@BenFradella10 күн бұрын
One thing to keep in mind with the low-latency async reprojection feature -- which you may have mentioned in your original video on it -- is that it _only_ affects movements! Firing a weapon or doing any other sort of "gameplay action" will still show the "true" latency. I could see this feeling really weird and disjointed as the latency grows higher.
@2kliksphilip10 күн бұрын
I cannot tell if the audio or visuals are out by 1/10 of a second, but CAN feel if there's even the slightest delay from my mouse inputs. I don't think the action on-screen being delayed will matter so long as my mouse adjustments feel instant.
@somdudewillson10 күн бұрын
I mean, a lot of games that really care about latency are already "reprojecting" a lot of gameplay actions - the CPU _can_ know you've done a thing before the GPU finishes rendering the next frame, after all.

The split between framerate and responsiveness happened even before frame generation thanks to Reflex. A little context, the render queue was a way to marginally improve performance by allowing the CPU to work ahead dumping instructions for the GPU to pick up so it never has to wait. The problem is that instructions sitting in the queue means the game state being rendered is stale. Reflex kills the render queue and enforces just in time draw call submission so draw calls are only generated right before the GPU is ready for them, this can slightly lower framerate especially in GPU bound scenarios but significantly improves responsiveness. Once upon a time Reflex was its own seperate SDK, a bit obscure it had a few e-sports titles using it. Being added to the requirements of DLSS3 was the best thing to ever happen to Reflex.

I must say your review has made me appreciate the wide range of technologies the 50 series represents a lot more than I did based off of marketing and other reviews, in large part because it is very use-case focussed instead of numbers focussed. That in and of itself highlights the problem with these technologies though: there's no longer a good objective way to compare cards. FPS is easy, pacing and latency are doable, but the trade-off between smoothness, latency, and artefacts is nearly impossible to capture in a review and that ambiguity can be abused by marketing to push some very misleading figures. While I greatly respect the sheer scientific rigour of people like Gamers Nexus, this will be the review I'll share with others for this generation.

I feel this is a rather optimistic view of this card, possibly unnecessarily. If it was released alongside the 40 series as a 4090 ti or Titan, it would make sense with the 1:1:1 price:power:performance increase. Instead, the 4090 is now discontinued and unobtanium, the 5080 will not outperform or match the 4090, and the 5080 does not have the comfortable 24G of vram one would expect for $1000. That and you test weird scenarios that you might never actually play games at just out of curiosity, which is pretty much entirely absent from what other reviewers do but I find myself doing the same sort of thing with new hardware. I just get curious about what it can do even if I'm not going to use it like that. Curiosity for the new when it comes to tech can provide some really valuable insight. Keep doing what you're doing.

Good vid I dont like any upscaling or TAA, however the new frame gen and reflex features look very interesting I think out of other "tech reviewers" you have definitely done the best job of explaining it's future uses. 23:56 I also have a heavily relate to, benchmarking for the sake of benchmarking

not liking upscaling is kind of crazy, currently dlss on quality mode is almost entirely without any artifacting and gets you a pretty decent performance uplift.

@@MontySlython I just don't like the total Image blur using temporal techniques gives, in the lowered resolution is to noticeable for me.
@MontySlython8 күн бұрын
@therealwetwizard but generally speaking AI upscaling doesn't give much of a temporal blur at all, at least compared to a lot of UE5 games I've seen. TAA doesn't have to be on for some games with dlss on if I recall correctly
@therealwetwizard8 күн бұрын
@@MontySlython Most UE5 games require taa, so you're probably comparing taa with dlss. I realy like how native looks. Dlss is a temporal upscaler, you can't use both twice.
@MontySlython8 күн бұрын
@ I see, either way, the blur that comes from using DLSS while it can be annoying its not nearly as bad as the TAA most games are shipped with nowadays and if you dont have a gpu that can handle some games in native with graphics options at high, DLSS is an excellent way to meet graphical fidelity standards and still have a decent framerate, I am also one of those people thats very sensitive to blurring and artifacting so I understand your position though but more choices is always a good thing, especially for future proofing. Also what I meant initially was that DLSS while temporal simply isnt as bad as what TAA is currently doing to games and is generally completely optional unlike the TAA most games are being made with so comparing them is a little odd.

Yes those 8k numbers are impressive indeed and I like that someone has tested that, its a far better data point than I had considered in the context of this card, or others for that matter.

Would you be interested in making a video comparing DLSS 4 to Lossless Scaling? LS also has multi frame gen now and it works on any GPU in any game, I think it'd be interesting to compare nvidia's features to theirs. RTX 2-3000 didn't get frame-gen, and perhaps a 7$ software would be a neat upgrade without paying a ton!
@TaelythTheCat9 күн бұрын
What I like about frame gen, is that a lot of artifacts are visible when flicking the mouse around but the moment you plug in a controller and throw on something like vsync or gsync there is a lot less except for obvious things that still struggle around objects and the such. Also Lossless scaling on steam has a MFG setting that can go up to 20x before Nvidia even released the 5090 hahaha

Great video as always. It is cool to see the new dlss making super high resolutions playable and kind of gives me hope that they can plateau at this level and focus on power efficiency in the next generation, because while the idea of combining a space heater and PC is cool, maybe the carpet floors of my apartment might not take well to it.

This guy knows how to keep people watching like the way he presents facts and just your cool nerdy neighbour explaining shit vibes kept me till the end. This is also a comprehensive review of the 5090 which gives me answers to the questions I didn’t even knew i have about the 5090’s price to performance( this actually made me believe the 5090 is a very powerful and efficient card in my mind). Great review.

11:30 apparently the multi frame gen doesnt add much latency, maybe a few extra miliseconds i think its on gamernexus or optimums review
@2kliksphilip10 күн бұрын
Like I said, it comes with the added latency that standard FG already comes with. It is inherent for there to be some latency, given how it works- it would not be as low as if reflex were on and FG were off.

17:22 this is a check-able setting. in the Nvidia control panel (on Linux, but it should be on Windows too) go to the PowerMizer tab and look for the "performance level". P5 is idle and P0 is maximum (sometimes it says 0-4 instead of 5-0). My rtx 4070 ti super idles at P5 ~30W and 30-40% gpu usage and P0 is ~290W 100% for Returnal epic settings 1440p. Like you said all video games normally run at P0 but CS2 could be so easy to run that it drops down to P1 or P2 which would throw off the percentage usage numbers.

I like the perspective of the reviews you make. Most reviewers are more technical than realistic. This seems to ground this halo product

I would like to formally Request a review of the MFG present in Lossless Scaling. It has a multiplier of how many frames are returned that can go up to 20x and is only 10$ as opposed to the 2000$ for the 5090. I am quite literally watching youtube and movies on netflix and the such at 240fps because it seemless integrates into ANY program or Game without injecting software.

Thanks for the video, I enjoy your honest takes. There is simply too much fake feeling hype and rage out there. Your point about MFG and lowend/portable hardware is really good, I wish something like my steamdeck could have MFG, it would be more impactful there then on a high end gpu in a desktop.
