3:26 There's plenty to say about vault toilets! These are the USDA's SST "sweet smelling toilet" design that came out about twenty years ago. They may not look like much, but their airflow is engineered such that the vault toilet smell escapes out the big black pipe on top of the structure, and stays away from the user. If you've ever used a real hole-in-the-ground vault toilet, you'll instantly notice the drastic improvement that these provide.

Hi Sean and Kristy! We wanted to let you know that we are actually here at Goose Island campground now, and we have been for the past 12 days. We absolutely LOVE this area! We were here in 2021 (we were camping off Willow Springs at that time free dispursed camping then, now Utah raptor campground, which they have really made some great improvements). We actually saw your truck at the Mesa Arch parking lot in Canyonlands! Unfortunately, we didn't see you all at that time. We would absolutely love to meet you all someday! Oh, we actually saw (after they had jumped) base cliff jumpers this morning! We wish we could have seen the entire thing! They landed right behind our camper in site number 13! Thank you for your videos. We always enjoy watching them! Gary & Linda Hays

Hi Roger, Willow Springs is no longer free. That area is State of Utah School Trust Lands and it was designated last year as the new "Utah Rapter State Park" The State has put a fee kiosk there, and at the Dalton Wells Road. It's $15.00 a night to stay there. In the next few years a campground & visitor center will be built.

I did my last trip of the year to Moab. Stayed at Green River St. Pk. which I think is very nice. Then Dead Horse Point St. Pk. for the first time and it is really beautiful! Went down and got a fcfs at a BLM CG on the river past Goose Island. It was OK. One thing I realized is that due to the high canyon walls, you don't get much time for solar charging in October. FYI for visitors. Then beat it on home in an attempt to avoid the first snowstorm of the year. Glad I made it, because we had 50 mph winds and a foot of snow mid-October at my house! Good to see you back Sean and Christie!

Hey, Sean & Kristy, beginning to think out a plan to Moab, possibly Goose Island, after this recommendation. How is the trip from AL/FL? Any areas we should do a bit more research on or avoid before towing our Airstream via the route? Any mountains, bridges, etc that are of concern? Nice of you to include the hosts. Those folks have hearts of gold. Also curious, does the state, county or someone else contract to empty dumpsters, pit toilets and how do they get water and cleaning supplies to maintain those pristine amenities?
@ouRVisionnomadicliving
@ouRVisionnomadicliving Жыл бұрын
Hi, this is Sean (the camphost in the video) thanks for the kind comment. Because the BLM has 27 C.G.s in the area they employ a maintenance crew to maintain the campgrounds. Maintenance comes thru the CG and power washes the pit toilets twice a week, and will come as requested by the host if there is an issue. The BLM contracts with a garbage collection agency to empty the dumpsters as needed. They also contract with a septic company who routinely pumps out the pit toilets and hauls that human waste to Price, UT where it's processed.

If it is so competitive for spots they are almost all gone by 10 am then it seems you should find your spot, park in order that nobody else can claim it and then go pay for your fee at the envelope station. I assume you are allowed to do it in that order, park first, then pay, then go back (walk) and straighten and level up the trailer/RV last. Otherwise if you find a spot, circle back to the envelopes, pay, go (drive) back to the spot, it might have someone else sitting there instead and it creates an issue.

Thanks Sean for the blurb on trash. It's one of the camping worlds most serious topics. It's probably a good thing I'm not King, because the penalty for littering would be pretty serious. A couple of other notes about Goose Island. You do have cell phone service there, but you won't have it with most of the other sites to the East. Also, there is a natural spring with water coming right out of a pipe in the vertical rock wall on the south side of the road just 1/4 mile away. People fill their water jugs there for free. How are you to secure your site when you go out exploring during the day if you travel in a van or truck camper?
@ouRVisionnomadicliving
@ouRVisionnomadicliving Жыл бұрын
Hi Jack, this is Sean (the camphost in the video). Generally people who are traveling in vans, or even rental RVs that need to use those as transportation will leave a campchair in the site, or some other item that indicates the site is occupied, along with having filled out the fee envelope and placed the detatchable tag on the site post. That said we often have people who register for a site and do not leave anything. This can potentially be an issue. The reality is that if you find a site that does not appear to be claimed for the day (nothing there) you need to first check to site post to ensure the site has not been paid for. As the host I would walk around and check sites several times a day. If someone came in, registered for the site but failed to leave anything I would put a cone in the site to help make it "look" occupied. I would also recommend that once you register for a site, to take a picture of the site tag showing your info and when you checked in. Occassionally tags are removed by people who later claim the site was vacant when they arrived. Having a picture that is timestamped can help if there is an issue. If you have any other questions let me know. Safe Travels!!

What's your thoughts on the wisdom of "arrive on Mondays for best choice"? I'm over at Zion for the next three weeks, then afterwards I'm at Fruita for the first two weeks they're open (Capitol Reef,) and then something like 76 days unplanned until the WBCCI International Rally in Wyoming - and my desire is to do two 14 day BLM stints, followed by full service campground two or three days and then rinse, repeat until Wyoming... I've been looking at these BLM sites in Moab area for a while.

Hi Sean, we will be out there in late September. Is there 1. a dump station? 2. potable water source? 3. Do they accept the National Park Lifetime Senior Pass? Thank you so much. Private campgrounds are getting insane. $50-$180+ per night and they are full!

Hi Joe, this is Sean (the camphost in the video). There are 2 Maverick Gas Stations in town. The Maverick on the south side of town has a dump station and they allow RVers to dump, and fill fresh water for free there, Sean mentions this at the very end of the video. If you are able to fill water jugs, there is a spring located about a mile from the Goose Island C.G. called "Matrimony Spring" it is located about 300 yards east of the intersection of hwy 191 and 128. Its where I fetched water for us while hosting there. If you are the holder of a Senior N.P. Pass, or an Access N.P. Pass you are entitled to half off the camping fee at all of the BLM C.G.s in the area. In essence its 10 bucks a night to camp instead of 20. If you have any other questions let me know. Safe Travels!
