One of the best final fight scenes of the year, shame about the rest of the film, uneven tone, lame villains (except for one) and some poor pacing hinders action that is at times brilliantly inventive and uniquely thrilling, especially with how they use the drones in some fights. Telling ya James as far as zany, over the top martial arts action movies of the spring go, you can’t beat “One Percenter” yet.

That movie was fuckin awesome. Last fight with the RAID guy was amazing.

Sorry, but looking at Bill S., I keep seeing the Scary Clown from "It." I don't like too much comedy in martial arts action movies, but one I did like was "Kick Ass." Is anyone looking forward to Bill S. in the upcoming "Crow" remake?

This is The Crow remake. They just changed the name cause of internet backlash.

Did you see this movie at home or in a theater with others? If you saw it with other people, and no one laughed, also, then it wasn’t just you - the movie ain’t funny.

I just left the theatre. I really wanted to like this film. However, I found myself laughing more at it than with it. Can imagine it being infinitely better if I was stoned to death, or high.

Here me out. “Challengers” may be this year’s “Holdovers,” for me. Meaning, it’s a human drama that’s a close second to the special effects blockbuster spectacle (i.e. Dune: Part Two). My Top Ten List of 2024 (subject to change): Monkey Man Late Night with the Devil Civil War Love Lies Bleeding Challengers Dune: Part Two

I enjoyed this movie. And the actor who played mad dog in "the raid", as the shaman is good. He is final boss material. In the raid, he, imo, takes part in one of the best fights ever put to film. He's so good as mad dog. Yes, boy kills world is a bit silly. But I enjoyed it overall. 7½/10

The trailer kinda looks like they were trying to make a cheesy grind house (Kill Bill) movie. They should have gone all in with the graphic violence. Maybe pay homage to the kung fu movies of the 70s and 80s with off balance dubbing.

That's exactly what the movie is. Sooo many of the reviews act like or give the impression that its something other than that. It isn't perfect by any means, its a fun time. Definitely not to be taken seriously. Just go and have fun. It is very violent. Graphically violent.

I thought the actor was Tom Brady when I first saw the trailer.

I feel like they marketed this movie very poorly, which is a shame because the premise seems really neat

Do you prefer this or Bullet Train? Your Stellan Skarsgard impression is spot-on.

It’s Zendaya’s year. She will likely be in two films nominated for Best Picture of the Year.

I very much doubt it in case of Challengers. Not good enough.

Wait, James...are you a Kung Fu Theater kid? Respect for mentioning a classic. Have a great weekend and thanks for the review

I know this not a popular opinion, but I am so over these one-man army, invincible hero films. Without even going to these pictures, I can already predict that the good guy will win and barely get a scratch. What I am not tired of though is listening to your reviews, James. I appreciate that you keep it real while always trying to offer some pros and cons, when possible. Have an awesome weekend, sir!

I mean isn’t that every action movie since die hard 40 years ago lol

@@Anthonycheesman33 - Yea, that's why I am over it. Loved 'em as a kid when they were dark and gritty like Dirty Harry or Deathwish or when they had their tongue planted in their cheek like Faceoff or Commando. Now, far too often, modern action films play it too safe to be gritty and they lack the self-awareness to laugh at their own absurdities.

Yes, save your money or go see Godzilla x Kong for a fourth time. Its the only way to be guaranteed a good time at the theater till the Wolverine & Deadpool movie drops.
