It's a wonder how Anakin was able to ride one of these things on Alaris Prime without falling off. A reimagining of the STAP as a Droid with a droidica style shield... could have been pretty effective. Think about it.
@chaosinc.382 Жыл бұрын
Probably woulda needed a total overhaul though. Their already limited battery would be severely taxed by a shield generator, evidenced by how the titular Destroyers needed like twelve batteries and a built-in reactor. If the STAP was then given better batteries and the generator, it would likely become heavier and bulkier, reducing its speed... which was primarily its whole thing.

the strange thing is the STAP could have been a great mobile anti infantry turret, as you said it has about the same damage output as a Destroyer droid, if you put a good quality shield Infront of the driver they could in a offensive action, fly in lockdown onto the ground and deal out suppressing fire then when the attack is ready to move rather then having to pack up the gun it can take off again and fly forward ahead of the advancing troops land and repeat, while in a defensive action the STAP could be used as a force multiplier a portable highspeed turret that when defending from multiple points of attack can change position rapidly depending on where they are needed most

There is something I don't understand about the STAP It had some kind of nuclear reactor to propel the vehicle forward but it had to be recharged after only a few hours. If it had a reactor to propel it and gave up a lot of radiation, which would be fatal to organics, why would it need to be recharged? Couldn't the reactor power all of the various systems? Thrust, levitation and weapons
@The_Lucent_Archangel Жыл бұрын
Depends what type of reaction it was and how much energy was needed to keep it aloft, accelerating, and firing. Even a sustained fusion requires more reactants to keep going, let alone some sort of fission or even a radioisotope generator is liable to go cold after that kind of power draw given how small the power plant must be on one of these.
@dragonweyr44 Жыл бұрын
@@The_Lucent_Archangel Does it really need refueling that often though Reactors for SSNs, SSBNs and Aircraft carriers can go 20 years without refueling and the reactor of the Voyager space probes have gone over 40 years with a much smaller reactor
@The_Lucent_Archangel Жыл бұрын
@@dragonweyr44 True, but we have no sense of scale for how much power those cannons or engines that compact capable of pushing 400 mph would draw. We really don't know how much energy a repulsor system would take, because that's well outside of our capability whereas directed energy weapons and turbine engines are a bit more grounded. Subs and carriers have reactors that are smaller than a nuke plant, but still quite large. And both Voyagers had to power down more and more systems to try and conserve energy. A STAP isn't that large, so its reactor must be incredibly compact. The fact its engine release so much radiation reminds me of the SLAM concept, basically a nuclear-powered cruise missile that would drop smaller munitions while casting a radioactive wake behind itself and ultimately hitting a priority target with a large main warhead. Thankfully the US didn't actually complete that program. It theoretically could have remained flying for quite some time but again, that's only using power for flight, guidance, and weapon release and it was much larger than a STAP. Or, maybe, the reactor purely drives the engines and repulsor while the energy cells power the weapons. Even if it's primarily a recon platform, having no offensive capability would definitely call for a recharge.
@dragonweyr44 Жыл бұрын
@@The_Lucent_Archangel I really don't understand how repulsor lift technology works. Honestly, the STAP makes more sense when you stop thinking of it as a vehicle, and more as a mobile Blaster Cannon platform. Like, think of heavy weapons like the E-web, which require two clone-troopers to carry it into battle, as separate powersource, and functions as a stationary immobile turret. Take that, combine the power-generator and the gun/tripod into a single compact package, then make it float. All while still being barely larger than a person. You could station these inside buildings, inside the hallways of starships. Emplaced gun-turrets that can easily be repositioned or pushed forwards without needing a whole crew to drag the weapon around in pieces. Maybe add a durasteel plate to the front to serve as armour. Edit: Like a droidika, but with repulsorlift instead of rolling, so it can shoot while moving.

Why did the engines emit radioactivity?? The writers could've easily made them just emit insane amounts of heat, which would have the exact same result with only droids being really effective users. Like, imagine the engine exhaust running up to somthing around ~400°C, no human would be stupid enough to ride these. Meanwhile the feet (which are right behind the engines) which are metal on droids would have no problems. That'd be a much more comprehensive and engaging negative side effect than hand-waving it off with "radioactive advanced star wars magic".
