I always put a scented Bounce sheet in bins and it keeps everything in my basement a nice smell. Do t know if it would work for the boxes, but certainly think it would with clothing, but it might take a bit of time.

I've put nasty musty smelling items in the freezer and it really helped - and sometimes mildly musty items I put on a table outside if it was cold and sunny

Sprinkle the musty items with baking soda and let them sit out for a few days, then use a blow dryer on cool to blow off all the baking soda.

Put a couple of inches of cat litter in a closed tote with the items
