I’ve been waiting a while now too. And I’m still not fully impressed when they do update to 2.1 as it still won’t have native support for tvOS. No HUE app integration directly with the TV - LG, Sony, etc.
@Bendersnatchling10 ай бұрын
@@ahoyskidyou can always fix that with any streaming stick. I guess you are having in mind Netflix or Disney plus and those will all run in every Chromecast, or fire tv stick.
@ahoyskid10 ай бұрын
@@Bendersnatchling it’s just messy. I want a clean set up. TV to AVR. No switching or splitting HDMIs. But yes. There are many ways to work around it, some better than others for sure. It’s just a pity it can’t be done natively within LG webOS because of licensing & brand guidelines. Hardware wise, it’s fully capable especially the CX or newer when talking LG. I’d prefer to pay a license fee. Keep things simple. Just makes more sense to me personally. Not in a rush to pick up a sync box or any other obsolete piece of hardware. For Apps Plex etc, PC is fine. Yes, a refined experience with built in API would be amazing. But I won’t hold my breath.

Having a hdmi 2.1 capable TV and console, the limitations of the sync box are becoming ever more apparent. To me personally, it just seems like philips have given up on the syncbox and are doing nothing to improve the experience without customers needing to jank together workarounds. It's almost 5 years and they have not bothered updating the sync box or at least decreasing the sync box price since. At this point, I'm starting to question whether or not the lights are worth the hassle for such a high barrier of entry to get this all to work.
@SeanLazer10 ай бұрын
Yeah I was thinking about buying this but this all seems like a massive hassle.
@insertnamehere872310 ай бұрын
@SeanLazer don't get me wrong, when it works, it works great. Otherwise, the setup process can be a pain in the ass in addition to the price of all the components and the aforementioned limitations - and thst isn'tgetting into voice assistant integration issues at times. Just as a side, for some reason, I get intermittent cutouts from the sync box and have to reset it by turning it on and off. If I didn't know better, it is like they are trying to push customers to their ambilight TVs, but I'm not gonna give up my objectivley superior TV for bias lighting. No way!
@stevenvanpelt48610 ай бұрын
@@SeanLazer Same here. At first I got a heart attack when seeing the price of the complete kit (hub + sync box + light strip), but if I could just put it between my AVR and the TV without any hassle, it would be worth it. However, after reading into it, it became clear that this is just a legacy device which unnecessarily complicates things and introduces more hassle than it's worth.
@davellanos182410 ай бұрын
Fellows, just to give my two cents here, the HSB has been given an update a few months ago, and even with this the device has some limitation as for the 120 requested. Thus, you have two options; go the route that it has been presented on this video getting a workaround using the suggested set up, or skip on HSB altogether as they launch at tne beggining of the year, the HUE SYNC APP FOR SAMSUNG TV (selected model from late 2022 and more on 2023), you still need the hue brige and lights around the tv and also the hue account as well, I think, but once it is set up there is no lag or workaround needed as everything that is shown natively on the Tv set (obviously it will work with you built in Apps) will sync with the lights around thus avoiding all the hardware issues, so whichever the content shown will be able to sync without any hesitation. You can obviously check if it is an option for you pricewise and if it is go for it and refer to their website for this hue sync app for samsung to have more details if needed, but so far it would be the best option as to avoid cables, hardware woes, sources needed, and helps you out a bit, not much but a bit on your pockets. Once again this is a suggestion, and you made the decision as it is your hard earned money. Cheers.

They've definitely given up. I had a 2019 ambilight TV that didn't need a synch box, it was built in to the TV to control the lights. Upgraded to a 2023 version, without knowing they'd stopped the built in provision. So now if I want to synch lights to TV, I need a synch box at £230. No chance.

For anyone who had similar issues I just fixed mine. I own both a ps5 and an Xbox series x with a 4k 120hz tv so I wanted to be able to use both at full capacity along with my hue sync system. How I accomplished this was similar to this creators but slightly cheaper. I bought two(2) hdmi splitters off Amazon from the same brand as his but half the price. I’m not totally sure what the difference between them is but I was able to get one for each system for the price of his one item. They have a 4K function and a 1080p downscale function which I used to plug into the hue sync box since you wouldn’t be seeing the output anyways. It’s a mess of wires but when it’s all said and done you’re able to switch seamlessly between both systems at full capacity and with your lights synced up to it as well

Just plugged in a Hue Bridge (was using them bluetooth direct to app before) and what did I discover? If you are using a PC you don't even need a Hue Sync Box!!! I downloaded the Hue App for the Microsoft store and it has a sync function. Just enable it on your PC. I get full Hue lighting sync across my OLED gradient light strip, gradient 2m+1m extension and Hue Play Bars at 4k, 144Hz 4:4:4 chroma since there is no hardware limitation involved. Your PC basically becomes the sync box by running the app in the system tray. A bit niche I know, not everyone is like me but for PC users with large screen tv's or even monitors with Hue lighting this is a big win.

It sounded like it was sparking inside, and then a massive white line ended up going across the bottom of the screen! I was totally gutted, but it gave me an excuse to get a new TV, and I wanted another Philips! I made a big mistake in 2022 when I sold my Philips and got a Samsung. Everything I have is Samsung, but as far as TVs go, it's not Samsung's strong point! That has always surprised me! HDMI 2.1! Here b/c I'm gonna try this setup with the Govee AI box and I'm hoping you can validate my plan: Xbox Series X going into the splitter and from there to the my XR-77A80J's HDMI port 4 for the 4k 120hz. The second output in the splitter will go to the Govee sync box. My UltraHD blu-ray player and cable box will go straight into the Govee sync box. And the Govee's output will go into the TV's HDMI port 2 (since those devices don't *need* 120hz). I'm going to run a cable from the XR-77A80J's HDMI port 3 (the only one that's EARC-enabled) straight to my soundbar. Does this all check out? And follow-up: Do I need HDMI 2.1 for all? I may need one more wall-rated cable that's over 10feet to sort this all out. Any recommendations on those (I know 2.1 over 10' isn't recommended). Thanks!

Unfortunately this is not a fix. Even though your Xbox will show 4K120 because the HDMI handshake there is "correct". The chain is still downgraded with everything going through the sync box outputting max HDMI 2.0b. So what you will end up is a HDMI 2.1 signal containing only 2.0b data.

However, my concern would be the splitter is £110 and hue sync play £210 - given there is a single box solution in the works (ie hue sync play 8k) the cost of that is likley to be less than the combined current solution (and would also mean less clutter behind the TV...).

But isn't that the purpose of the splitter? My understanding of this workaround is that you are taking an HDMI 2.1 CEC signal and directly passing it to the TV via the splitter. Wondering if you can answer a couple questions for me? If I have a larger screen (120 inch projector) can I use multiple gradient light strips to go all the way around? And other question is if this will break my Dolby Atmos? Thanks!

I just bought the Hue Sync box and Lights for my TV. I have an LG OLED. I'm not sure what this video is saying? Without this 4K 120 hertz splitter, the sync box is going to degrade my TV's output?? I think I'm going to just return it, because I really can't be bothered with all of this. Also, when I look up splitters on amazon, they all come with 2 devices, while this video shows just the one. I'm super new to this splitter device. I'm not sure what it's doing here? It's upgrading the signal that the sync box is degrading??? Thanks! Sorry for all the questions

The max resolution supported is 4K 60hz with the Philips Hue sync box. If you own a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series x then it wouldn't make the most of those consoles.

@@GeekStreet Thank you for the reply! I'm returning the equipment. I'll buy the 8k Sync box if that ever releases, which I hope it does. I spent too much money on my TV and console to mess with their capabilities for some lights. Thanks again!

SOLUTION: Yes, always the solution is in front of our eyes In this case below, when you flip the EZCOO splitter, there's a clear legend that if you have HDCP issues, just press the SELECT button for 5 seconds, and you're good to go... and that's how it works, so everything is already perfect.

My whole system is Sony which everything runs through my Sony receiver. I have yet been able to figure out how to get sound through my external speakers once the sync box connects. I also read that apps from your TV Netflix for example do not work with the sync box unfortunately. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated 🙏🏽

Is there a particular reason for using the splitter??
@redrosecounty10 ай бұрын
Hue sync box does not support 4k 120Hz input. Therefore you'd have to reduce your output to 60Hz from your console. By using the splitter that supports 4K 120Hz you have an input from the console to the splitter. The Splitter outputs two HDMI signals, your main one from your console straight to the TV which gives you the full 4K 120Hz and a regular 1080p60Hz signal to the HUE sync box which will give the Hue sync box the signal it needs to mirror the colours on your tv through the lighting.

I have this exact setup with PS5. The only issue I'm running into is that when I am playing 4K 120Hz games (Fortnite), the colors on the screen are desaturated and the brightness is pretty dark. When I switch to 60Hz content, the brightness is correct. Any ideas for a fix? Thank you for the guide!

personally i thinking adding back lights to an OLED display defeats the purpose of having an OLED, if the colors are to pop from the screen, the blacks are deep & rich adding lights removes the focus of the OLED.

@moislam796 ай бұрын
Multi 2.1 HDMI inputs? Then I'd guess you need one of these splitters for each device! If it's just one 2.1 input (as in my case, PS5), then that goes into the splitter and the rest of the devices go into the other inputs on the sync box

Hi again, I purchased this hdmi splitter after watching your video but I just can’t seem to get it to work. Please, please would you have any advice on my set up? I have an LG C3 tv that supports everything it needs to and I’m using Sandstrom Gold hdmi cables that fully supports 8K, 4K, 2K and 1080p TVs. I have the Playstation 5 going into the hdmi IN port on the splitter and then a hdmi cable going from the 8K/CEC port on the splitter to the tv and then a hdmi cable going from the 4K/1080p port on the splitter going to the Philips sync box with the the splitter box set to 1080p on the OUT 2 switch and the EDID set to copy. With this set up the tv doesn’t pick up a signal and there’s no syncing of lights on the Philips hue sync box. Have I done something wrong or could it be that it needs a firmware update which btw isn’t available for the UK so I couldn’t do that either. Maybe I have misunderstood your video so if that sounds like I’ve set it up wrong I’d greatly appreciate your advice. Thank you 😊
@GeekStreet6 ай бұрын
Sounds correct what you've done, try clicking the select button on the splitter to flip between the different modes if that doesn't help contact the company I recon it's a firmware issue as the splitter should be capable of showing the picture.

Still can’t switch on VRR since it days my tv doesn’t support it - I know it does since if I connect my PlayStation directly to the tv i can then switch VRR on. If you know the fix for this I will do many nice things! 🤣 Also if I turn game mode on which is how I normally get VRR to work the screen goes blank ‘power source off’ message appears.
