Hi Denise!🙂 Thank you for a great GP video!❤️ That would be a perfect technique for making stained glass style art using opaque black, transparent colors, and clear mediums to transfer onto clear substrates.
@DeniseLush3 жыл бұрын
Most definitely!
@rtd17913 жыл бұрын
Which substrate did you have in mind? Plexiglass, acetate, actual glass? Have you printed on any of these before? Seems like it would be tricky to get a complete print because most transparent substrates have slick surfaces. I make a faux stained glass for cards and window catchers with vellum and paint pens. I use paint pens because the leading has to be opaque. For color I use alcohol markers. My trick is to outline and color on both sides of the vellum. For window decoration I usually laminate a piece, but not for cards. The color eventually fades but it takes years even with Sharpies or Bic markers.
@DeniseLush3 жыл бұрын
@@rtd1791 I too think it would be a little difficult with it being a slick surface. I was thinking a piece of acetate or something thin like that.
@rtd17913 жыл бұрын
@@DeniseLush I have never even thought to use glass paint on a gel plate. It’s not something I typically have on hand. I think I have a bottle somewhere. But it seems to me that stained glass printing is something that would have to be worked out thru trial and error. I was mulling it over and thinking that using a glass paint, one that is transparent, or starting with a clear acrylic medium and then carefully adding colorant so as not to dramatically increase opacity is a good place to start. But I think the actual rub will be the “leading”. I don’t think it will be opaque enough because the stencil in your technique removes at least some of the paint meant to be leading. But you could always trace over the lines created by the stencil using an opaque paint pen. I have my doubts that a process like I’m thinking about will be as satisfying as the technique I already use on vellum. I trace over stained glass patterns but using a stencil would work too. Only one way to find out. Good news is I love the look your process creates with paper. No gel print is a bad gel print---just keep going, right?
@cherylalikhani59573 жыл бұрын
@@rtd1791 it wasn't with a gel plate and wasn't transparent but I did paint a reversed painting on plexiglass with acrylic in 1984 that did not chip or scrape off later. I know glass paints work on glass. Something to consider, if it is being used in a window or similarly to stained glass there will be limited handling and damage. I'm on a very limited budget so I was thinking for myself I would make homemade transparent paints using clear gloss gel medium with liquid watercolors (because I don't need to buy them) for the transparent paint (maybe a bit of mica for shimmery sparkle). For the substrate, probably to get the most for my budget would be to use acid-free, archival safe, polypropylene document protectors then open them at the seams to make two sheets each.

I have followed your steps and when I pull the print, the paper sticks to the gelli plate. I am using light weight card stock.. Also, I used a hair dryer to dry it before adding the top layer. Is that a problem? Most of the image seems like it is embedded in the gelli plate. Very hard to clean afterwards. Feeling frustrated.
@DeniseLush3 жыл бұрын
You should not use any heat tool on your gel plate. Do it without the heat tool and see if it works. If not, try varying the amount of paint. Is it a gel press plate?
