Considering the amount of effort you put into these videos they're definitely worth the wait. Going back to the toy commercial you brought up at the beginning of the video, I remember having a He-Man sword back in my childhood which I didn't know was based off of a cartoon in the early 2000s that was based off of a cartoon from the 80s.

I remember watching the pilot and I ACTUALLY thought this was animated by a Japanese studio. To be honest it should've been its own series, If the He-Man multiverse was already a thing back then this could've been it own seperate reality - He-Man in space!

This series is actually the only one I remember from being a kid - it ran in Poland in the early 90's. It is is quite nostalgic, though even then some parts annoyed me to no end. Can't wait for the 2002 review, started re-watching it to be up to date. Also, why on Earth is this channel not more well known? I've been watching since around 2012, and already then knew it has some great content. YT algorithm does weird things.

Interesting enough, comparing this series with Filmation's work... I keep thinking this New HeMan looks like Filmation's version of Flash Gordon, minus the red shirt, plus the sword (is this sword also property of Castle Grayskull like the original was?) looks like the Blazing Sword from vehicle Voltron. Also--why no comparison of New Skeletor with Baron Dark? They both have the physical skulls with eyeballs and hair, and are both full of same level of villainous snark. All the same, glad to see you back up and running with another well-wrought cartoon analysis, Rob.

Glad you're feeling better and back to the show. Doug Parker voiced Adam, while Gary Chalk voiced He-Man, which does separate their voices but feels off to me. Chalk will return as Man-At-Arms in the 2003 series. I think Mattel was trying to get rid of Prince Adam. In the toy bio and minicomic we're told he had to sacrifice his Adam identity but the show doesn't do that and I have mixed feelings on it. Interestingly he usually says "By The Power Of Eternia", possibly a reference to the toy/minicomic idea that Eternia now held Grayskull's power, which the show also avoided, but while on planet Eternia he used the one "By The Power Of Grayskull" when revealing his identity to his parents. I'll defend Scott and T-Bob on MASK and even I thought Kaz was a pest. I'm sure Optic's VA didn't mind being limited...or at least his voice box doesn't mind. I'm one of the fans who enjoys New Adventures for what it is, even if is different from the original. There's enough similarity that I can get past it but I see why others can't get into it. Peacock has the whole thing up on their free side (you do need an account but you don't have to pay for it) and it's worth at least seeing once.

Great to see you again, and I hope you're back to being in good health again! I was honestly surprised to find how little I ended up minding this show- I've really only seen clips of the first episode and the premise and art-style immediately put me off. Removing all the characters kids already owned toys off, changing Skeletor to look more goofy and He-Man (and practically the whole world) to be WAY less of that awesome mish-mash between Conan the Barbarian and Flash Gordon-sci fi and more of a ... really non-descript and blander style made it all seem SUPER-unappealing. But now that I see the ideas they're kicking around in here I think I could have actually liked this as a kid- that "Rashomon" episode feels pretty funny if they even have the heroes make fun of He-Man, Skeletor's sass remains glorious even if the mutant-girl sure is not Evil-Lyn. and I feel like I want to see the whole cast get rocking hair-metal make overs (and of all the rockers they could have made a parody of, they choose the least family-friendly OR mainstream firendly dude at all, Frank Zappa, when that guy clearly looks like an Axl Rose ripoff?) Granted, while the scripts may be improved I still feel like the loss of the old He-Man shows look is a net loss and a blemish on the new shows score card, even if they make Skeletor look less goofy as it goes along. More coherent storyline isn't enough to save it, so I don't know if it could've ever been succesful... but I will admit I judged it too harshly.

There's been a reference to this show.. in the 2016's comics which are a serious reboot of both series.. She-Ra and He-Man. In this Hordak (i guess) was forgeing a new Sword of Power.. And every time he hit the Anvil... a planet exploded in the impact the sword creates.And you clearly can see these characters in this..right before the explosion, which should make clear how "they" think about this show 😆

That wouldn't work, because the 2003 show was an origin story for Adam, Skeletor, Evil-Lyn, etc. They were all younger than they were in the Filmtion show, so the 200X cartoon was more like a prequel.

Yeah, I can see why this version of He-Man is to many MOTU fans just okay, or meh. It's very strange that there is lot of good stuff, but also lot way too over the top silly, stupid or annoying stuff in this show. They kind a try to make series look little bit more better with the much more high quality animation, but still keep adventures and silly tone of original. I'm not gonna say this is the worst reboot ever, but it's not the best one either. Let's just say, it was good try to bring He-Man back, but also clumsy outcome to trying bring something new for the table. I kind a like animation and visuals, but it missing lot of things what makes original show enjoyable.
@TVsMrNeil10 ай бұрын
Stylistically, I really loved the look of this show.... depending on the overseas studio. It had a very anime look to it. Some of the later episodes, less so. I actually really liked the mutants and a few of the other supporting characters. Ironically, I disliked the hero characters based on the action figures the most... like the wetsuit and glider pack guy. The worst aspect of this show was that it was He-Man. I like the sci-fi stuff, but the power of the good and the way of the magic just got in the way. I think I just wanted more Robotech, and this just isn't it.
