Great video! Your tutorial was spot on, I found it really easy to follow. As a side note, I have the same projector and my original lamp reminder hit a couple weeks ago after 7500 hours. I use “game” mode. I find the brightness to be better and I’m not sure if that had something to do with how long the lamp lasted or not but I couldn’t be happier with the setup. Thanks again!

Thank you, @patrickorourke5143! I'm happy to hear that it went well! The HD27 is rock solid. I am 4000 hours since my last bulb, and I'm considering getting one just to improve the brightness. I had to replaced my color wheel as well. If your color wheel ends up going out, we made a video for that also! Thanks, again!

It's really nice to have that new, more bright screen! Our bulb is still going strong since filming this video, however our color wheel did fail.. if your colors start to look a bit off, it might be an indication of that. We did a video on that as well 😊

Thank you! It took us forever to find an oem bulb for it. It's been doing well, but ironically our color wheel finally went 200 hours after installing the new bulb. I'm guessing maybe it was because the new bulb runs a little warmer than the old one and the color wheel was probably near end of life. So we made a video on that, too, and It's back up and running. Thanks for the feedback!

I just did this with the bulb he linked to and it worked. My old bulb actually popped/ruptured, so there was broken glass and some marring of the "lense" in the housing. I buffed it clean with lense cleaner and a microfiber cloth. Thankfully the performance seems unaffected. All is good. Thanks.

Thanks for this helpful video! I actually own an HD27HDR but the overall design and lamp housing are nearly identical to the HD27. It's my third Optoma projector; the first one I owned was a HD70 (720p) purchased in 2006/7 and the original lamp lasted for somewhere between 5000-6000 hours, rated at 2000/3000 ECO. I replaced the lamp and then the color wheel went out, which I was able to replace as well. It finally gave up the ghost and I bought a HD131Xe in 2014. The lamp on that lasted over 10,000 hours, rated @ 3,500/6,000 ECO. It actually still works with an replacement lamp but I was getting a pixelated horizontal and vertical bar in the upper left-hand corner indicating something was going wrong with most likely the DLP chip. So I replace it with the HD27HDR, which while not a native 4K projector accepts 4K input, and supports HDR10. The lamp on it lasted for over 17,000 hours before I just replaced it - it never burned out! And that was on Dynamic Brightness and not ECO mode. I run the projector constantly when I'm home, and it's my opinion (anecdotally of course) is that turning on and off the projector frequently is what shortens lamp life. Regardless, I too am of fan of Optoma's projectors.

Thanks, my friend! Overall, it's more affordable when it comes to achieving that theatre feel. Colors are more accurate than most flat panels. We will likely upgrade to 4K at some point. This is a 1080p projector, but it was super affordable and the contrast ratio is great, especially at night 😄

Thanks for this Eric, I just bought 1 2nd hand for £150, only 520 hours bulb life used, veey Happy with quality of this projector and just thought I would have a look to see how easy it was for when I need a bulb replaced, I have hooked up a surround sound system using a 5.1 Bluetooth dongle, just wish I had a little more space where I use as a get about 90 inch screen size from about 8ft away, would also be nice if it had a shift lamp to angle from corner to centre rather than having to use it in a straight line from projector to screen, but I think a got a absolute bargain for the price I paid, love it, Thanks again Eric very helpful Video.

Perfect! Glad to hear it was helpful and that you found an amazing deal on the projector. Unfortunately my color wheel just went out on me after 150 hours on the new bulb so I’m working on replacing it tonight and making a video on that. It’s actually not too terribly hard to replace it. Apparently the marking tape falls off the color wheel after many hours of use. This has been the best of the 3 projectors I’ve owned and we love it. Thank you!

Perfect timing on this video. I just ordered a new one for my optima hd27. Mine exploded for some reason - do you know why? Also how would someone know if they need the lamp + housing or lamp only? I just purchased both to be safe. Great video btw!
@EricCosner3 жыл бұрын
Hello Shant W! There can be a number of reasons the bulb exploded. It can happen near the end of a bulb's life as the arc lengthens and the bulb's ballast supplies the bulb with more voltage, or it could be a problem with the projector. The lamp and housing is generally easier to install but more costly. I was unable to find a Phillips brand bulb with a housing. I didn't mention in the video, but I had ordered a generic one with a housing but I felt like I was sent a used one because it was really dim and I returned it. Best of luck with your new bulb. I'm very happy that the video has already helped! Thank you!!

Given that the bulb ruptured, that was a smart move getting a new housing. . .just to be safe.

Hi Eric, can you take the lamp out while the projector hanging up side down? Or you have to place the projector down first? thank you
@scoff6355 Жыл бұрын
I was able to take out and reinstall the lamp while my projector was still mounted on the ceiling. Actually I think it was easier to unscrew the lamp housing and have it hang from the power wires and then disconnected it then it would be to disconnected the wires first - I tried that and it's a very tight fit to get fingers into the opening. I wouldn't rely on the wires to hold the weight of the lamp without some support, but it didn't pull/fall out on me.

Hey how has this bulb held up so far? Since it's not an OEM original. What do you think of the colors/brightness and is it still alive lol?
@EricCosner3 жыл бұрын
Hello Molly! So our bulb is working great! It’s probably about 90% as bright as when we first installed it which is typical of a new bulb. Ironically after we installed it, our color wheel went within 2 weeks. I have another video on replacing that. If you have any other questions, please let me know. Thank you!

@@EricCosner thanks for the answer! I just bought a used Optoma EH 501 from Ebay and from the pictures and description it says it has 6600+ hours on the lamp so I was tempted to change the lamp. Do you think the color wheel was effected by the "off brand" bulb you bought or maybe since you didnt change the whole casing coild it have affected it? Thanks a lot
@EricCosner3 жыл бұрын
@@mollyscullyscully80 I think the color wheel was already nearing failure and having a newer bulb resulted in slightly more heat and accelerated the process. It was actually the index tape on the color wheel that was brittle and started to crumble and fall to pieces. The bulb I ordered appears to be an OEM and it’s been fine ever since I replaced the color wheel. I have a separate video on the color wheel replacement. It’s been rock solid since we replaced both. We did order a bulb with housing before we ordered the stand alone bulb but that bulb seemed like it was used and immediately said lamp failure. I don’t think that would have affected the color wheel. The issue with the color wheel is the index tape they use seems to degrade.
@EricCosner3 жыл бұрын
@@mollyscullyscully80 again thank for the question! Here is the color wheel video. It might be worth replacing when you have everything apart, but it’s probably a 50% chance it’ll be fine if you don’t. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3bcqKmcfpmNnq8 and actually my bad after watching the first 20 seconds of that I can tell you the color wheel was failing before our bulb failed 😄

So, you have had your projector for 4 years and are only replacing the bulb now? Or did I mistake that? I have had my projector for a month, two at most. It made this popping sound that scared the hell out of me and the bulb light turned red and the power button flashed red. No warning of the lamp exceeding a set amount of hours. Just a very loud pop. Is that normal? Because if it is not I I'm not sure if I want install my brand new bulb just yet? Any thoughts?
@EricCosner3 жыл бұрын
I did have mine for 4 years without problems, however the bulb was getting very dim. Usually a loud sound from a projector would indicate the bulb exploded, however I suppose it could be something else. Usually if the bulb explodes you would hear the shards of glass inside it moving when you move the projector. The only other thing I could think of us maybe a plastic clip snapped when the projector heated up. If it was a new projector, it would be unusual for the bulb to go after a month unless it perhaps it couldn't adequately cool itself. Usually original bulbs tend to go for thousands of hours anymore, but it's possible yours could have had a defect of some sort. :(

The lamp replacement has been doing well. I checked recently and we are at 800 hours since replacing it. Oddly, my color wheel failed about 100 hours after replacing the bulb and we did a video on that as well. @@EricCosner I had this same issue with a bulb I got on Amazon. During replacement I realized the wattage was wrong, but installed anyway. It worked well for a couple weeks, but then started powering down and having weird glitches with certain color settings. After 6 weeks it didn't power up again. Today I am researching bulbs to fix it and came across your video, I'm sorry to read you're having similar problems. On amazon one bulb I was considering a customer also had a colorwheel issue, replaced it, but had the same problems, he put in the original bulb and it was fine. He eventually got a replacement OEM bulb (but didn't say the model or where he found it grrr!) and had no issues. He was curious and put back in the original color wheel , and it worked just as new. I suspect that you did not get an actual OEM model... and should mention your link is a missing page at this point. My old bulb's stamp says it is a Top UHP Phillips 00005580 but doing a search on that, I can't find the 190/160w version on any English speaking website and the Mexican site had it for 400+ dollars. My original bulb also has a sticker with specs and a QR code, but the sticker is damaged so the link does not work. it says: 477/59 190/160w 0.8 748Y132A 09050 6M 23.72J15G001A Other than the wattage this seems like gibberish, but thought someone here might make sense of it. If you have the original bulb and can scan the QR, it might help us all find the actual bulb or it's modern equivalent. I'm currently waiting on responses from dealers and from the reviewer that fixed his colorwheel issue with a new bulb hoping to find the correct model. This really shouldn't be this difficult, I'll update as I learn more. Thanks for your information.

We're still on the second bulb and it's actually decently bright! It's amazing how much better these bulbs hold up compared to back in the day with previous projectors I've owned. I'm on vacation right now or I would check the bulb hours, but so far so good. If you do replace it, you may want to consider doing the color wheel. Our failed shortly after the replacement. The "index" kind of crumbled and if and when that happens you'll notice the colors doing odd things. We did a video on that as well., but so far so good on both. Sorry for the late reply! 😊

@EricCosner2 жыл бұрын
I don't remember a filter, but maybe yours is different. If you can remove it, you could try compressed air and maybe water, however, I would strongly recommend doing that away from the projector. Dust particles could land on the DLP and cause dead pixels or possibly other optical issues. I did another video where I replaced the color wheel where I tore it down further. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3bcqKmcfpmNnq8
