Excellent video and good editing. Part numbers are front and center. Audio is post video production and includes great information at the appropriate times without all of the clutter found in other videos. I’m doing this along with the crank seal. Thanks for this. Great job.

Hello , i have a problem with my e60, the climate controll only blows air through the vents in the middle of the car, on the middle of the dashboard, and in the back of center consoll towards the backseats) not on the sides on the dash or in front of the dash. Do you know what can be the problem?

Nice video. I have 523i 2005 without any oil leaking. The mechanic says it is very rare case on this engine. Besides often oil leaking, this engine is vell known for the oil consumption as well. Add some video about this issue as well. Cheers!

Goran Dzelajlija Thanks man and we can definitely do a future video about oil consumption. Here in Virginia where I live pretty much every six cylinder BMW pre 2009ish leaks a ton of oil... Gaskets really take a beating in our climate. The entire front and belly of the engine was covered in oil but my buddy didn’t notice any spots on his driveway... kinda had to talk him into letting me do it. But this engine is also known for eating serpentine belts because of this leak so it’s definitely worth taking a good look at the front with a flashlight. Hope this helps some.

Good informative video, but I cannot understand how many people do this job by undoing the hardest bolt to get to, last. If you undo that one first (on the oil filter housing), the other bolts will hold it in place, so you are not wrestling with it as it comes loose.

I really don’t think it matters I’m definitely not wrestling a 5 pound oil filter housing 😂🤷♂️ also sometimes having some wiggle on the part makes it easier to remove bolts by hand but you can start with whatever bolt you want.

I use the “gunk” brand degreaser and then follow up with “purple power” I also have a curated collection of toilet brushes of different shapes and sizes that I use.

Matt, this video is fantastic. I have two N52B30's and both need this job. BMW quoted me 850, each. I am curious, why did you remove the serpentine belt in this case? I am considering changing the belt on my E60 530 (93k) but my 2011 F25 x3 only has 75k on the clock. I am thinking, if it is a requirement to remove the belt, then I will change both when I perform the fix. Any thoughts you have would be appreciated.

I take it he didn't want to get oil and coolant on it. There actually is a big reason to fix this leak. It actually is a manufacturing flaw by bmw. Oil will eventually fall onto the serpentine and cause it to slip off. The belt literally has no where to go and ends up being ingested by the engine. Once inside the engine it will cause catastrophic damage (aka blow the engine up). You wouldn't want the serpentine to slip off anyway while using the car. So it is best to just remove it to prevent any possibility of getting any slippage. BMW is aware of the issue and just recommends replacing the gasket.

I really don’t think it would make much of a difference. If you feel that it would be easier though it’s not a huge deal to pull it.

It will leak all over the alternator belt and damage it not to mention fling oil all over the front of the engine and makes a mess of it
