Tim Merk not to mention the school and staff itself. We saw how defenses could be organized in the deathly hallows. In the first war, both the order and the ministry would have rallied to defend the school if they heard Voldemort was approaching Hogwarts.

I think the explanation is actually much simpler - remember how Riddle had Ginny kill all the roosters near the school in Chamber of Secrets? Anyone who knows about basilisks in the wizarding world knows that the crow of a rooster is fatal to the magical beast. It would just be a simple matter of summoning a rooster or transfiguring one to take out what would otherwise be an unstoppable weapon.

Slytherin put the Basilisk in the chamber to “cleanse” the school of Muggle borns. Voldemort also wanted Muggle borns to suffer so I think he would have thought the Basilisk would be most useful where it was, in the school. Maybe Slytherin had made it so that the Basilisk couldn’t leave the castle, as its job was to “protect” the school that Slytherin loved so much.

Simple answer: He never outright returned to Hogwarts because of Dumbledore. Hogwarts was highly protected, and Dumbledore was there. He knew Dumbledore would give him trouble and a great fight, especially to protect the students. The last time he was there, he was applying for a job Dumbledore was onto him. And after then he was on the back of Quirell's head, he wasn't powerful enough to retrieve the Snake then. He might have if he was successful killing Harry then. The only other time he was powerful enough to, and had infiltrated Hogwarts, was when Harry killed the damn thing. And he would've used either Harry's or Ginny's death for it.

@ameliashephard28764 жыл бұрын
Tom in COS was the largest fragment of soul. You could call it, Voldemort at his most human. By the time his new body was created his soul had been so fractured and damaged. What was left in his new body was a tiny piece. Not much larger than the splinter that inhabited Harry Potter. So what was left over was so inhuman and freakish it completely lost all which was left of his humanity. Tom Riddle. That's why I believe each soul fragment when released from the other horcruxes were monstrous. Voldey also only looks like a snake due to absorbing maladictus snake venom which he used to sustain himself between drinking unicorn blood prior to getting a new body.
@Xehanort104 жыл бұрын
It was just one part of his soul. And the reason it looks more human is because Riddle created it while he still looked human before he'd created enough Horcruxes to become the bald, pale, noseless red eyed snake thing he turned into as Voldemort.

@BjornV19944 жыл бұрын
Seeing how Myrtle died with her glasses on, going by her clothing and looks, I would say that glasses won't save you. While it is always said that direct eye contact is needed, I think that watching it through glass is direct enough and the thing that saved the others (resulting in petrification instead of death), is the fact that their perception of the basilisk was altered just enough to lower its lethality. Three of the known victims, saw a reflection or in other words a mirror image, one saw it smaller than it was in reality through a camera lense and the final known victim saw it through a ghost (who aren't completely transparent, like glass). So if you saw the basilisk through glasses or a window, you probably will die.
@kristineamn34364 жыл бұрын
Found this on hp fandom wiki "When a live victim looks directly into the Basilisk's eyes, it results in instant death. Although looking at the eyes through camera lens or a ghost's transparent body would dampen the lethal effects, looking through a pair of glasses does not offer the same protection, because glasses still allow one's line of vision to connect directly and clearly with the serpent's eyes. Myrtle Warren was such an unfortunate person, as her wearing glasses did not save her from death when she looked directly at the Serpent of Slytherin's eyes" - ↑ 5.0 5.1 16 July, 2005 press conference at Accio Q, uote!

5:42 Regarding the basilisk glare, there's a very simple answer: Riddle was a memory, so the basilisk looking at him would not affect him. Also, the basilisk was used for a specific purpose: to purge the school of muggle borns. I don't think Voldemort would deviate from that. Plus, given the dangerous nature of the beast, I think it would be too much of a headache to use it outside of Hogwarts. Plus, I think Voldemort planned to reopen the chamber. However, for the battle at hogwarts, I think the basilisk would have been a great tool to help Voldemort. At the same time, I don't think Voldemort gave it anymore thought once the chamber was closed. I can also see the basilisk getting way out of hand anyways, so it was probably a weapon left for its specific purpose. Also, I don't think Voldemort would want the basilisk anywhere near Nagini.

I have the same question. Maybe they take him to long to grow. I guess that a Basiliks needs at least 100 years to get to full size comared to their immense lifespan. Maybe he didnt want to wait that long. But to see Voldemort with an army of Basiliks would be completly crazy and broken. Reminds me a bit of Morgoth´s Balrog army tbh :D

@@Chilli_76 I also have a lot of questions about the Hacrux Because at some point Voldemort's body will get old and weak 'if he survived and won the war' because Nicholas Flamel did too But would Voldemort just create a new body? One day he would run out of his father's bones and Harry died so he can't use his blood?

My theory on why he didn't turn the Basilisk into a horcrux is the same reason it would be valuable in a wizarding war. It's resistant to magic. To all magic? I'm not sure. I don't think he would have risked trying to make it into one, with all of the negative affects and assuming the process is difficult, when he knew it was resistant to magic and more than likely wouldn't work in the end. I would assume the negative affects would take effect during the process, not so much after the process is complete

I bet had Voldemort tried to take over Hogwarts during the First Wizarding War he'd have set the basilisk on Muggle born students. But because his failed attempt to kill Harry destroyed his body that didn't end up happening. He was pissed off that Lucius got one of his Horcruxes destroyed and one of his backup plans killed just so Lucius could spite Arthur Weasley. His diary Horcrux self even said that he left the diary as a backup hoping the part of his soul in it would possess somebody, wake the basilisk up and set it loose since if he'd tried to open the Chamber while he was still a student after framing Hagrid he'd have been found out.

5:17 I loved that shot of Harry tripping as a kid, but now that I’m an adult I have to wonder how they shot that. Either they used CGI or stunt double...or Daniel Radcliffe actually did a sliding trip headfirst.

He left it at Hogwarts because he wanted there to always be a weapon he could use at Hogwarts/against Dumbledore. Also, there's the basilisk's weakness to a rooster's crow.

The chamber of secrets can only be opened every 50 years of the chamber's birth otherwise voldemort would have completed salazar slytherin's work while his time at hogwarts instead of waiting 50 years

My bigger question was why he didn't hide a horcrux in the chamber, especially Slytherin's locket. It was known to practically no one outside of the Gaunts, of which he was one of only two remaining, and was essentially password protected by requiring a parselmouth (again mainly Gaunts). If at all someone found it and got in there, it would be protected by the basilisk, and of course it would be quite a fitting place to store the horcrux made of Slytherin's artefact. Ofc Harry turns out to manage to beat all these protections, but then that's true of all the other hiding places as well.
@pontusbackman186311 ай бұрын
Good point but if I remember it right (a while since I have read the book) he hid the horcruxes at Hogwarts when he was there applying for the job as DADA. Meaning he hsd a bit tight time schedule to hide his horcruxes. Would likely have been very risky to open the Chamber. Plus, getting caught whike opening it would have exposed the truth that it never was Hagrid. Also... if I remember it right, another reason was his arrogance made him feel special, he never gave it a thought that others could find the Room of Requirement too.. he believed it appeared to him cause he was so damn special..
@pontusbackman186311 ай бұрын
Anyway he felt Hogwarts was the LEAST safe place for a horcrux. His connection to the school was there for all to see, given there even existed trophies with his name on it. But to find the others, you would need to find out about his life BEFORE Hogwarts... and he was so sure nobody could ever know.. So he did not even put effort in it, as he felt so sure the others were safe. He chose to hide it in Hogwarts only because of some sentimental reason, as the school had meant so much to him

He would never risk the beast hatched by his famous ancestor. The real question is why Riddle didn't hatch more himself. If he's hatched one himself in the 40's and made that a horcrux. Hidden it away somewhere finding another cave even further away from civilization than the one where he put the inferi. If Nagini was good enough to be a vessel horcrux for him, you can only imagine that if he successfully hatched a basalisk of his own he definitely would have used that thing for a horcrux. Yes it technically comes with a time limit but that's why he has the others. A thousand years was much longer than even Wizards typically lived. I can see the unnecessary risk to his own forces being a good reason not to bring it into battle. Even leading the line you can't imagine there would be that many people who even for fear of Voldemort himself would go anywhere near a basilisk. Even just following behind it would put some followers off. As much crap as we give Voldemort for being really bad at planning anything ( see Super Carlin Brothers). The man wasn't stupid he understood what motivated people he understood how to control a large group. And bringing a basilisk in to that equation was just more trouble than it was worth.
@angelwhispers20604 жыл бұрын
@dr103 I'm NOT saying that Tom Riddle hatched the basilisk in the chamber. I'm staying with all his magical knowledge if He was really intent on evil world domination, he really should have. I know that the Basilisk in the chamber was hatched by Salazar Slytherin that's literally what I said in the first statement. And actually we the readers know exactly how basilisks are made and it's completely easy and since Tom is a Parseltongue it would have been super easy for him. It just get a chicken egg when it's about to hatch and put a toad over it before can hatch. It's in the video. I can imagine the information on the practice as well as the fact that it was highly illegal would have been readily available to a young brilliant Tom Riddle. He managed to find out about horcruxes when the information was presumably a lot more carefully hidden. The dangers of Basalisk breeding would have been the sort of thing that they used as an example of why you really shouldn't do dark magic. No one even mentioned the word horcruxes in public, that was part of the big deal when he brought up the subject to Horace Slughorn. So if Tom Riddle can find out about such a dark and evil practice, you know he ran across the Basilisk breeding in his research somewhere. Because a Basilisk Is Magical Animal you don't need a pre-existing basilisk to breed them like you would a dog or horse.
