I discovered this by accident. I was washing my hair in my kid’s shower and left my leave in conditioner in my shower. I refuse to track across the house for my leave-in. Therefore, all I had was gel and it’s been the best thing ever. All accidents aren’t bad!

Yep, I was going gel only wash and gos for a while, now I have transitioned to moisture only lol. Sometimes I still do gel only, or I do a really light gel. It has my hair big, shape on fleek, and curls popping. All of these products have never been necessary. Plus you save a lot more money when you keep it simple.

Humectant gels specifically are the move and a gel cast is not dry hair 😂 I see a few of those comments. You can break the cast or use less hold gels but your hair won’t live in the set as long. But yea. Get y’all some humectant gels and quit wasting money lol

I have started doing the same thing. However, I do co wash daily and shampoo weekly. I've been saying for the longest time, I really don't need to use anything but gel in my hair. Especially since I co wash daily. It has made a huge difference. Another thing I also do is use the gel on damp hair. Thanks for this

I don’t think I would ever fully commit to a gel only wash n go but I have done it. As long as the gel still gives me hold and moisture, I’m completely fine. One of the gels I’ve used by itself was the UFD Curly Magic.

I only use one styler in my hair also. For the last year, I’ve been using gel. But today I decided to get some mousse and play with that as my one styler on some days. My hair looks so much better without creams.

Girl!! I’m here to thank you for this!! My hair has been acting up lately and was a frizzy mess! I tried gel only the first time and I wasn’t too crazy about it.. but I didn’t give up. After the third time and using a leave in conditioner my hair is looking AMAZING! It’s sooo shining, bouncy, airy. So beautiful. I never thought this was possible with just gel and a leave in. You make soooo much sense. I was using creme, oil, grease and then gel. Wayyyyy too much products.. I thought the more the better. My hair lays down with no frizz using gel only. When I use creams,butters and oils my curls aren't defined or sleek just greasy and unkept like I barely did anything to my hair. All of the extra weighs my hair down. Olive eco styler gel works for me because one of the ingredients in it is glycerin and that's moisturizing.

When I first became natural I used a leave in and a curl cream. I’m 4 years in my hair journey and now only style my hair with a moisturizing leave in and gel. And my hair is flourishing and not dry I was the same way I thought my hair would be dry. I still use a leave in because I have thick 4a hair and my hair loves extra moisture. I use a liquid leave in spray so that my hair is light and not weighed down.

Omg, I was afraid to try this but I used bomb ass fro only after my wash and go last night and the results were amazing! Super defined and moisturized!! The idea of one product for my wash and go cut down on so much time and it feels so much softer! Thanks curlfriend 🥰🥰

I tried this with the Uncle Funky's Curly Magic and my curls weren't defined as it dried so I just rinsed it out when I got back home and applied Aunt Jackie's Quench and Wetline and I'm happy with these results

I’ve never used cream stylers, my hair can’t take heavy creams or even leave-in’s because my strands are thin, so my wash and go’s are wash, deep condition, lots of water 💦 and high quality botanical gels. Period! I’ve never related to girls using 3 stylers… And no, my curls are not dry because I’m low porosity so hydration stays in, but I also don’t use co-wash, I wash my hair everything penetrates better ! Love having simple routines. I've been a 2 product wash n go for a few years. Instead of using cream leave in, I've been using liquid spray leave in. I swear by Urban Hydration Detangling Spray. Black owned and for low porosity hair🥰

I finally tried gel only and I love it!! I was waiting for my cut and then I did the clay detox. Deep conditioner then water and gel only in the shower!!! Love love love the results!!! I used my new Shark dryer with diffuser attachment and was 90% dry in 20 minutes! Thank you, I won’t be going back.

Love this video! I will say tho I have been using the crystal eco styler gel with the gel only method for a year now and I pre poo with African pride, wash with jbco shampoo from as I am and deep condition with jbco mask from as I am and I know eco gets all the hate but it’s a humectant and has wheat protein, a lot of the ingredients in eco are in tons of other gels, my wash n gos last up to two weeks but I deep condition weekly(when I’m not being lazy lol) but it’s a product that really works for type 4 hair! Especially the kinkier hair types that want to achieve a wash n go🤍

You need to “scrunch out the crunch”. Use your hands to scrunch the crunchy hair and it will break the hard cast that the gel makes and then your curls will be soft! You can also “clap out the crunch”

I completely agree with this method. Haven’t done it, but I have followed I am black girl curls in saying we don’t need to add oils to our regimen. My hair is thriving since cutting it out. BUT. Idk about stopping wet line 😅 it’s a decent amount of gel for a good price and these don’t last forever when you need a lot of product. So I can fathom spending $20 every month for half the amount of wet line

The only time I do a wash n go with gel only is when I need it to dry fast but it requires a lot of refreshing throughout the week (spray leave ins) When I use a leave in at the beginning I only have to shake my hair and go for 7 days.

I wish i could do that! I don't know what i'm doing wrong. If i use a leave in my hair looks good for one day and after that it loses definition real quick. If i use gel only it's really defined but also crunchy, lasts for 2 days and than gets sahara dry. So nothing really works :(

@@melanie5289 how many leave in/ gel combinations have you tried? I have used some gels that no matter what it dries my hair or it doesn’t keep a hold. Even when the influencers love them my hair doesn’t. Then I have some that no matter what my hair loves the gel and leave in combo. Also it depends on what you’re going for. Kinky curly gives me crunch and Camille Rose gives me fluffy. It’s all about what you like. Also the weather. I never use a gel or leave in that has glycerin when I know it’s going to rain. It always ends up in a puff. Hopefully that helps.

Innersence i create hold gives me a good cast and curls that will last 2 days (which is a win for me). Thnx for the glycerin tip, i will look in to that!

Depends on the gel.. I felt the same way until I switched my gels up after my 1st appointment with a cut it kinky curl specialist.. I learned in my appt what gel(s) worked well for my hair with just water alone.. And honestly, I don't think I could go back.. Especially now that wash days are soooo quick and easy.. And I never have build up or an itchy scalp.. I couldn't see me being paid to go back to LOC/LCO method.. Lol..

I find the gel is never enough! Dippty Do gel was too heavy for me and gel on its own too light. Sooooo i go cream, soft gel (blueberry bliss jelly) then my beloved green eco styler gel (very little per section). This works best on damp to wetish hair. Its all a trial and error game. I hopw it helps someone.

Depends on what gel you used and your technique.. There are soooo many tutorials up now on the whole blackgirlcurl method of the wash and go.. Depending on what gel you used, there will be a cast.. I like the cast because for me that means 5 or so days out of my style.. Good luck on your journey to find what best works for your hair..
