"Let's go to the lifepod and get a Peeper, that's a relaxing way to start a stream"... This actually reminded me of a playthrough I did once. The game glitched out, and when I got out of lifepod, the Reaper was flailing on the shallow grounds. What I think happend, he followed me from the Crash Zone, went throught the terrain (they do that sometime when they don't have enough space for their turning animation), and the game pushed him out in the Safe Zone. That was a fun experience. That was also how I found out that Reapers can be killed with a knife...

If you hold a fish in your hand and approach a reaper (the long fish you saw by the engine fragment), it'll eat the fish before it eats you so it gives you one extra bite- which could be enough to get away. You can also feed stalkers this way and they'll be temporarily friendly.

Markiplier did an early lets play of subnautica, so the devs added the doll as an easter egg of sorts. I would imagine his following size helped their sales significantly in the early days.

I've been watching Subnautica playthroughs ever since I saw Markiplier's. It's such a fun game to see people react to and explore. I don't think I've seen anyone put as much effort and resources into their base as Gem has, so that's been neat to see! Didn't even know "Large Room" existed

In December 2022 they released the «Subnautica 2.0» update, adding many things and improvements from BZ, including large rooms, glass domes, pinnable recipes, PDA pause, bars representing charge of the tools in the inventory, noticible fabricator UI improvements, separate buttons for toggling lights and map on the seaglide (it genuinely annoyed me so much when they were on one button), you can now run with a tool in hand, many bugfixes, etc. Very nice and big quality of life update which shows that developers didn't just forget about the game and moved on to the next ones.

You were concerned that you made little progress, but I must disagree. You got a awesome base, all the vehicles with the majority of upgrades and explored so much. You even have the cuddlefish. Now with the Cyclops and Prawn suit resource collection is gonna snowball. Totally head to the river with Sunny and Rosie to get Uranite for the nuclear power for infinite energy.

im no fan of nuklear power in subnautica but other than that i fully agree ^^ i mostly use thermal but you kinda need to have the right base location for that so for gemini i'd recommend to just plant some bloodoil to fuel her biogenerator.. should do just fine and is easy to maintain.. alternatively she could add another multipurpose room with a alien containment unit to breed bigger species to put them into the generator.. she already has one crabsnake if she can find another egg she can breed them.. one of those is 700 energy units while one nuklear fuel rod is 1000.. crabsquid or ampeel eggs are 770 even.. if you have no other big species in that aquarium you wont run out of them i promise ^^ you just need to take one and feed it into the generator and she could use it to breed fish for food too..

I always wondered as a console player if anyone else had issues with the yeet maneuver on console. I'm no noob and both games the timing on the grab, boost release never timed correctly for me making it not very effective. Always figured PC would have maybe made it easier for some reason

Fun fact about hatching crashfish (exploding fish), you can use the propulsion cannon or the prawn suit arm version to fire them from your inventory as little exploding rockets. Sadly they don't do enough damage to really do anything but I think it's cool nonetheless

Make small bases everywhere, with a scanner. Like in the mushroom forest for easy lithium. Or sandbank for easy metal scrap. Explore and find out which areas have a lot of a particular resource and build a scanner room. Send out the drones in all directions and let the scan begin. Tip: If you deconstruct the scanner room with the cameras detached, when you build it again, it will come with new camerasdrones. Infinite cameras:p

Hey Gem! My favorite playthrough by far! I'd really recommend you try out the Sonar upgrade for the Seamoth (Cyclops as well but that one is power hungry). It really helps you (and us) see where you are going in the dark areas and looks really cool. Some say it breaks immersion but in my opinion it adds to it! Go try it out yourself and see if you'd use it :)

My one soapbox Cyclops tip: Big angry fish don’t like the engine noise, once you turn the engine off they start to settle down. You can upgrade defenses, decoys, etc. but the best defense is just Turn Off That Engine (love the stream! Was so happy to find you playing thru Subnautica!)

I think you might like Raft. You could also play that with GIGS or others. That game also has great story and you can build and decorate the raft you’re surviving on. It starts out pretty difficult, but it’s a good game.

Quick tip for leviathans and noise Leviathans mostly rely on noise of vehicles to catch you, by standing still in the seamoth you have a smaller chance to be spotted by them before you make a run for it. Simular thing applies to the cyclops. By entering the silent running mode and going slow speed you are pretty much undetectable to larger leviathans if you are not right next to them

It used to be a thing where if you had vehicle lights on, it would drain your battery. This is now only the case for the seaglide when you are on dry land. Having lights on *can* attract some predators, but Its always been unclear to me in my own testing of the fishies. Lights on helps us see whats going on too! and so if a fishy attacks you, we get even more excitement.

Definitely don't forget you can use the habitat builder inside the cyclops. A twin bed will fit in the room outside the helm, tons of additional lockers for the storage room, planters for melons so you get food and water on the go, etc.

A lot of people have been saying to get the sonar upgrade for the seamoth lately and while I do think it's a very useful upgrade, I feel like it takes a lot of the ambience and atmosphere away. The moments where you can't see the bottom and don't know how deep it goes, when you hear a loud roar but can't see anything around you, those are the moments that make Subnautica so special and not just another survival game. The sonar upgrade takes all that away. The upgrade is still very useful for navigation and finding where to go, so you should think about what you want more, Easier navigation or creepy, spooky vibes and atmosphere and potential reaper jumpscares.

For more resources: go to the spot where the PDA talked about a migration path of large, bottom-dwelling lifeforms. You'll find lots and lots of limestone and shale outcrops there, plus many other valuables. Also: consider switching which moonpool you use for the prawn vs seamoth? That way you can just walk the prawn suit under the moonpool instead of struggling to jump up into it.

Hey Gem fun fact there used to be a terraformer tool in the game but was eventually removed because it would break the game depending on the area that was terraformed on. Old Subnautica was wild times but it really turned out to be an amazing game!

You may have noticed that scans tend to be the same with in the same biome. Exploring new biomes will generally get you new scans. Also, it is appreciated that you aren't using a map.

You can make the prawn suite more mobile if you find the grapple arm. There are a lot of advanced scannables behind the Aurora, though it is dangerous. I suggest equipping the seamoth with the solar module so you don't have to worry about power drain from defensive modules. Their's also an efficiency module for the prawn suite's thruster (unfortunately, I don't remember where to find it).

I just looked. I've played almost 114 hours of Subnautica 😅 my most recent playthrough was less about the story and more of just crafting. I made multiple bases and sought out all the cuddlefish eggs to put them in my alien containment (alien aquarium). I took my time to really explore and build out multiple bases and pimp out my cyclops. I 100% recommend the wall lockers because theyre perfect for storing each item and the labeling makes it so easy. I've been loving watching this through your eyes as a first time playthrough! ❤

If you do end up building another base. I'd recommend starting with the biggest rooms first and plan your layout that way. Build the base you want and then put bulkheads and reinforcements to fix the flooding afterwards. Also exterior lights really at to the atmosphere of a base at night

The Prawn makes me feel relatively safe. When Rosie gets attacked by a big one, just drill it in the face! As the creature backs off, you can repair Rosie. I hunted and killed a reaper this way once, just to loose my fear a little bit and to see if they could be killed at all. But there is no point in killing them... Love your stream!

Hey Gem -- loving this so much I started my second playthrough after watching your first vid! So a couple of tips: hold down CTRL when you craft something and it keeps the crafting menu open :) -- and second tip: The Oculus fish in the underground glowing purple mushroom area (first degasi site at 200m) is possibly the best source of fuel for the bio reactor! Use a grav ball to catch them easily until you find and build yourself an Alien Containment to breed them!

For the prawn suit, I recommend having a grappling arm to help with speed and traversal, even with the jump boosters the grapple can save so much time. As for the Cyclops, you can add wall lockers on the inside to expand the storage even more. With enough storage you barely have to use the regular base except for making more upgrades.

Like you said the Cyclops is basically a base you can move around, it’s extremely slow though, I don’t recommend using it solely for exploration. I do think the Cyclops and the Prawn Suit could match their color schemes instead of Irene considering the Cyclops is the ideal transportation/storage for the Prawn suit but it could be just me. I named mine Jenny and Penny ^-^ PS: Silent running depletes your power VERY fast, so only use it in dire situations. You should also consider building wall lockers if you plan on mining for materials, you will have lots and lots of extra space!

Since I know Gem reads these I'll say this: Your perimeter defense on Irene is your superpower! I hover over that and if something scares me or grabs me i give it a taste of its own medicine with a lil zap!! So when chat tries to get you to go to scary areas, know that you are relatively safe!

I had taken a few months break from playing subnautica until I started seeing your streams in my recommended. I had cleared the aurora but felt stuck for a while. Now even though I am taking different routes than you,I’ve found the vehicle upgrade module, 2 new entrances to the lost river, some prawn suit arm upgrades and another power source option. The only problem I’ve had is getting the hull pieces for the cyclops, but I didn’t realize that unlike the other parts for the cyclops, they don’t ever spawn close to the aurora, which was where I was looking.

Do alien containment stack and combine in the Large Room too? They were already amazing as 'elevators' when stacked within a tower of multipurpose rooms. You can use them as a renewable source of peepers (or food fish of your choice) to be cured with your renewable salt from your renewable water purifier. Just release two or more and let nature run its course. Sustainability!

Gem, one thing to do with the Cuddlefish, once you have disabled the gun, and you have the neptune rocket ready, return to it, there's another option to interact with it, and this one, it knows you're leaving, you'll like what it will do

I have a good tip. the prawn suit has an upgrade called the grapple arm. They make traversing with the Prawn faster and easier, especially with the jump boost upgrade. You can find these fragments near a wreck that is under the cannon moonpool. be careful. there are a warper down there

Just a little tip before entering deeper waters. Build planters with food inside the cyclops. Maybe build more lockers and stock up on mats for building a small base below with a powersource for powercell/battery charging and maybe a water filtration system. Everything you can think of that might come in handy! Btw, you're doing great. First playthrough and Zero deaths, and coming as far as you have, that's not bad at all :)
