I'm pretty sure that if you tell the patient that you just gonna observe them at the end of the bed ( for your physical assessment ) isn't a brilliant idea as an examiner because patients in real life is going to be more tense & anxious if you tell them that and it might affect the result of a correct assessment finding especially on the breathing pattern etc....

Just wondering at the start of the examination the chest was the only area told to the patient that would be examinate. Other areas are examined like the legs, arms and face. Shouldn't we also tell this to the patient at the start of the exam?

There is a LOT of going back and forth for the peripheries on this examination. I personally get them to cock their wrists back and let them stay there whilst i look for peripheral signs.
@bananaman226 жыл бұрын
is it important to repeat everything front and back for the respiratory exam?
@seboyamahlatse98786 жыл бұрын
yes because the lung expands through the whole thoracic cavity
@redache4676 жыл бұрын
Our OSCE exams usually have no times to do such thing, we sometimes mention that anything we did in the front, we do it in the back. However, in real hospital settings, you should do everything.
@komaddog5 жыл бұрын
@@redache467 wow, in OSCE exams you should do it. If we don't do it on front and back we don't get the marks at all.
@titaniumleaf5 жыл бұрын
Yes. If a real patient has pulmonary oedema (like in CCF, v common in elderly) then fluid may collect on the back if they're lying down or sitting up. You may not hear pulmonary oedema on the front but it could be there on the back due to such pooling.

@_.zain._.8 ай бұрын
no in longstanding/advanced asthma percussion note can get more resonant rather than dull.
