I couldn't help but notice the ceramic things . . . I wonder if anywhere on etsy, there's a section of just garage-sale-ceramics . . . Because etsy is online, people would not have to use so much gas money to go from garage sale to garage sale, looking for the perfect ceramic piece/ or bowl/etc. that matches their house decor. and/or their other cookware, utensils, dinner/breakfast/lunch-sets/etc. that they already have.

I have never heard of the service star in the window . Very interesting how proud of there children families were in the past . We've definitely went the wrong way on this . Your lucky to see a flag flying in a front yard now . If I ever see one of those star banners for sale I'll be buying it .

As a kid I remembered ILCO Company near where my Mom worked here in my city...Saw your lock so looked it up...Founded in 1888 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts in the United States, the Lockwood Lock company manufactured entrance door locks and padlocks, among other things, until 1975, when the company was purchased by the Independent Lock Company (ILCO), also of Fitchburg.

I have saved every card that my children and husband have ever given to me other than some that were lost in a house fire we had. Luckily most of them were in a fire proof filing cabinet that kept them safe. Some things were so smoke damaged that we had to dispose of those. Thank You for taking us with you to the yard sales. There are enough content creators out there providing- “what did it cost?, what will it sell for?” There are creators like yourself, providing the thrill of the hunt, the history behind things, and smiles and laughs along the way. We are looking for a little fun, not operational skills for running a resell business. That is what uniquely separates you from the pack. We do want you to make some income along the way. Personally and privately, that is your own business, as it should be.
@PaperandMoose4 жыл бұрын
I'd be awful telling people what to look for at thrift stores to buy for reselling....I leave the store empty-handed 95% of the time :0)
@rickeydonald47564 жыл бұрын
Paper and Moose you are correct! Buying and selling is such a personal and knowledge based decision. There is too much of this BOLO crap out there. Here is what to look for if you want to go for the wallet or the “real” money on the table. Strike now while it’s hot. Score big! Get out of your comfort zone if you are ever going to be serious about reselling for a living, so I am told and advised. I am now more confused than at any other time in my life. I’ve just learned that the advice is inconsistent and usually rooted in greed. I would call most of it wagging one’s own tail.
@sharonnowlin22974 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you!!! There are TOO many of those KZbin creators that are the ones like you said: "what did it cost?, what did it sell for and after the selling fees, what did I make?" out there already.! And just because they could make what they did, it sure doesn't mean that I could make the same!!! As for Renee, it's her sweet and honest self, taking us on the thrill of the hunt and especially the research and the history that she presents to us!! That's why so many of us LOVE her!
@6885annt4 жыл бұрын
Well what she pays for things and then resales them for is interesting! Especially when you find a good deal. The thrill of the hunt is fun but if you pick up something on the curb and can resale it and make money that is a win win!. Rene once said she wants to get her subscribers up to a certain amount do she can do this full time so if some express the interest in knowing the prices, I certainly would provide the info!

I like the fact your not focus on the value but more on the history and the value of its appearance of beauty . Money isn't everything and it's a shame people base the beauty and history on how much it's worth. Saving the past of our history is more important then making a buck.

Money without values, ethics, or conscience means a world lacking compassion and is not civilized. I know you have said you dislike Craigslist advertised garage sales. I agree with you as there's a lot of false advertising. Sales described as "huge" with only 2 tables of stuff. Saying it's a "moving sale" when it's just a reseller having their monthly sale. Using the "estate sale" moniker when it's not. And my experience this morning... Going at 7:30 AM to a garage sale advertised as starting at 8 AM to find a half-dozen people already there having sorted out all the good stuff. Garage sales are always random experiences. Whereas many have wasted my time with false advertising or retail prices, I've stumbled upon many with some terrific buys. For example, a few weeks ago I bought 15 Mad Magazines from the 1960s & 70s for $7 that I quickly sold on Ebay for $40 plus shipping. And that was around 9 AM when supposedly others had already been there.
@PaperandMoose4 жыл бұрын
I think I might try to stick with ads that have no pictures, see if they are better than those filled with pictures and so everyone knows what is there prior to the sale.
@stephendrake69274 жыл бұрын
@@PaperandMoose Or just read all the ads and go with the opposite of whatever adjectives they use. Some of the best garage sales are when I just drive around and spot signs for unadvertised garage sales.

Love yard sales, and they are slowly coming back to life where I live (KY) but, not quick enough for me! Yard sales are easy to social distance at: spread your stuff out in driveway/yard, and give people room to spread out while they look. Estate sales are harder. The nature of estate sales is they are usually an entire household worth of items so, are inside the home. I am going to my first estate sale of the season tomorrow morning and I expect there will be limiting of people at the door going in. We will see! Mask and car hand sanitizer at the ready!
