Try with denser(144/m) strip, it looks much better, the colors split like a blurred extension of the screen to the wall, not just 'ambient' The only real problem is still the same, only works on hdmi inputs, the camera solution is good because it works on the built in smart features(netflix prime etc) not just on external. You can also use a raspberry for faster color switching(lower latency)

This looks excellent and is an encouraging step in the right direction for making this available to the masses. At the top of the video, you mentioned that this box support ARC and eARC, and said you’d talk about it later. I’m not sure you brought that back up, but in my opinion, it’s not the inability for previous sync boxes to supposed 4k120 (and other gaming specs/options) that’s keeping people from buying, but rather it’s the majority of people use their TV as the source for all their content. That’s the whole reason ARC was invented, so the audio that’s being generated by the TV (built in apps) can be sent to an external audio system. So my question to you is is that the bit you were going to talk about later in the video? You mentioned you were playing Lion King from Disney+; were you doing that via the TV’s app? Or via your Shield? I think the bigger barrier to entry for the masses is that the masses use the TV’s apps and I have yet to see a sync box that can handle that. Thoughts?

That way you could tie into the end of this strip, and grab the last pixels signal to put under your couch, or something. Obivously it wouldnt be perfect in this situation because it would be only grabbing 1 pixel's information...but I'm sure there's tons of uses for such an adapter. What do you think about my idea? 1. No "wall sized" TVs for under $25k on the market. I am taking on clients if you want to know what those options are. If you have $26k to drop on a TV, you can afford me. 2. A legitimate 2,000 ANSI Lumen projector with an Ambient Light Rejection (ALR) screen comes in at about $5k.
@StormBurnX19 күн бұрын
@@TheOfficialOriginalChad I've sampled about a dozen of those kinds of projectors, both UST and traditional throw, on various 'modern' screens, including a few that looked pretty decent, but... I still, very much, do not want most of the compromises that come with a projector. Even the best ALR projection screens still only reduce ambient brightness by around 20-30%, which is simply not acceptable in large-window rooms during daylight - I enjoy light around the whole room, not just the screen. With that said, though, a ~$3000 100" television is about 7.3' x 4.2', which is plenty big for most 'wall size' TV ideas I had, that still allows for a minimalist entertainment center/console/table beneath, and LED stripping around the TV itself. After all, an ambilight clone is useless on a literal wall-sized TV ;) It's interesting to hear about the budget, though. As incredible of a product as this is for a normal consumer who wants a simple ambilight solution, it won’t satisfy my needs if you can’t add in other instances of lights into the ambilight setup. For instance I bought led tube fixtures off of amazon stripped them down and put in my own led strips to use with wled, thanks to Hyperion and wled I am able to have those fixtures, which are mounted on each side of my tv, become part of my ambilight setup. Although it took a lot of trial and error and many pieces to the puzzle to get everything to work I’m essentially able to continuously add more lights to the setup. So I fully agree with the others who are mentioning Govee if they can adapt a similar product being able to have your whole room sync with a simple ambilight box will be a game changer and save me a lot of space behind my tv.

Can we get a comparison between these and the Govee Sync Box 2? I think they're both really good systems, but I feel your testing of them would put the pros and cons into perspective as to which one is better
@andreamitchell4758Ай бұрын
Went with Sony over LG You made the right choice I hate my C1 because of web OS But I have root and homebrew on my C1 and it has Hyperion. My cheap sync box now supports 4k 60 I could just set up picap and WLEad and use the homebrew on the TV if I want 4k 120 probably but my AVR(Aventage a2a) still only supports 4k60. TV is wall mounted away from the AVR I wonder if I could just put the sync box where my AVR is and run the AVR into thr sync box and use the other 2.1 inputs on the sync box to input the 4k 120 sources. Problem is the strip, I assume it uses a USB type A plug but will the signal still work if I use a USB type A female to USB type A male extension, i have about a 20 foot run naybe 30 Or will it not transmit or affect performance?

Any compatibility with home automation like Home Assistant? I would also love to do this behind a projector screen and it's 120 inches... does the interface let you adjust the number of LEDs?
@ChrisMaherDIYАй бұрын
It does have google and alexa support so i'm sure there is some compatibility with home assistant but I have not personally tried it out. No support for that size yet. Hopefully they will since a projector setup would be epic. No interface for adjusting the number of leds so it must do that automatically behind the scenes once they are cut!
@susanhalle57Ай бұрын
I have the same question; I have a DIY using Raspberry Pi and Hyperion and have created automations to turn on/off with Harmony Remote when Kodi starts which is great. So I'm wondering if this box works with Home Assistant? Do you need to manually turn on/off FancyBox, or does it turn on when you turn the Xbox, Apple TV, etc on?
@CodCodlinessАй бұрын
Home Assistant integration is on the list for them, something that's been talked about for a while, but they've been busy pumping out new lights and upgrades to the boxes. Hopefully that'll be a quite soon realised feature.

Looks amazing, can't wait to see what the competition does. Love the 3 HMDI inputs, sadly not enough for me yet but if it supports another HDMI Splitter may actually be able to hook everything in (Consoles, TV box, PC) Sadly the amazon links don't appear to work/show correct product in EU/UK
@ChrisMaherDIYАй бұрын
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! I would imagine a splitter would work but maybe something I can test out in the future. Hopefully it will be available soon in the EU/UK!
@CodCodlinessАй бұрын
You can just plug everything into an AVR if you have one and then plug the output from that into one port on the sync box. Works perfectly.
@TalisethАй бұрын
@@CodCodliness It's a thought that's been in my head for a while, would love just 1 hdmi cable to my tv instead of 3 + 1 hdmi extension that i use to swap inputs for when I need to hook up my PC, Laptop, Other console, etc. Though An AVR seems pretty overkill for doing just HDMI switching and not sure my room would do the audio part justice. Space behind the sofa is very limited, for proper AVR audio setup i'd have to go inwalls and inceilings and some decent calibration which isn't worth the effort and money it'd cost.

While this is neato, I have a serious problem with 289 bucks for what is basically an arduino or low cost sbc in a box, a program and a led light strip!!! The price is insanely high for a niche product that isn’t needed, but added onto a tv for ambient effects.

Looks amazing. I love the all in one products, but I’m still to stingy with the investment. I’ll keep this product in the back of my mind when my basic RGB WLED/Hyperion setup breaks, I couldn’t handle the fact of using 2 Powerbricks for my Raspberry pi and strip (5V/24V)
@ChrisMaherDIYАй бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yeah, its not crazy expensive like the Philips hue setup but its not cheap either. Hows your hyperion setup doing?!
@NinO12752Ай бұрын
@@ChrisMaherDIY works like a charm, no delay or any discoloration. The only disadvantage is that only normal content/games works, movies from Netflix etc don’t work because of the copy protection but a ambient color can be pleasing as well in those moments

Looks amazing! I find myself watching a lot more media through my TV itself via KZbin plex Netflix etc , all on the inbuilt apps. Thats the only reason I might go with Govee over this. Is there anyway around this? or do i need a camera based system?

No
@MrArjanOskam10 күн бұрын
Does this also work when playing Amazon Prime or Netflix on the TV itself?

No as the sync box analyses the HDMI signal you send through it. There's no signal if the content comes from the TV internaly.

@LouAllenWheelerАй бұрын
This looks fantastic! I just wish that there was a way of getting sync boxes to work with smart TV functionality, but I guess using cameras like the Govee systems is really the only option since eArc only returns the audio channels down.
@oilburnerdeАй бұрын
There is a way if you have an LG tv with webOS. Root the tv install PicCap and you need a Raspberry Pi with Hyper HDR for the image processing. To be honest, it would be easer to use this Sync box with a Fire Stick, Rouku or other streaming device for the apps.
@benhaze1010Ай бұрын
Good comment making me realize I really don't need the more expensive 3 inputs version. And that this won't work with most of the TV movies we are watching since we do use the smart TV functions. Although we would watch netflix through the TV set-up box instead of using the smart TV option.
@LouAllenWheelerАй бұрын
@@oilburnerde Ahh, that's super cool for those who have a webOS TV! I have a Sony though, so I suppose I'll look into finally switching to a Shield or a Google TV streamer box. Just one more remote to convince the wife to get used to haha.

I know Paul Hibbert made a video about the Govee sync box and mentioned because the syncbox can actually see the screen, It doesn't always show matching colours. But chooses a colour that is in the middle of the screen. He'd rather get a camera based system because of that. How did that turn out with the Fancyled box?
@PauloOreda18 күн бұрын
Iguess that the sync does not work for content that is derectly played on the Tv without an external device, right? For example with the native netflix app that comes loaded on the Tv

Yes you guessed right. The device analyses to HDMI signal that passes through. As theres is no signal when you use the built-in apps there's nothing for the device to analyse.

I have the Lytmi ambilight kit for 65 inch TVs and am pretty happy with it. I wonder how does the box know the size of the TV with a cuttable strip? Does it just take the colours from the edge of the screen and spreads them along the strip? How would it work if I don't cut it? For example when I currently have a 65" TV and want to use the same kit for a 75" TV in the future.
