There are options without camera, and Govee is releasing a 2.1 sync box as well, but with more input ports i think. The compromise of a sync box tho, is: You can’t get the effects from content that comes from TV and Apps on tv, only what you connect to the sync box :/

@@RifetOkic no TV really is a bummer. But smart TV apps are usually terrible, can easily solve that with an android box, a gaming console, mini PC, etc. If you're paying for a sync box, something like that shouldn't be an issue.

@@RifetOkic I actually prefer using an Amazon FireTV stick rather than the TV's built-in apps. I find the built-in apps are almost always very late in receiving updates, or are buggy or slow, compared to a dedicated FireTV stick. So I'm assuming this syncbox should work with media sticks as well.

So glad to see these coming down in price. I bought the Philips Hue Sync for my 65" TV when it first came out forever ago and spent an arm and a leg on it. It was awesome when it worked lol. Had to reboot the box way more times than I wanted to over my course of using it. Moved to a 100" 4K Laser Projector and I'll admit; I miss the ambient light, which isn't something I can pull off now that I have a screen mounted in my living room. @@ChrisMaherDIY Not the OP, but yes, Hyperion has everything this box offers except HDMI switching - I already had one upstream as we have lots of consoles and devices fed to one HDMI port on this TV. If you have the RaspPi (I used a old 3B+), it's just LEDs, a power supply and HDMI-to-USB conversion box, all-in, around $50. Works great, but is more DIY. But I also got a of options to fine-tune to meet and exceed my expectations. The system works great regardless of content, 4K, HDR, 120Hz, etc. It also can ignore black-bars on letterbox movies, which is a plus.

@@CubbyTech just google HDMI USB capture card. There are many options from less then $20 to over $100. It all depends on what LED strip controller you have. HyperHDR has recommended USB capture cards that work well with the software. I already had a WS21X 12V Led strip on my tv. That controller is not supported by HyperHDR, so it took some tweaking and trial and error to get it to an acceptable end result.

@@Hessencemusic It wouldn't work with native tv apps, since you need the sync box between the tv and input source. I use HyperHdr on a Pi with a Usb capture card and HDMI splitter with all source inputs going through my AVR, I use a Fire Stick for all the streaming apps. But there is a way to use the native tv apps if you have an LG tv. You would have to root the tv and install PicCap and that would send the image signal to HyperHdr on the pi to sync the led's. This looks like the easiest plug and play option I have seen. If I had to do it over, I would go this route instead.

This looks excellent and is an encouraging step in the right direction for making this available to the masses. At the top of the video, you mentioned that this box support ARC and eARC, and said you’d talk about it later. I’m not sure you brought that back up, but in my opinion, it’s not the inability for previous sync boxes to supposed 4k120 (and other gaming specs/options) that’s keeping people from buying, but rather it’s the majority of people use their TV as the source for all their content. That’s the whole reason ARC was invented, so the audio that’s being generated by the TV (built in apps) can be sent to an external audio system. So my question to you is is that the bit you were going to talk about later in the video? You mentioned you were playing Lion King from Disney+; were you doing that via the TV’s app? Or via your Shield? I think the bigger barrier to entry for the masses is that the masses use the TV’s apps and I have yet to see a sync box that can handle that. Thoughts?

1. No "wall sized" TVs for under $25k on the market. I am taking on clients if you want to know what those options are. If you have $26k to drop on a TV, you can afford me. 2. A legitimate 2,000 ANSI Lumen projector with an Ambient Light Rejection (ALR) screen comes in at about $5k.
@StormBurnX
@StormBurnX Ай бұрын
@@TheOfficialOriginalChad I've sampled about a dozen of those kinds of projectors, both UST and traditional throw, on various 'modern' screens, including a few that looked pretty decent, but... I still, very much, do not want most of the compromises that come with a projector. Even the best ALR projection screens still only reduce ambient brightness by around 20-30%, which is simply not acceptable in large-window rooms during daylight - I enjoy light around the whole room, not just the screen. With that said, though, a ~$3000 100" television is about 7.3' x 4.2', which is plenty big for most 'wall size' TV ideas I had, that still allows for a minimalist entertainment center/console/table beneath, and LED stripping around the TV itself. After all, an ambilight clone is useless on a literal wall-sized TV ;) It's interesting to hear about the budget, though. It boggles my mind how the price seems to rise exponentially for that kind of size. I would rather buy a car or a house with that kind of money, than just a screen :)

How well does the base box work with different video sources? I didn’t see a remote in the product shots on their site and I’m wondering how it works with an Xbox (or other console) that turns on/off and a computer that might just be on all the time.

Surely it should be possible to connect to ARC port on tv and box + return HDMI to allow tv apps to work with it much like you would connect a soundbar?
@toldim79
@toldim79 8 күн бұрын
ARC is audio return channel u will never get back video on this port and they never going to make such a port, cuz u would be able to copy the protected contents. In theory it is possible to convert the internal LVDS port (the port which goes to the lcd inside the tv) back to dvi. There is few IC-s on the market which able to do such a job like this, altough i have never seen any PCB yet. Currently what u can buy is only converting the HDMI signal to LVDS but not backward.

Very nice color reproduction! Turning off the lights where it's completely black is amazing. Did you have a chance to test a Dolby Atmos system/soundbar and check if it outputs the sound correctly. I have a first gen Govee camera thingy and that thing is ... acceptable. But there's so much lacking with it that I've been looking to replace it forever, but the most important feature that was missing for me was actually ARC. I don't know if there's any other products that allow for this, since I don't obsess over finding a solution or anything, but stumbling across this lets me know that it at least exists now which is huge. I need that ARC because I use my apple tv with homepods for my audio lol

Any compatibility with home automation like Home Assistant? I would also love to do this behind a projector screen and it's 120 inches... does the interface let you adjust the number of LEDs?
@ChrisMaherDIY
@ChrisMaherDIY 3 ай бұрын
It does have google and alexa support so i'm sure there is some compatibility with home assistant but I have not personally tried it out. No support for that size yet. Hopefully they will since a projector setup would be epic. No interface for adjusting the number of leds so it must do that automatically behind the scenes once they are cut!

I have the same question; I have a DIY using Raspberry Pi and Hyperion and have created automations to turn on/off with Harmony Remote when Kodi starts which is great. So I'm wondering if this box works with Home Assistant? Do you need to manually turn on/off FancyBox, or does it turn on when you turn the Xbox, Apple TV, etc on?

Home Assistant integration is on the list for them, something that's been talked about for a while, but they've been busy pumping out new lights and upgrades to the boxes. Hopefully that'll be a quite soon realised feature.

Damn, this makes anime look even more amazing. I hope it looks just as good without the TV being mounted. Since I rent, I want to avoid damaging the walls as much as possible, so I've not mounted mine (repainting the wall also means contending with my living room's 15 or 20ft ceiling...and given how chaotic moving can be, I want to add as little extra stuff as possible).

So, question...My current setup has one HDMI run from my TV through the wall down to my surround sound system (HDMI ARC), and each hdmi input connects to the surround sound system. If I were to purchase this, would I install it in between the TV and surround sound, or hook up each hdmi input to the sync box and then one output to the surround sound and then keep the hdmi arc to and from the tv?

What would be the optimal distance between the TV and the wall for a nice diffusion of the lights? I assume if it's too close then we might see individual lights, if its too far we lose position details. Can you share what that distance is for you? Great video btw! :)

As incredible of a product as this is for a normal consumer who wants a simple ambilight solution, it won’t satisfy my needs if you can’t add in other instances of lights into the ambilight setup. For instance I bought led tube fixtures off of amazon stripped them down and put in my own led strips to use with wled, thanks to Hyperion and wled I am able to have those fixtures, which are mounted on each side of my tv, become part of my ambilight setup. Although it took a lot of trial and error and many pieces to the puzzle to get everything to work I’m essentially able to continuously add more lights to the setup. So I fully agree with the others who are mentioning Govee if they can adapt a similar product being able to have your whole room sync with a simple ambilight box will be a game changer and save me a lot of space behind my tv.
