I have never heard of, or seen anyone use glycerine with gel pens. I happen to have some and this really makes blending a snap. Thank you so much for your series. I just bought my first gel pens for art in December, so this is a new medium for me and I am having a great time using them.

Recently i purchased a short length of clear vinyl sheeting off a big roll from the plastic store and chopped it up into various paper size 9 x 12, 17 x 11 etc. now for bleed prevention i put between pad pages and i have it under a single sheet on my worktop and get a lovely soft resistance for colouring and inking or over my guidelines or sketch behind my paper to save it getting soiled but as it is transprent i can still see my linez or outlines.

Another tip that works for glycerin and gel pens, cotton bud's. Instead of a paint brush use a cotton bud, you can mix your gels and glitter pens with it as well. It blends in better than with a paint brush.

You have opened a whole new artistic door for me, I can't thank you enough. I started surfing not for coloring but to learn the medium of colored pencil as my goal is art journaling and mixed media. I never thought I would find something to do with gel pens! I've shared this with several friends who I know will love this as much as I do. I love how it looks like alcohol inks but it's not curling or puckering the page. Have you tried using the glycerin with markers? I love how this looks like an illustration. I would also like to see if you'd be able to blend in white for a highlight like you would with pencil. I also wonder how glycerin or gamsol would work in a water brush. I've been an acrylic painter for years (both canvas art and crafting) but there are things that I'm seeing that I can incorporate into my painting. If you ever want to work acrylics like you are here with the gel pens, you can use personal lubricant (KY or store brand, Walmart carries a brand that is 88¢ for a 3 oz tube. It allows you to not only thin the paint if you want to do a glaze or a wash, but it also works as a slow dry medium. I can't wait to get some glycerin in my arsenal to use with the gel pens and to try it with my acrylics. Thanks so much for your videos and the instruction content.

First off, I wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your videos. I really get some good ideas for my coloring! For the glycerine, once you lay it down and put the gel pen color down, how long does it take for the whole thing to dry? Of course I don't want all that beautiful color to smear when the coloring book pages are closed.

@@anxietykraftskrisi9404 I did try all three. The oils end up soaking into the paper and ruining what you’re doing. The glycerin doesn’t.

Glycerin is a humectant (moisturizing agent) so there is no need to say humectant Glycerin. It just sounds redundant and might confuse people who aren't familiar with glycerin.

Dear Jennifer, I know this is off topic. I really enjoyed you Live Video with you analogous picture I watched your entire process. I am a relatively new subscriber so I came across to after it aired. I was wondering under which color on the color wheel does coral fall. Since I was thinking of do the challenge for my own satisfaction, and to break in my new Aqua Blends watercolor pencils. Since your color wheel doesn't have a break down of the shades under the major colors on the wheel. I was a little curious? It is just an idea but maybe you could do a color wheel like the one I mentioned? I think you showed in the analogous theory video. Thank-you for your time.

Hi. I am too lazy to find out if anyone has asked you this before, if so my apologies. Does the glycerine bleed through (coloring books) paper?
@ColoringBliss6 жыл бұрын
Glycerin is wet, so if you use a lot it will soak through. Just use a small amount and a thicker paper and you will be good to go. If in doubt, just test it on the title page of a book so you will have peace of mind.

Is there more than one kind of Glycerin? I went to Michael's and bought Wilton Glycerin and I am not sure if I bought the wrong kind or I just don't know how to use it for blending, everytime I try, the gel does not flow, the brush becomes sticky and I just find this technique very hard. Am I suppose to blend this glycerin with something to make it more usable?
@ColoringBliss7 жыл бұрын
You need vegetables glycerin which is probably what you got. Just guessing by your comment...it sounds like you may be using too much. Glycerin is naturally sticky and slick so a very small amount goes a long way. You can add a small amount of water to the glycerin if you would like. Experiment in a separate bowl to see if you find something that works better for you. I usually use straight glycerin. I plan to do a follow up video on this technique in the new year.

How do I find out which gel pens are "juicier" ?
@Uniacoty4 жыл бұрын
Just look for sakura gelly roll. They are try best and inexpensive
@Xessa822 жыл бұрын
@@Uniacoty they are definitely not inexpensive. I own a ton of gel pens of all different brands and kinds (well over 500 pens) and the Gelly Rolls are by far the most expensive of all of them. You can buy packs of over 100 gel pens for the same price as a pack of 12 Gelly Rolls. I do agree though that Gelly Rolls are juicy specifically the moonlight collection. I have a set of 120 gel pens from Aen Art that are pretty juicy although the classic pens in that set aren't the juiciest however it does come with 20 classic pens which is quite a large selection compared to most sets. The classics in that set are also .38mm as well. The neons in that set are super juicy and the metallics are the perfect combo of pigment to metallic. I have a set of 48 glitter gel pens from Typecho that are also semi juicy and if you layer them the colors are pretty vivid. I have a ton of other sets but those are my favorites right now. If you like opaque gel pens like the moonlight collection from Gelly Roll then you might like my newest find. It's a set of 26 opaque gel pens from MiSiBao. They're retractable gel pens with each pen having a letter of the alphabet on them. Amazon has them listed as "MiSiBao 26 Color Letters Soft Touch Pure Gel Ink Pens". They have so many amazing opaque colors I have never seen in any gel pen set I own or have looked at. They color much like the Gelly Roll Moonlight pens. They all work absolutely perfectly, are super vivid, color so smoothly, and only one layer is needed. They're some of the best gel pens I have ever used. The only downside to them is that they do dry pretty fast and once they're dry you can't really color back over them that well if you needed to. They're perfect for coloring and writing both though.
@Uniacoty2 жыл бұрын
@@Xessa82 Well that is true, they are quite expensive when compared to some other pens however personally I found them to be far better than cheaper brands that I have tried so it makes them worth the cost. I do like Uni ball's metallic gel pens but they cost about the same. I will check out MiSiBao, opaque pens are my favorite since I like to draw on black paper. Thank you.
