Just last night I was thinking about this, because now I can understand what the characters are saying I feel like I get that little bit more personality from them, especially during gameplay, that I never did before. Last night I was watching Samurai Shodown 4 matches and hearing Sogetsu say 「あぶないですよ」and understanding it gave me so much more of an impression of his personality than when I couldn't understand any of it. @@djhero0071 Haha of course! あぶないですよ (abunai desu yo) means something like, "(That's/this is) dangerous!". As with most things in Japanese, it's all about context. In this case it's meant to sound a little condescending to his opponent, because that's how we might say it to a kid who's doing something that's not good for them, or it might be how we tell someone that something is dangerous, assuming they don't already know. The よ (yo) on the end of the sentence is explanatory and turns it into an assertion. For example if I touched a hot kettle and burned my hand, I might exclaim to you, 手いたい、あぶないよ！ (te itai, abunai yo!) meaning, "It hurt my hand, it's dangerous!", so the よ makes it into an exclamation and has a bit more of an assertive tone compared to saying the same sentence without よ。But in a swordfight, it's pretty safe to assume that Sogetsu's opponent already knows that it's dangerous, so it comes off as a bit condescending :)

Quite possibly because I played this game so much on Dreamcast, both regular and Pro versions of the game. And the presentation in this game is stellar and on point. There'd have to be a small group AT LEAST, with people trying to take bets on repping their favorites from either brand. But yeah, I can't recall seeing any of these machines in my youth at any of the arcades I went to, even though I wasn't big on fighting games until I turned 17. Capcom dropped the ball... or maybe my arcades just liked Time Crisis and Deer Hunter more... :/

The “splash screen” that appeared after you KO’ed Cammy isn’t for a level 3 KO; It’s actually this game’s version of the “Finest KO” splash screen. ALSO: The PS1 version of CvS1 is sh*t. Sound is muddled, it has an over abundance of loading screens, sprite and background quality is reduced. As with almost every Capcom fighting game ported to the PS1 over the years, the SEGA console ports have always been WAY superior and at times near arcade-perfect, as pretty much every Capcom fighting game on arcade cabinets run on SEGA hardware, making it easier to replicate on Saturn and Dreamcast as opposed to having to retool the entire game so it will even work due to the PS1’s glaring limitations.

SNK is releasing Samurai showdown neogeo collection, with instant online access to every samurai showdown game. Next year its Street Fighter II 30th Anniversary, Capcom should release a collection with every version of Street Fighter II, including world warrior, championship edition, Hyper Street Fighter II The Anniversary edition etc with online access. Similar what SNK is doing to Samurai showdown. In theory if every version of Street Fighter II had instant online acess it will get the recognition it deserves. Street Fighter 30th Anniversary was a few years back but the other 2 games featured was not Street Fighter II.

personally, i think this game is better than cvs2 because it had some awesome combos that you can't do in any other game, such as with Ken (sweep, Shouryu Reppa, Shinryuken & LP Dragon Punch, Shoryu Reppa) and Ryu (sweep, Shin shoryuken). Benimaru, Morrigan, Dhalsim, and EX Sakura also had sweep then super combos as well. I was very disappointed when they took out those combos in cvs2. this game was very popular at the arcade i was at (northern California), so i'm surprised to hear it wasn't popular at your arcades.

CvS1 Geese boss actually has a weird AI response to certain actions. He likes to keep using jumping reppuken and jumping hard kick. This opens him up to attacks that charge him. (Blanka roll, E. Honda Headbutt, etc) then follow up with a jumping attack while he's airborne. You can do this throughout the AI boss fight

CvS1 was my favorite of this series. CvS2 may have been the better game, but this game was more fun for me.

I played the Dreamcast version of this game in english, and I can confirm Geese just suicides at the end! lol He says he "can't accept that" after you won't kill him and he just throws himself of the building. Kinda funny
