My family has been with GEICO for more than 10 years. They just sent us a letter telling us they will not renew our policy when the current one expires in September. They cited the reason as being 2 accidents we had this year. One was from a neighbor backing into our legally parked car where the other insurance paid the claim. The second was for an incident where a tire flew across the freeway and hit my wife’s car. Clearly neither of those incidents were our fault. When we called for an explanation they said our 18 year old son, who they’ve covered for 2 1/2 years and whose never had an accident or citation, was too high risk. They wanted us to drop him from our policy but continue insuring our other cars and son with them. They refused to consider any other option like raising our rates to cover the alleged increased risk. We are done with GEICO and we won’t come back. I’ve lost all faith in them.

If someone told you this then it is incorrect information. It has nothing to do with your accident history (if you continue to have more accidents we would just raise your rates). The goal is to pull out of california for the next couple of years. This is simply because California is not profitable. I deal primarily with home insurance and nearly every partner we work with has pulled out of California. This is due to your state allowing mechanic shops to raise their rates sky high without allowing insurance to balance the scales. Yes you will get upset with us but we are a business. We are hemorrhaging money due to all the scalping several states are doing to us. what would be better? get maybe another year of guaranteed insurance at decent rates and then Geico closes up forever. or Geico pulls from the state until they fix their structuring so we can rejoin a healthy market? I literally had someones insurance go from 2100/yr to 5300/yr simply because the state isn’t competitive. (this was a partner of ours that i personally do not like but is taking advantage of the situation) I literally advised the homeowner to go elsewhere (local is best right now) in california. GEICO IS THE WORST. They made it impossible to speak to a human being and lapsed my coverage without my knowledge 2 months ago, now I'm trying to get insured by anyone but Geico because it was impossible to speak to a human, and now my rates are doubled because of the lapse. I'm so infuriated at this horrible customer service, I was a policy holder for over 5 years. TERRIBLE SERVICE.

I no longer had my car. Tried to cancel online. They wouldn't let me cancel because I told them I would buy a car within 6 months. Literally refused to allow me to cancel my car insurance. So after two months of not paying them they cancelled me. Then told me I wouldn't get insured again with a cancellation on my record. How evil. Glad they are going down.

State Farm also had the problem of ignoring my notification for cancellation and continued to send me bills when I switched insurance company. (It was during the pandemic when their offices were closed) It did fix the problem eventually and even gave me COVID related refund. (Less driving during pandemic, I guess). However, the experience of not being able to talk to a representative face to face and my calls were not being answered at all was extremely frustrating. I would not use any insurance company that doesn't not have a brick and mortar office near by, not necessarily for one insurance company exclusively, and does not have a human representative to answer the phone.

Geico is a crooked company - I left gecko this June after being with them for 23 years - I was divorced for 15 years and they still had my ex on my policy - I tried numerous times to have her removed and was never successful - what I found was that my premium was calculated with her on my policy - when she took out her own policy they had me on her policy - again increase premium - all the while they keep assuring me that my premium was on my driving only. I can go on and on - most states they do not have an office and the online phone Svs is to dissuade u from calling.

To all those still concerned. Geico has a two structure system. GFR and what used to be Regions. GFR is your local agent and is independent of Geicos metrics. For the last two years we(regional) have been getting ALOT of fuggly policies. (short list, Misrepresentation of policy, incorrect rates, subpar information) and its been causing geico to hemorrhage money. They (gfr) were given a warning last year. They didnt fix it.

If the insurance company is evading a claim and fails to answer the phone, customs can go to the brick and mortar office to talk to a human representative directly if there is one in the city. Customers cannot go to the employees' homes to deal with such problems.

"Actuarial perspective" : They increase your premium if you have enough accidents, regardless of whose fault it is, whether that is verified by police to not be your fault AND the other party's insurance actually paid, and didn't really cost your insurance anything. Or make you pay a higher premium if your vehicle has only two seats (let alone one), and/or if it's a certain color or brand, because somehow that means you're more prone to getting into an accident even if for example in that fatal crash a few weeks ago it was a overspeeding, boring Toyota that crashed into a classic Mustang (and the week before that it was a boring Honda that caused a head-on crash into a minivan).

Selling insurance in CA is hard. I use to sell insurance and not having flexibility like other states do, like pulling credit, hurts people. Then CA laws allowing people with DL from other countries and using that experience in CA is not fair. Businesses just don't want to put up with CA socialist rules. It's called right, rate right risk.

I'm an insurance agent here in California. I enjoy what I'm doing and always make it customer's first. I've seen the struggle in the industry through the years especially in California. When competing against Geico, I often wondered how they always were able to provide coverage so cheap. Unfortunately, cheap means you can't keep the lights on and pay all the expenses when running a business. If anyone needs anything, I'm here to help.

Im a geico customer I opened my policy online never went to an office. I havent really needed much. Just paid my car off this month, removed the financial lien holder so.... I hope to hang with them for a bit longer. Although this closure is alarming. Them demanding to be able to charge more money is robbery im glad they are not able to commit. If geico leaving physical locations prevents them from price gauging then let them go! Everytime residents/businesses leave they make a lot of crybaby attention. But look around, there is no exodus.
