Thanks for the coffee...goes a long way as I buy beans here in Bozeman, MT and make cappuccinos at home.

We were exploring some BLM land for dinosaur tracks and noticed some of the rocks looked very different with our polarized sunglasses on. Shortly after we stumbled upon a tailings pile and what appeared to be a mine shaft. It all makes sense now. Cool video!!!

Short but definitely sweet! The iron staining and mineralisation seems to cover the whole geology of the valley. Remarkable location.

The Moab area is one of my favorite places to explore. The rock formations are pretty amazing.

Hello..thanks for the video...I'm 87 years old here in Las Vegas. Your video reminds me when I was six years old living in Grand Junction. My mother's cousin was a geologist living in Moab and talked my dad into moving from Calif to go prospecting. They worked several small claims for a few years and struck the Claim for the Rio Algum Lisbon Valley mine... My dad give up his share in 1962. Mine operated 17 years 24/7 and refinery for the Western Slope was built at that mine. All that is left is three small lakes. Area all around it have been claimed by various companies. I used to pick up dinosaur bones near the small mines in the early 50's..what fun...!

Good camera shot. Oh you walking into the darkness of an abandoned mine with the Geiger counter popping away. Scene out of a horror movie for sure. Nicely done.

Thanks. I want to go back there and show more. I got a little creeped out when I was there with a chair that was way off in the distance.

Beautiful scenery in so many of your videos! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😊 I hope you don’t get to glow in the dark…with all those radioactive mines and all 😄😉 I collect pre-1930s radium glass from Bohemia which glows a beautiful green in uv light. I’m looking for a Geiger counter, the best ones cost from upwards $1000 in Switzerland but…every man…should have one 🧪😊 Take care my friend and…keep…safe 👍👍

Oh cool! I want to go back to the US and do MOAB again. I actually found a piece of uranium ore on a walking trip there. It’s sitting right next to me in my glass case under a uranium glass bell. Always fun when people ask what that ugly rock is. And I point to the green and I say uranium. They all are like: “yeah right”. I get my Geiger counter lift the bell and they all freak initial. 😂

Yeah, not too radioactive, but there will definitely be radon accumulating with that kind of activity. Cool to see the mine!

The mine is cool because its close to that trail. It might get better a little deeper...but I didn't feel like taking that chance.

How is it that that mine was still open and accessible? I don't know if I would have even gone that far in, but it was cool to see in that far.

Any ideas as to the science as to why carnotite fluoresces under UV?
@RadioactiveDrew2 ай бұрын
I believe it has something to do with the oxidation state of the uranium in the ore. Only some deposits react to UV light.

I have been looking online to figure out *who* operated these mines in Utah. Was this more often a mom-and-pop mine operation - it does not seem that big corporations were involved? Seems like anyone with a wish to get rich / death wish could sign up for it, and they did?

Seems irresponsible to leave it open like that. People might unknowingly go in and stay long enough to get effected. Animals in the area must have 3 heads.
@RadioactiveDrew2 жыл бұрын
Believe it or not but that level of radiation is pretty low. Plenty of bats roost in old uranium mines and they seem to be doing okay.
