The Geminids meteor shower is my favourite meteor shower of the year. This year, I travelled to outback Australia to watch it under dark skies. This is what I experienced...

I remember going out to outback Australia when I used to live there(not exactly outback just outskirts of blue mountains) but it was really pretty. I love the composite you got looks really pretty.

Rohan, that campsite looks good with no stray lights like you get at a caravan park. I'd be interested in knowing where the good astro ones are located (that I can use my wind up camper trailer on). Re NUC, I had a similar issue with NUCs forgetting their network they were attached too. I started taking an ASUS touch screen monitor as a backup. It worked but was temperamental in the cold. A better idea was mounting a wifi router next to the NUC and just a short ethernet cable between the router and the NUC. I then just attach an iPad to the wifi network and that hasn't failed. The router also has a mobile network option so I have been putting a 365 day expiry prepaid SIM in it (BOOST for coverage on Telstra network). It will be interesting to see if you can stabilise that NUC wifi

The place was Manildra Showground, lovely and open sky view, lots of powered sites and reasonably priced. Your trailer would work well there.I have since got it working again (it seems Windows only boots up the hotspot if it's connected to the internet, so I have to have my phone sharing it's 4g connection). This can be unreliable too, so I think your idea of the wifi router sounds good!

@@AstroWithRoRo I got one with external cable and aerials but I also had some spare short stub types that just screw on unless I need the signal strength of the external aerials. My router runs on 12v. Its an older comset CM685V-6-G . The main think for a mobile router is check for Ethernet port, Telstra 4G, external aerial sockets and 12V

Do you know how to polar align in light polluted skies like Sydney?

The two best methods I’ve found are using sharp cap polar align or NINA 3 star polar align. Both work under light polluted skies.
