Hi - if you're using a Gelli brand of plate, I'm not sure the alcohol inks will lift off the way they do with the Gel Press plate as shown in the video? I'm not 100% sure (I'm still rather new to this brand), but I recall reading the complete release of media from the plate is specific to the Gel Press brand. Just wanted to give you a heads up in case the alcohol inks won't release from your Gelli plate and leave it stained.
@watercolorseasons53216 жыл бұрын
HI, I did not realize there is a difference. I recently got a Gelli plate and planned on doing this...now I think I should call the company who makes Gelli plates and ask. If I need to get a Gel Press Plate? Then of course I will LOL Thank you for the heads up. I may get it anyway...……..that way I have the Gelli for acrylic available all the time and same for the alcohol inks with the Gel Press Plate.

Alcohol Inks aren't fabric permanent unless they've actually absorbed through the fibers. If you were making something that isn't going to be washable, then yes. But you would definitely want to apply some sort of acrylic UV sealer, as alcohol inks are dye-based and assuming you aren't framing the item, they will fade without it.

Hi, just curious, you leave the plastic storage cover on the gel when you take it out of the package? Is this to protect the gel when using ink? I've only used acrylic paint to make paper before and also didn't leave the plastic cover on my gel so want to be sure I understand why the plastic is left on. love the video and your results! thanks

We advise throwing the mylar away or putting it aside to use for a different purpose once it's removed from the gel plate the first time. Sally Lynn often leaves one side on permanently, never removed, to protect the plate when doing work on a wood surface or otherwise. But that's really the only reason to ever maintain those mylar sheets
@manuelaherr90276 жыл бұрын
Dearest Sally! I have now my Gel Press, it is the one that you developped! I had way cheaper options too, but I wanted yours! I know that if I have a problem with something with the Gel Press you help me and I trust you! I hope you can help me with my problem I have... I spent all my money to get the Gel Press! I wanted to make ATC backgrounds with my Gel Press and I am still layering! But I wanted to use the Gel Press for transfers,too. There comes my problem: I tried to print my picture on baking paper but it got stuck in my inkjet printer,because we only have rolls of baking paper and it is brown! I taped it on a regular copy paper and it did not work! Next I tried to print my picture on a plastic divider that I had sanded down and it went without any problems through my printer, but as I layed it on my Gel Press, the ink smeared all over and the print I got looked terrible! But I want to put a picture of me on my ATC's... But how? I don't have Yupo Paper and cannot afford it. I only have some sheets of label left, but the side on the back of the labels have 4 thin cuts in it and is no whole sheet! I have now taped the cuts on the back while the big label is still on it, I know that it will get through my printer, but I don't know if it works with the Gel Press for a color or black and white transfer print??? Do you have any tipps, suggestions for me dear Sally? I would really appreciate it! Please help me out, dearest Sally! Already thank you! Be blessed! Lots of Love from me, Manuela from Germany , to you dearest Sally!

Hi question please. Do the alcohol inks ruin the plastic of the stencils and use of it on rubber stamps? This is a great video very well done . I am however concerned about the use of alcohol ink on rubber and plastic. Thanks for sharing your talent and answering my questions.
@SallyLynnMacDonald6 жыл бұрын
janet west it doesn't hurt the stencils at all. They're plastic and even Mary Beth Shaw of Stencil Girl was using them at our booth at the Creativation trade show. If you don't want the ink to reactivate on your next project that you're using alcohol ink on, then you could simply clean them off with a bit of rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer.
@SallyLynnMacDonald6 жыл бұрын
janet west as to the rubber stamps, it is no worse than using Stazon which is a solvent-based ink. If you're concerned about drying simply clean them off, again with a little gel hand sanitizer. I haven't experienced any cracking and I use my rubber stamps all the time. I wouldn't do this technique however with an acrylic photopolymer stamp. I don't think it's hardy enough for even Stazon work over time.

How would you seal this ?
@GelPress6 жыл бұрын
You definitely have to avoid anything but an acrylic UV sealer. Regular Krylon would just move and reactivate the alcohol ink, there's a brand called PYM II that Sally Lynn loves, but it's hard to find. Etsy is a source.
@GelPress6 жыл бұрын
You can also spread very thin layer of PPA adhesive from us artquest onto the gel plate similar to how you would put a layer of paint and then place the plate over your journal to apply the sealer directly to the page
@crystalwatson98116 жыл бұрын
There is a spray from Krylon called Kamar that can be used to "set" the alcohol ink enough to use another sealant on top. You can get it online or in places like WalMart.
