Favorite line of the movie having just rewatched it was when Skeletor explained why he couldn't kill He-man, because it would make him a Martytr and the people would never surrender. A good bit of realism, it also shows Skeletor wanted to rule over the people and not simply dominate and kill them.

Nice in depth well thought and reasoned review! But it is an undeniable fact you can be a warrior eating just plant based food without any animal products. Scientifically, health wise & compassionately, even more so. In that sense, the movie and the Eternians were actually ahead of their time in 1987.

1:28 That's the point. The idea was to have a toy line that could work with all the other toys.
@PaulRizzo7 жыл бұрын
Despite how far this movie strayed from the original source material which was THE TOYLINE and COMICS rather than the cartoon, this movie is still good. The Masters of the Universe mythology is just as good and rich as ANYTHING in Star Wars or Lord of the Rings. Just because it's popular to bash it just means it's a bandwagon, not that it's bad. If something as dumb as Transformers can be turned into a multi billion dollar franchise, MOTU could do the same if done CORRECTLY!

17:00 - Actually Castle Greyskull is not evil it's actually the source of He-Man's powers... Skeletor just really wants to steal that power for himself...because it's a hereditary power and both can sorta claim it... you see He-Man's great-great(so on) ancestor King Greyskull built it and store all his powers in it to be used later on to fight evil again. Skeletor his real name being Keldor is actually Prince Adam aka He-Man's uncle aka King Randor's half-brother! Turns out He-Man's grandfather had an illegitimate son who wanted to be king because he was technically the oldest... A lot of Loki and Thor stuff there actually! He ended up siding with Hordak the same ancient evil being that King Greyskull fought centuries ago to try and take over the kingdom ad very comicbooky he tried killing his half-brother by throw acid into his face but it splashed back at him off Randor's shield and burnt of his face... Evil-Lyn took Keldor who was dying of his wounds to some temple and made a deal with Hordak to save Keldor and he has a demon (named Demo-Man) possessed him and turned him into Skeletor and made him completely evil!

I have another thought -- Infinity Gauntlet, it should be noted, was a re-tread story. It was played out on a MUCH larger scale, but it was pretty much Jim Starlin re-doing a story he did back in his run on Captain Marvel in the 1970s. If you think this material seems like Infinity Gauntlet that's probably because that story was wholy unoriginal. Basically: The original Thanos story was about him getting the cosmic cube and Captain Marvel and a group of cosmic and non-cosmic heroes having to team up to stop him using its unlimited cosmic power in his attempts to literally court death. You might actually really get a kick out of reading that material to see the genesis of the ideas that were extended and further developed nearly 20 years later for Infinity Gauntlet if that's the only version of the story you're familiar with. --Andrew S.
@Townsvilletale9 жыл бұрын
I know it's already been mentioned in the comments... but man it was a bit icky when you said, "The ladies love him," over a picture of He-man next to his sister. Also "He-Man" is a term for a man who is ultra-masculine that pre-dates He-man the character by like a century. --Andrew S. (You might want to check that 'century' number. A brief google search couldn't confirm anything because the character name has heavily overridden the older term.)

I was always a Thundercats fan more than a He-Man fan but enjoy the film for what it is, which is a live-action cartoon romp. We have had far, far worse. 2 out of 4 seems far.
@Flaris8 жыл бұрын
I have to agree with all of this. It's a real shame how this turned out. It really was "He-Man...on a budget....with a lot of meddling." This didn't need Earth...at all. If they wanted to cash in a bit on He-Man and make a movie with Star Wars similarities then why use Earth at all? I guess because they wanted to make it on a budget and filming it on Earth would make for cheaper set options. If they didn't have the money they should have let it be. It isn't a great movie, but darn it there is some amusing things in it. I can't hate the thing with how I enjoyed watching it on TV as a kid. It's not a good movie, but it has some fun. And was the first movie I ever saw with an after-credits scene which as a kid I thought was cool and surprising. I'd love if the talks for a Masters of the Universe movie did turn into something. You could do something really awesome with that setting. Would have to change some things up, but it could work.

OK, class, for your essay, compare He-Man and Skeletor to any of the following: * The pretty people and the ugly people in Star Trek: Insurrection * Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito in "Twins" * Scar and Mufasa * Lazarus and anti-Lazarus from "The Alternative Factor" * The Tick and Chairface Chippendale.

The 1 people who disliked this video probably disliked the review because either: a.) Some butthurt numbnut felt seeing a 35 min. review of a movie would waste someone's time. b.) Felt very impatient sitting though a long video, skimming through every point of the video. or c.) Just disliked it because of the movie. Now which one is it? Good thing I hit the like button and joined the crew. And yes, I did spent my past time once sitting through this travesty of a He-Man live action film atrocity.

I respect your review because it's so deep but you overthink this movie too much, it's just a beatiful '80s fable, not everythin' should make sense, the most important thing is the capresque message. As far as I am concerned there are just two flaws, the low budget and the voice of Dolph without a dubbing. Anthony De Longis, the actor who plays Blade, is a fight coreography also for this movie, so I don't think there isn't a fight coregraphy.
