as we walked in they were doing What You're Doing and I still get chills thinking about it.

So much respect for Geddy, Alex, and Neil. All very gracious and patient with repetitive questions. I’m satisfied to have seem RUSH 4 times (1988, 1994, 2007, & 2008) the last of which was from the 10th row. I wish them all the best!

Yeah, Alex and Geddy were cool as heck. They would hang around after shows, meet and talk to fans. Neil is great drummer and lyricist, but he is a Dick. He would leave immediately after shows to avoid fans. Yes his wife died and it is terrible, but he took off for how long, and nearly destroyed Rush, now he has done it again!? Get another drummer and tell Neil to go to hell.

Oh Ok, Geddy, go and make the music. If you and Alex still got it in you, and you feel that people will still care then go ahead and do it. Everyone else, get off of Neil P's back. The guy played his Goddamned heart out (and probably destroyed his body) for us fans for 40+ years!! If there is people out there hoping and wishing and praying that Neil comes back, please don't. Enough already. If he is really retired, THEN HE'S RETIRED!! GET OVER IT!!!!

@@davidtx8777 Certain selfish fans that don't realize how taxing touring and playing can be on the body as you age. We were lucky that Neil even wanted to come back after what happened to him in 1997. I never got the chance to see Rush live and that's okay, they got over 40 years worth of music to listen to and they have live concerts films.

Neil wrote "Losing It" in 1983, so he had many years to think about his skills eventually waning. He also had the line in "Dreamline", one of my favorites of all Peart's lyrics: "Learning that we're only immortal for a limited time."

I can track the course of my life by the forward march of RUSH albums... It's sad to hear that Mr. Peart has retired but I must respect his decision. In a world full of duplicity and the pursuit of fame it's good to see that occasionally a person, a truly self-made man, holds himself to a higher standard. While I'm sure they are disappointed, It also impresses me that Mr. Lifeson and Lee graciously respect his decision without internal rancor or public regret. Thank you RUSH for a solid lifetime of memories.
