You guys asked why they were stopped for hugging. Golden temple is not a picnic spot. The sole purpose of going there is to feel and be part of the divine which reside in all of us. But because of our daily lives/routines we have completely forgotten that part of our existence. Just to remember there is another dimension of life throbbing within us people go to golden temple or any other temple. If you go there and keep doing what you were doing outside of temple than there is no point going in.

I really appreciate what both you are doing to learn and share about Sikhism. What this video was missing was translation of what was going on. A picture does say a thousand words, but knowing the who, what, when, where and why about the Golden Temple and listening to the glorious hymns, just calms and soothes your soul. In Sikhism, being one with everyone/everything and being kind to everyone/everything will eventually lead you to God.... no matter which prophet you choose to follow. Guru Nanak Dev Ji said that if you take out the ego of man, all there is left is God.

The Golden Temple is also referred to as "Darbar Sahib” or “Harmandar Sahib", and is one of the oldest worship places for the Indian Sikh. It is located in Amritsar, Punjab. 2. The entire top of the temple is made of pure gold, adding to the beauty of the temple. 3. The temple is surrounded by a manmade lake that boasts a lot of exotic fish in it. To get to the temple, you will literally have to walk on water. 4. The temple is entered from four different sides to show openness and acceptance. 5. The temple was initially built without any gold coating. It is during the reign of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the ruler of Punjab in the early 19th century that the temple went under full renovation and made into what it is today. 6. Before the temple was built, the first Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Nanak, used to meditate at the site. It was not until the fifth Guru, Guru Arjana that the temple was built. 7. The manmade lake around the temple is known as 'Amrit Sarovar' which is translated as ‘Pool of Holy Nectar’. 8. The temple is considered holy such that 35% of the pilgrims that visit it are from faiths other than Sikh. 9. The Langar at the Golden temple serves up to 200,000 people during special religious events. Amazingly, all the food served are donations from faithful. 10. With hand painted mosaics and patterns, the Golden temple is one of the most significant symbols of Mughal and Indian architectural genius.

Hey guys. I know this is an old video but I just subscribed so sorry for the delayed comment. I just wish to add one information while we on the topic of Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple). Just beside the Harmandir Sahib, is a place called Jalianwala Bagh, which is actually a garden with walls on all sides. This is where the Jalianwala Bagh Massacre of 1919 happened. Brigadier-General Dyer ordered his troops to open fire on a large gathering of unarmed people who had assembled to celebrate the festival of "Baisakhi". A large number of people were thus killed. The place, though not a very happy place so as to say, is still a very important landmark in the Indian freedom struggle. And hence, it also figures on the tourism map. Loved your reaction video! And just wanted to add this piece of information. Cheers!

It is truly an incredible and magical place. Serene and peaceful to the maximum. I remember the first time I saw a picture of the temple was during school from my textbook. The picture wasn't even clear, but I fell in love. I could finally visit 2 years ago. It was lot more peaceful than I could ever imagine. I spend almost a whole day just sitting near the sarovar. You can visit regardless of religion u believe. There are some rules - no footwear, cover your head, but that's it. Be respectful. Also visit the area attached to the temple where they serve food. You will see and feel the true meaning of being one as human. Truly magical, peaceful beyond comparison. Would love to go there every year if I could. Or just live in Amritsar so I can spend every day there.

This video didn't show clearly, but the moment you enter the golden temple, you can hear the enchanting kirtan(prayers) from the main temple and that makes you so relaxed. And the whole area is considered a temple, because even tho there is one big one in the middle with shri guru granth sahib(holy book of sikhs), but there are also prayers going on around, all around the sarovar(the pond). There are numerous holy books located throught the gurudwara(correct word for a sikh temple), which is why you have to be respectful. Also there is a huge Langar hall, where they serve free food day and night non-stop. Golden temple in average feeds 50-60k people everyday and someday it goes upto 100,000. One of best days to visit is Bandi Shod Divas(same day as Diwali). They decorate the entire temple even more and its very crowded.

The main area of temple is golden part. On the side there are some rooms to sit and pray . But the whole part or area is counted in golden temple.

The entire area is part of Golden temple, also called Harmandir sahib which literally means God's abode. The water body is called 'Sarovar'. It is considered to be holy water and devotees come and take dip in the water. People believe it has powers to cure. The perimeter outside the Sarovar is called 'Parikrama'. The white buildings in parikrama all serve a purpose. There are smaller temples in it, places to keep baggage, place where you can give offerings, place where you receive 'Prasad'. Akal Takht is in Parikrama too which holds significant power to decide on matters of religious importance, There is also a large community kitchen in 'Parikrama' which is open 24*7 and it serves free food to anyone who comes. In the Parikrama, which is square in shape, all four corners serve free drinking water to people all day Long. The inner building, sanctum sanctorium, is the main part of temple where Kirtan is performed. It's open for people of all religion and genders. Yes Men with spears were guards. There are many guards in the perimeter taking care of people in temple. For tourists, kids etc who think of Sarovar as swimming pool, are too loud, haven't covered their heads, are littering etc these guards go to them and explain what's to be done. So in general, they are rule enforcers. The place has been giving food for body and soul (in form of Gurbani kirtan) all day everyday for centuries. In India PDA at public places, specially religious places is not appreciated. It's not that touching isn't allowed strictly but It's a place of worship and not a tourist place. Many people have sacrificed their lives in temple over the centuries, Many people come here to fulfill their life's desires, to find hope in despair. As a mark of respect it's advisable to not get too cozy. Also it's not advisable to wear revealing clothes. Head covers are mandatory for everyone who wants to go to temple. Ideally dont hug, kiss in any Indian place of worship.

People In india will Love Seeing A Foreigner Wearing An Indian Outfit ❤️❤️

We're usually happy when we see westerners trying out our outfits! The reason they're staring is probably because western tourists in India mostly stick to t-shirts/tank tops and shorts (and carry ridiculously huge cameras and backpacks) :P
