I often make the case that grindewald is more powerful than voldermort. Dumbledore said himself that he was " a shade more skillfull" than grindewald. While Dumbledore appeared to be more than a shade more skillfull then voldermort. I know grindewald had the elder wand and voldermort did not. Imo it counts towards power rating in a duel though. Making Dumbledore the best of the three ofc. By a Solid step.

davy jones trust me Grindelwald will be buffed up soon because of the FB series. JK made Voldy the stronger Dark Lord before because Voldy is the one in the spotlight she needs to make sure the readers and audiences see him as the baddest. I think that it's definitely noteworthy to mention Dumbledore's seeds of disliking of muggles (definitely exacerbated by Grindelwald though), due to the assault of his sister by a group of muggles. His father used magic on them in revenge, and sentenced to Azkaban, and later died in said prison.

I see the final battle going mostly respectfully for a time, to a standstill. Grindelwald casts the killing curse at Dumbledore, the latter is heartbroken at the severity of the attempt on his life, and unleashes a series of non-lethal spells to disarm and repel Grindelwald so as to obtain the Elder Wand and allow Grindelwald the mercy that he did not grant Dumbledore. Grindelwald regrets casting the killing curse at Dumbledore, and so he tries to atone by denying Voldemort what he wants.

I have a theory which I'm 99.9999....% sure is NOT true, but which I sort of *want* to be true: That Grindelwald became, at some point, the legitimate Minister for Magic in one of the larger Ministries in Europe, and formed an open alliance with other Ministers, possibly taking advantage of wizards' fears of the looming Muggle war (I doubt if even wizards had full, impenetrable protection from the most devastating weapons used in that war). He took power in the 1930s, and later used the horrors of World War II to cover up some the destruction he caused and justify his continued oppression of any Muggle sympathizers in the wizarding world under his control. The British Ministry was one of the few which resisted, and even they began resisting only after the British Minister was replaced (that part *is* canonical -- check the list of British Ministers for Magic on Pottermore, where it states that the British Minister, Leonard Spencer-Moon, was appointed in 1939 after his predecessor, Hector Fawley, failed to contain Grindelwald). After his defeat, the European wizarding world became so horrified at allowing a Dark Wizard become their leader, that they did their best to erase his status as legitimately-appointed Minister from memory, and create a myth that he rose through Dark magic alone.

Uri Golomb Actually Grindelwald didn't have that much influence in the U.K nor in Europe. I believe it's because he was afraid of Dumbledore since he knew how powerful he truly was - Dumbledore was proposed the post of minister around that time by the way.

The Elder wand Passes from one owner to the next by KILLING so neither Grindelwald or Dumbledore ever technically owned the wand. So, you might be asking how did Harry defeat Voldemort since he killed the last owner of the Elder wand well by belief is that the Elder wand did not see Voldemort as its owner because at the time the only shard of Voldemort's soul left was in Voldemort making it see only part of him and so when Harry "killed" Voldemort he won the wand's allegiance

I watch a video on the subject cannot remember who it was made by but they gave me the idea But think doses it make scene that if someone took one of your wands that all of your other wands would then belong to them dose that make any sense to you also have you thought how over powered the Expelliarmus spell would be if you could disarm someone and then own their wand This is also covered in the video and I think that all wands will change masters differently and that the fact that the elder wand has past hands by blood means that it will only see you as its true master if you have "killed" the previous one meaning that Harry is killed the killer will own the Elder Wand but not know it

I take issue with "second, only to Lord Voldimort". I believe he was vastly superior to Tom. Gringawald learned all sorts of magic, while Tom only learned human magic, making Gringawald much more knowledgable in magic than Tom. If Gringawald had his wand in jail, Tom wouldn't have stood a chance against him.

Hmmmm. lets think. It can not be a coincidence that Grindelwald rose to power in the late 30s and was defeated in 1945 and that his reign of terror was mostly confined to mainland Europe. What else was happening in Europe at that same time? oh yeah WW2 and the holocaust where millions of civilians and soldiers died and in the case of the holocaust why? Because one group declared they were better than any other group and that some groups were unworthy to even live. I think J.
